Chapter 107.

Although there were military police officers following her, she had a mountain of things she wanted to say. She wanted to ask why he had done such a reckless thing.

“Your Excellency, are you okay?”

As Sophia stood quietly, those who followed her in asked about Killian.

“Don’t worry. I’m fine.”

Killian calmed down the military police officers, causing a commotion. However, his gaze was still directed at Sophia.

“Don’t worry. I’m okay.”

Those words were meant for Sophia.

“To think Your Excellency gave orders to Sir Ian…”

“Hush!”

When someone tried to say something about today’s match, another person silenced him with a tap on the shoulder.

Though he could understand their disappointment and anger, it wasn’t the time to express it in front of Killian, who had just received treatment for his wounds.

Killian surveyed the officers.

Fortunately, it seemed that no one had noticed the fact that he had deliberately gotten injured.

‘Skilled individuals have been sent elsewhere in advance…’

As the commander, he precisely understood the abilities of the military police officers. Therefore, he had relocated those skilled enough to see through his plans.

The highly skilled deputy commander, Nicholas, was still undergoing treatment.

In addition, other highly skilled members of the military police were deployed to guard the vicinity of the Imperial Capital and the arena in preparation for any unexpected situations related to the appearance of the Black Moon.

Thanks to this, at least within the military police, his plans had not been exposed.

However, Killian felt sorry for the military police officers who had believed in him.

Surely, there were high expectations for today’s match.

No, do you really need to apologize? Among them, who knows who is loyal to the Empress.

Killian swallowed bitter saliva.

“Uh, sorry, but could you give us some space?”

Killian asked the military police officers.

Realising that his gaze was directed at Sophia, the officers belatedly understood his intention and vacated the space.

As the officers rushed out, Sophia was left standing alone in the room.

Even though the surroundings became silent, Sophia remained standing there in silence, only staring at Killian lying on the bed.

Or was she glaring?

“This is why I told you not to come.”

Killian spoke as if sitting on a bed of thorns.

Even if he tried to explain, there was nothing to say.

It was just a few days ago when he warned Sophia to be careful about the demonic beast incident. (T/L: Ohky, to clear up the confusion, magic/demon beasts are the same. So from now on, I will use demonic beasts.

It was only natural for Sophia to be angry.

Back then, Sophia had stared at Killian for a long time, and now she spoke with a choked voice.

“…In times like this, I wish I had some special ability.”

Sophia looked at Killian, covered in bandages.

Even in places where the bandages weren’t wrapped, scars that seemed to have been injured before were visible.

“Whether it’s a healing ability, magical power, a hidden power inherited from the family… , even a game system, or something like that.”

Whenever Killian got hurt, Sophia resented her own incompetence.

In other novels, protagonists receive divine choices, awaken special family abilities, or even accumulate enormous wealth that even male protagonists can envy. But Sophia was just an ordinary extra from the attic.

Feeling too ordinary after possessing a host. Feeling too incapable to become the protagonist of the story.

Despite her efforts to act boldly and bravely, at such crucial moments, she could do nothing but watch and feel frustrated with herself.

But Killian didn’t understand the irrelevant words that came out of her mouth and just laughed.

To his ears, it must have sounded absurd and childlike, filled with unreasonable and childish imagination.

Sophia lowered her head in front of his laughter.

Then Killian called her name.

“Sophia.”

A voice so low and calm that it was hard to believe it came from an injured person.

Even so, when Sophia didn’t raise her head, he called her again, this time more affectionately.

“Sophie.”

When Sophia finally looked up, Killian’s pupils stared at her.

He made a gentle gesture, as if inviting her to come closer.

As Sophia approached slowly, Killian reached out and gently pulled her hand.

Despite being injured, Sophia couldn’t resist the strength of his pull and had no choice but to sit next to him.

As she sat next to the bed, Killian gazed at her with intense eyes.

“I’ve said it before, but you are special.”

At his words, Sophia bit her lip.

“That doesn’t make me feel any better.”

Killian, playing with her hand, continued to gaze at her closely.

“So, what should I do to make you feel better?”

“I’m not angry. Just… saddened.”

Then Killian smiled lightly again, as if trying to alleviate her sadness.

“If you’re not angry, how about taking a look at the injured part here? It’s been bothering me since the blow from Ian.”

Killian pointed to the part of his cheek that Ian had hit.

At his mention of discomfort, Sophia’s eyes, which had been somewhat gloomy until now, widened.

