CHAPTER 3: YOU ARE QUALIFIED TO BE THERE (XX)

Part 059

Dozern, who had met Marquis Luther over the weekend, was in a very good mood. He said that the work he had worked hard on for nearly a year had been accomplished. Now, he could carry out his work on this side whenever he wanted. It should have been like this a long time ago. He wasted too much time on something like the Queen’s Star, from which he didn’t know where it came from. Dozern clicked his tongue as he glanced at Eilene, who was sitting across from him with a blank face. Still, the face was smooth, but why did it look like that as it went on? It’s been a long time since they’ve had lunch together, but it seemed like he was just throwing away his appetite. Whatever she was, she was a woman with a child of her own. Her fate was unknown, and since she was in a position to go with him, he felt a little forgiving.

“Isn’t the meal to your liking?”

When Docern spoke to her, Eilene raised her head and faced him. He wondered if it was only her face that was pale, but Dozern was a little taken aback by the blue eyes. She even got pregnant, was he being too nonchalant? Now that the cooperation of the Donovan has become meaningless, there was no need to put more pressure on her.

Eilene called Dozern, who was thinking of buying some jewels and holding her.

“Excuse me.”

“Tell me, ma’am.”

“Are you sure you want to be the king?”

What kind of bottomless nonsense was this all of a sudden? Dozern, who was in a bad mood, put down the tableware with a noise. The sound of the silverware hitting the porcelain plate was quite loud, but Eilene didn’t blink.

“What are you talking about all of a sudden? Didn’t you wish fervently too? You said that she wanted to be queen, and that you should?”

“I didn’t intend to kill anyone else and get there.”

“Stop that immature talk. Where can you get something for nothing?”

Dozern, who raised his voice, raised his glass with a rough movement and drank the wine. Staring at Dozern without blinking, Eilene continued her unfinished thoughts.

“All I need is you. I won’t ask for anything like to be the queen anymore. Can’t I just live like this without thinking about fear?”

“Foolish!”

Dozern threw the wine glass he was holding. Eilene’s shoulders trembled as she was holding on to her heart at the sharp sound of falling to the floor and breaking into pieces.

“It doesn’t matter what you want to be! Just let that dumbass take my place? I really won’t let you bring up that nonsense one more time!”

“But!”

Eilene’s shrill voice catches Dozern, who stops eating and jumps up. When Eilene, who had never raised her voice before him, came out like this, Dozern looked puzzled. Eilene continued, looking straight up at Dozern, who stood up and looked down at him, with his hard eyes.

“How many people must die for you to become king? Aren’t my family included among them?”

He had already heard a lot of scary stories. Duke Bigor, whom they directly mentioned by name, was Damian’s lover. And Duke Nodovan, who was said to have failed in persuasion, was Eilene’s father. Looking at Dozern who couldn’t answer with a distorted face, Eilene bit her lower lip. As long as he could become king, he would have liked everything else, but he couldn’t bear to tell her that he intended to get rid of the father of a woman with children of his own. He bit his lower lip and turned away from Eilene, who was bleeding, and Dozern walked out.

When she was suddenly drawn to this world and opened her eyes for the first time, she heard Duke Nodovan’s screams before she could even come to her senses. Her father looked down disapprovingly at her as she wrapped her head around her terrible headache, then left. After a long headache, she recovered all the memories of Eilene from before, but she couldn’t remember anything like a friendly figure. A mother who passed away a long time ago, a half-brother and their mother who are only a few months apart. A cold father who has not interacted with Eilene in the past who did not recognize his stepmother. Why was the new family like this? Eilene closed her heart before he could adjust to the situation.

Before coming to this world, her father also made a loud noise like that all the time. Outside, he pretended to be a hot-tempered boss and a big-hearted head of household, but inside the house, he was a tyrant who screamed at things he didn’t like. It’s just that he didn’t stab his hand, but while living with her father, who was a cheerleader who sometimes threw things at her, Si-yeon devoted all her energy to not causing trouble. Even Si-yeon’s mother, who thoroughly lived as the husband and wife in the show window, was not interested in her. Did she think of her as an accessory to decorate herself? She only interferes with how others see her, and she never asks what she thinks. In her memory, Eilene always hated the duchess for taking her mother’s place, and her half-brothers for threatening her place. She despised Duke Nodovan for doing irresponsible things over her mother. Her 17-year relationship with her family, which she had created, was ruined beyond measure by her sudden outburst of demonstration. No, the truth was, she didn’t dare to try anything. It seemed a lot easier for her to get out of there with another relationship than to mend a relationship that was already broken. So, when Dozern held out his hand, she believed him to be her saving hand. She was done, she believed, all she needed to be happy now. She had no doubts or thoughts, she just believed.

She believed and believed, and this was the result.

Her hands clasped under the table trembled. Her fingertips were too cold. When she came to her senses, she was trapped in the king’s womb and could not write a single letter of her own. She thought she might be in danger and she should tell her father, but she had no way of contacting him. Wherever she went, she was accompanied by a lady-in-waiting who served as a watchdog, and the only thing she could go outside was for a short walk after lunch. Whatever she should do, at the end of her frustrated mind, there was always one person that came to mind. Did she say that she enters the palace on Mondays and Thursdays? She said that every day the first princess’s maid of honor waited in her gazebo. Eilene checked again the thin cord she had tied around her left wrist. Neither paper nor pen was given to her, so all Eilene had was her needle and thread, and her maid was always watching what she was embroidering.

