Episode 8
Third Person POV
She walked slowly toward him without stopping or lowering her head.
He watched her every time she moved. She didn’t know why it had been so hard to do something so simple in the past.
She stood by the window and reached out her hand to him.
She put her hand in front of his clear, bright blue eyes, which were lit up by the sun.
He spent a long time looking at her hand.
He was looking at her hand, but his eyes slowly moved up to meet hers.
This is a bit dangerous.
She could see clear eyes that looked like lakes through the golden hair that was all over the place.
He was sick, so his face was pale, but it was still pretty in its own way. So, she decided again what to do.
Whenever she feels the urge to kill him, she’s just gonna look at his face and her anger would melt away like snow.
“Amoide.”
She called his name again. She had been calling out that name since she walked into the room.
She kept calling out his name, like you would call a cat or dog.
He looked at her for a long time. She was shocked that the fact that he wasn’t avoiding her made her feel better. So she called him again.
“Amoide.”
She saw a tiny movement in the muscles near his mouth.
His eyes, which were only slightly open, had a strange look.
‘Oh, this is kind of neat.’
She smiled at herself. When she called his name, she liked how strange he looked.
It was like watching a beautiful, spoiled cat lie in the sun, flick its ears, and act like it didn’t hear its owner calling.
It almost seemed like a spell.
She thought that calling him by his name in a rude way would make him mad, but it didn’t.
“Ahem.”
She gave a head shake.
“How are you feeling?”
“You can see it.”
He didn’t say much. He said it in a way that made it sound like she didn’t need to ask, since he was already sitting up.
“You look good. I’m glad. What would happen if you couldn’t get out of bed? That scared me.”
She looked him straight in the eyes and gave him a real smile. On the other hand, between his eyebrows, there was a small gap.
Selene’s POV
“Is my smile so bad that you can’t stand to see it?”
I planned to ask, but didn’t. The main point was the last thing I said.
“Amoide, do you want to go for a walk with me?”
“…”
When he heard what I said, his face changed a lot, as if he had just seen a weird bug.
Have I been too insistent?
I didn’t hear what was being said because I was so focused on reaching my goal.
He started talking right when I was about to speak again.
“Have you completely lost your mind?”
His face looked all messed up.
“No, I haven’t.”
As a response, I smiled. I was sure I wouldn’t be surprised or hurt if he said something mean.
Courage to be hated, courage to be hated.
I told myself this about ten times before I continued.
“Since the weather is nice, I thought we could go for a walk together.”
He had a moment when he looked a little different and moved his mouth as if he wanted to say something.
“… this.”
“Yes?”
I turned my head toward him to try to hear what he was saying, but I could barely make it out.
“Amoide, what did you say?”
When I asked him a question, he answered in a whisper with lips that were perfectly made.
“What kind of plan is this…”
When I heard his soft, lingering voice, I laughed.
At this point, I’m used to it.
“All I want to do is take a walk with you. We are a married couple, after all.”
“…Married?”
When I told him what he had heard, he slightly opened his eyes. Again, that phrase came up.
“Did you just say that we are married?”
“Well, we are. We’re not siblings, are we?”
When Amoide heard my answer, he didn’t know what to say.
“Oh no, don’t you feel well?”
I asked him with a smile as I watched his face.
“…No, never mind.”
By putting out his hand, he moved away from me.
“Are you sure you’re alright?”
“Yes, so go away.”
“Then let’s go for a walk together.”
I kept getting in his way.
“No.”
As a strong and clear answer, I dropped my hand.
“Alright, no problem.”
From the start, I never thought it would be easy.
So, it’s alright. I’m really good.
I also won’t try just once.
“Tell me what’s going on here.”
“If I had to say, it’s a plan to make you healthy.”
“Huh?”
The way his eyebrows moved told me.
Even though I didn’t realize it, my body jerked, but I forced a calm smile on my face.
“It means I’m in charge of your body now.”
“In charge of my body?”
