She Was Sent by God

SWSBG Chapter 30

After pulling the sword from his neck, Laslo split the chest of the nearest man in half.

Blood splashed in all directions.

The person who followed immediately swung a sword at Laslo.

Without batting an eye, Laslo cut off his right arm that was holding the sword.

“Argh!”

The scream was piercing. Laslo shook off the blood from his sword at once and cut the man’s throat.

Blood gushed out of the man’s half-cut throat. His face was drenched in blood, some of it entering his mouth.

Laslo spat blood-mixed saliva on the floor with a cold face.

Nine died in a blink of an eye.

The assassins who saw it faltered and feared to attack Laslo.

“Wow. Spare one of the three.”

At his words, the three glanced at each other before rushing towards him simultaneously.

Mechanically, Laslo slit one man’s throat and cut another’s leg.

The remaining one staggered and then turned, leaping out the window.

“Ack!”

There is nothing easier than facing an enemy’s back.

Laslo threw the dagger from his waist. The blade pierced through the back and protruded out of the abdomen.

“My lord.”

Ralph pulled out the dagger lodged in the assassin’s back and handed it to Laslo. The other held out a handkerchief.

Laslo roughly wiped the blood off his face and hands with it.

“Put the one with the severed leg in restraints and keep him in prison. I’ll interrogate him myself.”

“Yes.”

It took less than half an hour to kill or decapitate the twelve men.

Laslo put the sword in its sheath and walked to the bed.

Agnes was hunched over, clutching her knees tightly with both hands.

He wrapped her securely in the nearby blanket.

“Gasp! Wh-who.”

“It’s me. Princess.”

Agnes finally raised her head to look at Laslo. Her tense body relaxed slightly.

“Duke. B, blood…….”

“Don’t worry, it’s not my blood.”

He said calmly.

Without warning, he slipped his arms behind her neck and knees, lifting Agnes up in one swift motion.

“Things are a mess here, rest in my bedroom.”

Agnes nodded meekly and buried her face in his chest. When his warmth reached her, her trembling body calmed down little by little.

Due to the disturbance, the mansion had been lit brightly.

The servants of the mansion nervously scanned the corridors with tense eyes.

“Open it.”

A servant, who was in front of Laslo’s bedroom, opened the door without question.

He carefully laid Agnes down on the bed.

“Do you want me to call a maid?”

Agnes grabbed the hem of his clothes tightly instead of answering. There was still a sense of unease in her eyes.

“Just until dawn…”

It was a small voice, but it was enough to understand what she meant.

Laslo took off his blood-soaked top and lay at an angle next to her silently.

Agnes nestled into his arms. He gently stroked her back, offering more comfort than words could convey.

The rough breathing and frantic heartbeat gradually calmed as time passed.

She lifted her head, then suddenly lifted the hem of her sleeve and brought it to his face.

“You got blood on you.”

“Hmm.”

Agnes wiped the blood off his face quite diligently.

“Is it Sebastian?”

“We’ll find out more after interrogating the assassin……. But that’s a high possibility.”

“I see…”

Agnes blinked slowly.

In fact, it was so obvious that she didn’t need to ponder about who it was.

There is only one person in this country who wants her to die.

“It’s okay.”

Laslo hugged her body tighter than before. Her petite frame fit snugly in his embrace.

So small and fragile.

He was engulfed in an unknown emotion for a moment. His heart was beating so fast.

“It’ll be okay.”

“Yes.”

Agnes closed her eyes, clenching the sleeve stained with blood in her hand.

Even as dawn approached, she couldn’t easily drift off to sleep. It was understandable.

Laslo called in his servant to bring a sedative.

“Drink this and rest.”

Agnes calmly took the cup and downed the medicine in one go.

The effects quickly took hold, and she soon fell asleep.

Even though he noticed her breathing had evened out, Laslo couldn’t easily leave her side.

“I will definitely…….”

He swallowed the rest of his sentence quietly.

Laslo stood up after arranging her hair neatly.

“Master.”

As he was closing the door, Bella hurriedly approached.

“The assassin who was moved to the underground prison for treatment has committed suicide.”

“Was there any evidence?”

Beller shook his head. Laslo’s face hardened. The two moved to the office.

“They are going too far.”

The knight muttered with dissatisfaction.

“It’s been several days since we arrived in the capital, and they sent an assassin.”

“How many troops do we have in this mansion?”

“Except for Elesh, there are only three knights, including me and ten soldiers.”

“Bring ten more knights and twenty soldiers from the estate.”

“Master, wouldn’t that be too conspicuous?”

“There’s still plenty of time before heading to the estate. What if something happens in the meantime?”

As time went on, he realized that something he had thought of lightly had to be taken seriously.

“Since the king has come out like this, we should prepare our side properly.”

“Understood. I will send a report to Sutmar.”

“And…”

Laslo glanced around, lowering his voice.

“As soon as you return to the estate, increase the number of Elesh members and expand the size of the knight order.”

“How many are you suggesting?”

“At least double the current number for now.”

“Double it?”

Beller’s eyes widened.

“After all, there’s no limit to the number of soldiers we have in Sutmar, right?”

“If you increase your troops at once, the king will notice.”

“We’ll have to be discreet about it. Train the troops gradually and disperse them. Do not gather them in one place. Enough to make it seem like routine training for reserve forces.”

“But master….”

“You will be staying in the capital and observing the atmosphere at the royal palace for the time being.”

“I’m afraid I might inadvertently offend the king even more.”

A look of concern crept across Beller’s face. Having spent a long time in the capital, he was well-versed in central politics.

“Even more so with Princess Agnes involved.”

“What’s the problem with that? We’re not increasing the number of soldiers for the purpose of rebellion.”

Laslo said firmly. However, Beller hesitated, clouding his words with uncertainty.

“Of course, there is no reason to doubt your upright loyalty, Master, but King Sebastian trusts nothing. It’s better not to leave any room for suspicion for no reason…”

“Such absurd words, Sir Beller.”

“…..”

“Didn’t you just say it yourself? The king trusts nothing. Whether the number of soldiers decreases or increases, as long as the princess is next to me, he will not dispel doubts.”

Beller shut his mouth. It wasn’t a wrong statement. Laslo continued to talk.

“In my view, they didn’t send the assassin to kill the princess but as a threat. The number of assassins is too small for that purpose.”

“Is that so?”

“It’s probably a warning to lay flat and surrender.”

That was the intention.

To have no great greed or desire.

Laslo tried to live contentedly and just tried to get out of a desperate situation.

However, seeing Agnes trembling in fear of being killed by her brother, he changed his mind.

She willingly married a man she had never seen before to survive.

Even though she knew it was poisonous mushrooms, she ate it silently.

Upon realizing this, his heart felt complicated and heavy.

Perhaps she had lived a life that he couldn’t have imagined.

“Now that the princess is in Sutmar, she is under my protection. I can’t let go of her hand just because I’m afraid of the king’s gaze.”

Beller, who noticed that Laslo’s will was firm, nodded.

“I’ll talk to Sir Zoltan.”

The news of the assassin’s intrusion at the Arpad Townhouse spread gradually in social circles.

As soon as Chavolti heard the news, he jumped and came to the mansion.

“How did you manage the Townhouse that an assassin reached your room!”

“Calm down. Nothing serious happened.”

“Of course, it is.”

He huffed in exasperation.

“Come back to my mansion right now. I’ve cleaned up where you stayed.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. Why would I go there when my mansion is fine.”

Agnes flatly refused. Chavolti insisted urgently for her to return.

Just in time, Laslo entered the drawing room.

“Duke. Come here and say something to Chavolti.”

“What’s going on?”

“Duke Arpad. I’ll take Agnes.”

Chavolti openly expressed his uncomfortable feelings. Laslo sat next to Agnes.

“An assassin! It seems the security at the Townhouse is lax. I’ll protect Agnes until she goes back to your territory.”

“I brought soldiers from the land.”

“Will a few soldiers solve the issue?”

“I placed more escort knights around her. I’ll pay more attention than before.”

Laslo replied calmly. Chavolti still looked unconvinced.

“That’s not enough. I’d rather her move to my mansion. then….”

“Marquis Bezel.”

Laslo cut him off.

“I know that the princess is the marquis’ sister. I I understand your concern well enough.”

“However?”

“However, I hope the marquis will recognize that I’m her husband.”

“……”

“I will do my best to protect her. Please don’t worry too much.”

Laslo said calmly. Agnes glanced at Laslo’s face.

Chavolti closed his mouth. There was a moment of silence.