“Wh-where?”

Just as she tilted her head to examine his injuries, a soft touch touched her lips.

Surprised, Sophia froze, and Killian’s lips curled up again.

“It’s better now.”

Killian, who withdrew his lips, smiled playfully.

“It seems clear that my fiancée has healing abilities or some other special ability.”

“Your Excellency…!”

As Sophia’s face turned bright red, Killian gently stroked her hair.

“You really don’t have to worry. Even if you look at me like this, I’m not weak enough to be easily defeated by Ian. Will you trust me?”

Killian’s gaze was so intense and deep that Sophia could only nod her head. (T/L: I need more of their moments! Nooooo.)

* * *

That night, the lights at Count Fraus’s mansion did not go out until late.

It was the day when Ian defeated Killian and became unquestionably the Empire’s top warrior, so the count couple couldn’t just let it pass quietly.

Unable to invite guests due to the black moon, they gathered as a family and enjoyed a grand dinner.

“Ian! Oh, Ian! My lovely son!”

“Pfft, you will become the most esteemed knight among us, Fraus!”

Perhaps because there was no need to entertain guests, the count couple, who had been drinking excessively since an early hour, seemed already intoxicated, and their pronunciation was slurred.

Ian looked at them with a disdainful eye.

It wasn’t a day to celebrate. It was not a victory, but a defeat.

He wanted to return the golden laurel he received today to the imperial family immediately.

The napkin he had placed on his knee was crumpled at his fingertips.

‘What’s even more annoying is…’

He still looked at the empty seat opposite him.

Sophia was not present at the family dinner celebrating the family’s success in the competition.

Ian felt irritated thinking about how she had run to Killian right after the match was over.

‘Anyone would think they’re already a married couple.’ (T/L: They are; you shut up!)

Even though they were only engaged…

Ian bit his fork.

At that moment, Rubisella, who had drunk too much, staggered and leaned on the table.

“Madam!”

“It seems I’ve had too much. I should go now…”

She spoke with a tired voice, possibly due to the effects of alcohol.

The maids supported Rubisella and led her upstairs to her room.

With the servants leaving as well, only Ian and the count remained in the spacious dining room.

Ian felt that he no longer needed to stay in his seat.

“Well, I should be going…”

“No, it’s not even nine yet. Where are you going!”

Ian tried to get up, but the count grabbed him. Then, he personally poured wine into Ian’s glass.

“Our son. My proud son! Accept the congratulatory drink from your father.”

How many congratulations drinks were there already? Perhaps the count had forgotten.

Ian sighed with annoyance as he looked at the table, where the food had almost not been touched.

Even though he had eaten enough to satisfy his hunger, there were still untouched dishes.

The amount of food on the table was excessive for three people.

Beyond the rich dishes, his gaze lingered on the empty seat opposite.

‘Sophia… have you eaten?’

Ian checked the time.

Normally, the maids would have taken care of everything, but today, especially after the confrontation with Killian, Sophia’s absence at the dinner table bothered him.

“Father, about Sophia…”

Thinking that it might be okay now that Mother had gone upstairs, Ian tried to bring up the subject, but the Count shook his head.

“What is that wench doing at the family dinner table!”

The Count dismissed the idea with a harsh wave of his hand.

Ian rolled his eyes.

He was well aware that Mother Rubisella discriminated against and disliked Sophia. However, it was rare for such overt hatred towards Sophia to come directly from his father’s mouth.

Count Fraus had long ignored and neglected Sophia, as if leaving her to her own devices. Even when Rubisella abused his former wife’s daughter, he stood by and watched.

At times, Ian found his father’s indifference peculiar.

He had expected his father to cherish and protect Sophia, to take her side.

However, the Count’s indifference and neglect had become such a natural part of daily life that no one found it strange anymore.

But now Ian was genuinely curious.

He understood a bit about why Rubisella abused Sophia, but he couldn’t fathom the reason behind his father’s neglect of her.

Ian assumed it was because his father didn’t like his previous wife’s daughter and loved Rubisella too much to intervene. That was the only explanation he could come up with.

“When was she ever allowed to sit here?”

“But Sophia is family, isn’t she?”

“Family?”

One of the Count’s eyebrows twitched upward.

(T/L: Now again what!!!! This story always amazes me.)

    Thank you so much. 💝
But why did it feels like Sophia could be the emperor’s daughter 😕

    1. Elly Anjos says:
