CHAPTER 4: EACH TRUTH AND EACH HAPPINESS (XXIV)
Part 090
Boromir, muttering that it couldn’t be that way and looking behind him, saw Adrian’s face coming in from behind the rebels and shouted.
“That’s ridiculous! He won’t arrive until next week!”
Ban, who was looking at Boromir, who was astonished, and the flag of the Bigor family rapidly approaching, straightened his sword.
“If I do something wrong, I will lose my chance to the Duke. I promised to take your head and offer it to you with my own hands.”
It was Boromir who sent the arrow at Lemina. Van gritted his teeth and rushed at Boromir. Boromir, the commander of the defense forces, was not an easy opponent, but he was not enough to stop Ban, who freely wielded his sword. After clashing swords for a while, Ban lifted the head of Boromir, who was desperately struggling, and Adrian, whose blue cloak had turned black with blood, cleared out the remaining rebels and approached. Cale walked up to meet Adrian, but when he saw Adrian’s eyes, he stopped talking and lowered his head. Adrian looked down at Boromir’s body rolling on the floor, and without saying a word, ran out to join the main body of the capital army guarding the eastern gate. Cale shook his head, blocking Ban who was trying to say something to Adrian.
“When your eyes look like that, it’s better not to touch them.”
Ban nodded his head approvingly. The East Gate, which Remina and Duke Donovan were barely protecting, was on the verge of being destroyed by the rushing rebels. Due to the continued fighting, there were cracks at the base of the thick castle gate, and Dozern was knocking on the door with a sense of desperation. After Remina, who was on top of the castle, and Adrian arrived at the east gate, they exchanged greetings with their eyes, and then Adrian bit the soldier blocking the castle gate. Finally, the east gate of Midok’s outer castle was shattered. The rebels, who were trying to storm into the castle while cheering, were confronted by the Knights of Bigor led by Adrian and the elite cavalry of the capital army. The Knights of Bigor and the cavalry, who did not fall behind in the death march, followed Adrian and flew over the heads of the rebels, and the main body of the capital army poured out from the castle following them. The capital city panicked after the castle gate was smashed. Dozern, who was looking forward to it, was frightened when he saw Adrian running out with red eyes in front of him. Not only Adrian, but also the Knights of Bigor and the cavalry of the capital army were running wild like crazy men, so the rebels had to be pushed back without even being able to enter the castle.
After hearing of Boromir’s death and seeing with his own eyes the rebels turning their backs one by one, Dozern bit his tongue and ordered a retreat. And he had to be chased back to the Jezero Plain to avoid Adrian, who was clinging to him like an evil spirit. Adrian, who confirmed that the rebels were leaving the outskirts of Midok and heading toward the Jezero Plain, turned his horse toward Midok. Adrian, who flew back to the outer castle and went to see Lemina with his eyes still red. It was a decision I finally made after shaking off the last bit of reason I had left. Remina, who guessed Adrian’s condition as soon as they saw each other, let Adrian go after hearing a short report.
“I was skeptical when the message arrived, but you timed it like a ghost. Troubleshooting Center, Duke. You can leave this to me and go wherever you want. We’ll see you again tomorrow morning.”
Adrian finally came out with his head down and got back on his horse. Immediately he ran into the castle and searched for Damian. Then he heard the news from the outer city and ran into Hegel, who was coming to the outer city with the militia. Hegel approached with a welcoming smile, but was stopped by Adrian’s ferocious force. Adrian asked bluntly.
“She is?”
“The lady is giving rations to refugees at Yohara Park…”
Before he could finish his words, his black horse rushed away like the wind.
“…You must be doing it. I heard Dozern was chased away, why are his eyes like that?”
Ethan, who had become a panda with red fur, approached Hegel, who was confused.
“It’ll be okay when I meet you.”
“Ethan! Ugh, why is your face like this?”
“I ran from the Great Territory to Midok in four days. It was a full day of fighting as soon as I arrived, and I knew that our lord was not an ordinary person, but this is serious.”
“What? You came here after four days?”
“Don’t say anything. The poop was all over the place. Go help me clean up after myself. We’re going to pass out like this.”
When all of the Knights of Bigor, the protagonists of the victory, headed towards the duke’s residence like defeated soldiers, and the cavalry that followed them in a similar fashion fell into the military parade ground, Adrian arrived at Johara Park. He ran around on horseback, covered in blood, and was frantically searching for Damian, terrorizing all the inhabitants of the inner city where he encountered Adrian.
* * *
It has been five days since Midoc was blockaded. The time to worry about food to feed 100,000 refugees and 20,000 soldiers was approaching. The princess said that the fate of the war would be decided within this week, but if food were to run out immediately, there would be no way to prevent the agitation of the already anxious refugees. Still, the situation was not too bad as several noble families were providing generous support. The Duke of Galleon only gave money in a superficial manner, but other noble families came to the scene and helped without hesitation. Eilene helped prepare food at Yohara Park again today. She was very grateful, but she was worried that her friend, who had just experienced something big, might hurt her body, so she kept checking her face. Eilene must have sensed her gaze and scolded her with a smile.
“I’m not going to faint. Do you know if your face is more serious? I think you’re the one who should go in and rest, not me, right?”
“It’s okay. I’m healthy. Don’t overexert yourself and rest if you’re even a little tired, Eile, okay?”
“It’s okay. It’s okay. You must be the busiest person in Midoc right now, right? I’ll take care of this, so you can get some rest.”
“No, it’s almost evening, so when we’re ready, we should go out to the outer castle.”
“That dangerous Del keeps going. Now… go!!”
She stopped talking when Eilene collapsed and screamed, looking as if she had seen a ghost. The other ladies on her side screamed at her with similar expressions. She was so startled that Damian almost screamed when she turned around. A huge black shadow was walking towards me, making me wonder if it would look like the god of death from legend. It took a while to recognize that the person who was completely black from head to toe was Adrian and not the Reaper. His red eyes were trembling anxiously. When she ran and got closer, she saw that it wasn’t something black covered, but blood. In addition to the overwhelming smell of blood, Adrian’s entire body was covered in dried blood, so he couldn’t hold back his screams this time.
“Adrian! Oh my god, are you hurt? Is this blood? Are you hurt?”
As she screamed, the hand reaching out to me stopped in mid-air. Adrian looked down at his hands and made a puzzled face, as if he had only realized that he was covered in blood. But even that face is obscured by blood so she couldn’t see it well. She reached out to at least wipe his face, but Adrian took steps and avoided her hand.
“Adrian?”
“Damian. I… I’m…”
It seemed like he was trying to say something, but his throat was completely locked and a voice that was very different from his usual voice came out. Perhaps surprised by his own voice, he took another step back, this time grabbing his neck. His tears came to his eyes. Why is it like that? I went there wearing semi-polished silver armor, but it looks like that. Why did my white and pretty Adrian end up like that? How much trouble did he have to go through? She ran to Adrian, who was retreating behind him, and hugged his chest. Let alone any armor, there was only a shirt under the coat, and even that was soaked with blood and sweat.
Adrian grabbed her arm and tried to pull her away, but she clung to him with all her strength.
“Damian. Something bad is happening. Get off.”
Even though she cleared her throat for a while, her voice still cracked.
“You’re not hurt anywhere, are you? Right? Look at your face. Adrian, are you okay?”
When she hold his face and look him in the eyes, his bright red eyes brighten. There was moisture in her eyes.
“It’s okay, Damien. I’m not hurt at all.”
“Really? I’m glad. I’m so glad, Adrian.”
When the water gathered and turned into water droplets, Adrian hugged her, rubbing his forehead against her shoulder. With a suppressed voice he said.
“I’m glad you’re safe.”
She stroked his wet hair. Tears flowed from her eyes on Adrian’s behalf. Adrian, who had buried his face on her shoulder and was catching his breath for a moment, quickly composed himself and raised his head. He reached out his hand to wipe away her tears, then he lowered his hand when he saw that there was a bloody mess on his hand. She left Jenny and Franz to do the rest, and rode back to the mansion with Adrian. She had Millie and Louise take Adrian’s bath and prepare dinner. While Adrian went in to wash, she also washed and changed clothes. After washing up, Adrian came straight to her room. He blinked his eyes tiredly and hugged her quietly.
“Dinner is ready. Are you hungry?”
“If it’s okay Damien, I’d like to sleep for two hours.”
“Okay. Just sleep a little bit and then wake up and eat.”
She nodded in his arms, and Adrian took her hand and led her to the bed. Then he lay down on the bed and held out his hand to her.
“Please hold my hand.”
Adrian, who had regained his pale face and original eye color, smiled and nodded as he spoke in a puzzled manner. Adrian also smiled, folding the corners of his eyes. He lay on her bed, holding her hand tightly, blinking and looking at her, and quickly fell asleep. He was so tired that even if she called him, he wouldn’t wake up. She wanted to sleep comfortably and move away, but he wouldn’t let go of her hand, so she lay down next to him. It was only about 15 days away, but his face was hurt beyond words. Her cheeks were pale and her lips were chapped. When she first saw it in the park, it was so vicious that even she was scared. She couldn’t even imagine how long he suffered.
She wrapped her arms around Adrian’s back, who was sleeping motionlessly, and patted his back, and soon she fell asleep. When she opened her eyes after sleeping for a while, it was already past midnight. She slept for over four hours. Adrian, who had said he would only sleep for two hours, was still fast asleep, holding her hand. Not knowing whether to let him sleep like this or wake him up for dinner, she carefully got up. She moved very gently and removed his hand, then quietly closed the door and came out.
When she came down to the first floor, Ethan, who was talking about something with Jenny, greeted her. For the first time after meeting Ethan, she was surprised to see that Ethan looked 36 years old. The area under his eyes was black and dead, as if he had been hit.
“Are you okay Ethan? I think you need to get some more rest.”
“Yes, ma’am. It’s okay. I heard she’s been very busy, too. Has she been okay?”
“I was in a safe place. Well, Ethan, did Adrian eat lunch?”
Ethan avoided my question by scratching the tip of his chin.
“Uh…Have we had a good meal recently…?”
She sighed and asked Jenny.
“It’s late, but please prepare dinner, Jenny.”
She turned to go up to the second floor to wake Adrian up, but as he was rushing out, he saw her at the bottom of the stairs and stopped. She was so surprised that she walked up the stairs and faced him. Adrian said, hugging her waist and rubbing her forehead against his shoulder.
“I thought you were somewhere.”
“Where am I going? Did you sleep well?”
“Yes, Damian.”
Adrian gently raised his head at her touch and smiled, folding the corners of his eyes. Although he had lost weight and had a sharper face, his smiling face was the same as the one she knew. She guessed he came out looking for her as soon as he woke up. His hair on one side was down, and his feet were bare, not even wearing slippers. She returned to Adrian’s room, holding his hand. She needed to put on slippers, she needed to straighten her hair, and she needed to have a cup of tea before eating, but this person wouldn’t let go of her hand. He held one of her hands tightly and followed her around with a face like a puppy getting caught in the rain.