“Your mother just gave me permission to be in charge, that’s why I’m here.”
“What do you mean?”
Now that we had talked about how we felt, it was time to talk about what we thought.
“Amoide, to stay healthy, you need to get a certain amount of sun every day.”
“…,” he said, with me pointing to the window where light was coming in. I quickly added more.
“Take in some fresh air, too. Not only on this hard floor, but also on the ground and smelling the flowers.”
I also often say this to the missus that I took care of back then, the days where she would just wait for her death.
“There is value in everything. When you die, you won’t be able to….”
When I saw him looking at me, I quickly changed what I was going to say.
“It rained all night long. The smell of the yard’s dirt is so nice. The phytoncides the trees gave off…”
For a moment, I looked at Amoide, who was giving me a cold look.
“Well, those are all healthy things to do. Don’t just stay here, right?”
Amoide looked like he didn’t understand what I was saying, so he got up from the window seat.
I looked up at him, but when he stood up, I felt like I was shrinking. And the room quickly got dark.
When did it get dark? “…” The sun was still shining. All the light couldn’t get in because of his big shoulders and back.
Even more so in the light, his form stood out.
Just by looking at him, I knew he was big, but when I saw him this way, I saw just how big he was. Big enough to block all the light that comes in through the window.
I couldn’t see his face very well because the light was coming from behind him. But I could tell he was really looking at me.
“It looks like you were in a hurry.”
Even though he spoke softly, his voice cut through the air.
“Huh?”
After he said something out of the blue, I didn’t know what to say to him.
Not a lot of time? What gives? I felt like what was being said didn’t make sense.
Before I could say that we must have misread each other, his voice started pouring out like rain.
“Why does this suddenly make no sense? When have we ever been on good terms, walking arm in arm?”
He had a loud voice like a wild animal.
Amoide gave me a look that told me he didn’t like anyone or anything.
“I just…”
I wanted to say something, but my mood changed so quickly that I couldn’t.
“It will help you.”
“To stay healthy?”
I just barely nodded my head a few times when he asked me.
“Are you changing your tactics now?”
He used his mouth to make a funny sound.
“What do you mean?”
I asked, not understanding his words.
“Having kids. I told you not to be greedy. I told you also that I won’t be telling my mother that we don’t share the same bed.”
“…” You are correct. At least everyone should know that we had to spend some hot nights together.
People could kick me out of the house if they found out that our relationship was the same after I got married as it was before. And if that happened, none of the money would come in.
“Is that it?” He took one more step towards me, “You still think we should have a child?” It was scary enough that he was so big, but as he got closer, I felt like I was in real danger.
“I-I…”
No one was ready for the way things were going.
Before I could even figure out what was going on, I moved away from him.
Thunk.
It hurt when my back hit the wall. He pushed me all the way back to this place.
Behind me was a wall, and in front of me was a guy with scary eyes.
“That… my bad. Next time…”
I turned my body to try to get away. But at that time, he grabbed me again with his strong hand.
Between him and the wall, I was stuck to the wall like a stuffed animal, and I could only look up at him.
I couldn’t move, even though it didn’t look like he was holding on that tightly.
‘Is he really sick?’
I wondered if he was really that weak by the way he held on to me.
What was making him so mad?
I was scared in an instant, like a mouse before a cat.
He had looked at me before with a frightening expression, but this was the first time I had seen him so angry.
Why?
I just asked him for a walk.
I couldn’t figure him out.
“Listen, Amoide. I just…”
“What did you and my mom are scheming?”
“Scheme?”
“Is that why I lost consciousness yesterday?”
What is he getting at?
“Why? Do you think I don’t have much time left and that we should have a baby right away?”
“N-no…”
I shook my head quickly. But it looked like he was no longer listening.
“No, not that…”
It was when I put my hand up to stop him.
“Ouch.”
I felt a sharp pain and yelled out in pain. At that time, Amoide loosened his grip on me.