Eilene embroidered these little violets in a mess on her thin silk cord, and inscribed a letter at the end. In this world, she wrote her message in characters nobody but her and her Damian could understand, and tied it around her wrist. She wore a dress with full sleeves to arouse suspicion. Checking her well-tied thong, Ailene stood up and stepped out of the royal womb. Since Eilene took a walk at the same time every day, one of her ladies-in-waiting followed without a shadow of a doubt. Moving her steps was getting harder day by day. She should eat well even for the sake of her child, but the food never went down her throat. She swayed and struggled, fearing that even her teeth wouldn’t let her go, so she clenched her teeth and walked upright.

The last time she saw Damian, a woman dressed as her maid was sitting in it.

“I’ll have to sit down.”

She spoke as if she were listening to her lady-in-waiting who followed her and moved her steps to her pavilion. The lady-in-waiting who was sitting in her pavilion jumped up and greeted her.

“I’m just here to rest. It’ll happen soon, so just stay.”

The lady-in-waiting who appeared as her king sat at a distance from her, watching her maid-in-waiting following Eilene and her maid’s palace. Eilene, who had been looking down at her flower garden for a moment, unobtrusively untied the sash on her wrist, placed it under her hip, and gestured to her maid who had followed her.

“How tired you are today. Can you help me?”

As Eilene walked away from her pavilion, leaning on her so that the maid would not notice her ornament string left behind, the maid of the princess’s palace, who had been watching her, grabbed her ornament string and held her off.

* * *

In the commandant’s office, Adrian was sitting with a serious face and tapping the desk with his right index finger. Ethan, who was facing Adrian across the desk, had a serious face, unlike usual, without any mischief.

“George isn’t coming back”

“Yes, my lord, it’s already been a week since the date he should have returned.”

“He was supposed to check the Taln military camp and return via the Romanovs, but he didn’t come back…”

“The additional children sent have lost contact since yesterday.”

“I retrieved the message sent from the border returning from looking back at Taln. After saying that he would move to the Romanov side, there was no contact. I can’t confirm whether the point that disappeared is Taln or the Romanov.”

Romanov, a military base in the border area where the Duchy of Tallen, Duchy of Cologne, and Kingdom of Laurentine meet in the northwest of Laurentian, is the most important strategic point among the many military towns of Laurentian. It was also the city where the headquarters of the Defense Forces existed and where the largest number of the Defense Forces were stationed. With the Romanovs at the center, the north was the Principality of Cologne, and the west was the Principality of Taln, so tributaries dispatched from Laurentian used to cross the border with the Romanovs as their starting point. It was already two weeks ago that George was dispatched to find out about the military movements of the Principality of Taln, since it was suspected that the 2nd Prince’s side had concluded a secret military pact with the Principality of Taln.

It was also uneasy that George, who had never failed in his mission because there was no one to follow him in infiltration and hiding, was out of contact, but it was a serious problem that even the additional personnel sent were out of contact.

“He used to cross the border like his own house. It’s unlikely that he was detained in Taln. Send one more person to Romanov. New recruits whose faces are unknown. If we don’t hear from you by next week, I’ll have to go see it myself.”

“Do you think the National Guard will be keeping George tied up?”

“If the rear guard really wants to join hands with Taln and go to war, you should also check the National Guard’s moves. In the worst case, it may not open the way but join them.”

Adrian assumed the worst possible move, recalling Boromir Luther, the son of Marquis Luther. It has been four years since he served as the commander of the National Guard. It is unlikely that the entire National Guard will point their swords at Lauren just because one commander gives an insane order. When Adrian was in the National Guard, he was not welcomed anywhere by Boromir’s retaliatory greetings and wandered around, but regardless of the commanders’ fights for position, each and every soldier with good discipline was the pride of Lauren.

“No matter how crazy Boromir’s children are, would the National Guard join the rebellion? There were many commanders who were sane even though they were pushed out by Luther’s faction.”

“It’s the worst situation and it’s a slim possibility. But it’s our job to prepare for it. To start by dispatching additional personnel, grasping the situation and securing geography is the priority.”

“Yes, lord.”

Ethan left his office with his red hair flowing. Things were getting worse. One by one the shadows of the war with the Duchy of Taln, which was thought to be Homer’s old heart, were growing thicker. His father tried to take over the capital and attract foreign powers, but this time it was the National Guard. What the hell is the throne for, killing one’s own flesh and blood, and even trying to get the country by throwing it into a war? The person who had a vain dream four years ago is already dead, but this time it is the second prince again. If they could find evidence of the information Damian and Homer obtained over the weekend, they would be able to put together a pick-up. The place where the funds flowed was probably Taln, and if this was revealed, the second prince could be punished before four months.

Adrian started banging on the desk again.

It reminded him of the little face that had been flipping through papers late at night, saying that it wanted to prevent anything from leading to a war. He wanted to help her do whatever she wanted to do, but he was concerned all the time that Damian, who had a hard time with education alone, would get caught up in this potentially dangerous job. His heart aches as he recalled the face of worrying about a close friend whose life is now really in danger, but there was no way to get the old lady out. Adrian let out a deep sigh and stood up. It was time for Damian to leave the palace after going to Princess Remina’s palace. It was Monday, the 36th of autumn, when the sky was so clear.
