She Was Sent by God

SWSBG Chapter 21

With Agnes’ full support, the clinic grew in size.

The clinic, which started with seven doctors, was now filled with 19 doctors and over 30 assistants in just two months.

Adrienne’s clinic became more and more overwhelmed as the days went by.

People flocked not only from Sutmar but also from neighboring territories upon hearing that they provided free medical treatment.

There were even people building makeshift shelters in front of the hospital.

The number of people seeking the hospital’s services became overwhelmingly high.

Realizing that accepting an endless stream of patients would render them unable to treat existing patients, Adrienne put up a sign in front of the hospital.

<Only available to residents of Sutmar Territory>

Then an unexpected situation occurred.

“What’s all that?”

Laslo received a bunch of paper from Niall.

“This is a desperate letter from freedom seekers who wish to relocate.”

“They’re coming to Sutmar? Not leaving?”

Laslo’s face twisted strangely.

For the past few years, the residents of the territory ran away saying they couldn’t live here, and no one wanted to come in.

“Yes. I think it’s because of the clinic.”

“Clinic? Is it like a treatment center made by the herbalist?”

“Yes. With so many people flocking to the clinic every day, it seems Miss Adrienne decided to only accept Sutmar residents. Upon hearing that, they sent letters asking to be allowed to live here instead.”

“Huh, I see.”

It was such an unprecedented situation that Laslo couldn’t help but laugh cynically. He nodded easily.

“Let’s do it. There’s a lot of empty land all over the territory anyway. Relocate them to a suitable place.”

At first, there were about twenty immigrants, but their numbers grew as time passed.

So, by the end of winter, a small village for migrants was formed.

Later, they even made immigration application forms to distribute in front of the hospital.

Laslo found it quite fascinating to experience a winter that wasn’t as harsh and severe as usual.

“Now that I see it, it’s a stroke of luck that the princess came to Sutmar.”

During the meal, Laslo said something out of the blue.

“What are you talking about?”

“Everything changed after the princess came here.”

“Really?” Agnes chuckled.

“Right. There were times when we had to eat only potatoes due to food shortages.”

Laslo pointed at the table with his chin.

Now, their table was filled with an uncountable variety of dishes.

They even hired five or more chefs.

It used to be commonplace to have creaky chairs, broken glass windows, and to simply boil and eat potatoes and carrots without any seasoning.

Laslo was amazed by all this.

It had only been barely six months since she married into Sutmar. Yet, the changes that had occurred were countless.

“Princess.”

“Yes?”

“Thank you.”

Agnes turned away first, wondering why his sincere expression made her cheeks feel so warm.

“Hmm. It’s nothing.”

“It’s nothing? All the duck meat here is all thanks to the princess.”

Laslo diligently sliced the duck meat on the plate and placed it onto Agnes’s plate.

The attendants standing at a distance watched the duke and duchess with pleased expressions.

“Then…”

Agnes stopped picking up the meat with a fork and started talking.

“Can I continue staying here?”

“Hmm?”

“It’s been almost half a year since our promise.”

“Promise? What promise? Oh.”

— Yes. So promise me to stay until then. If your feelings remain unchanged even when spring comes, then you can leave. I will leave here before my Sebastian notices.

“Of course.”

Laslo looked at her firmly.

“I actually want to ask you to stay. But.”

She felt relieved at his acceptance but straightened up afterward, waiting with nervous eyes for his next words.

“But?”

“You don’t have to die in this castle with me, Princess.”

“That’s my will.”

Her eyes flashed. Laslo bit his lip, seeming about to spit something out.

Knock knock~

Then someone opened the dining room door and rushed in.

“What’s going on?”

“A messenger came from the Capital, Master.”

“Messenger?”

Laslo put down the tableware and stood up from his seat.

Agnes also stood up.

“No, princess, finish your meal. I’ll go out and see.”

“Okay.”

But somehow, after he went out, she lost her appetite.

Agnes hesitated for a moment, then got up, not wanting to eat alone.

After returning to her room, she suddenly noticed the scenery outside the window.

Then, she felt a sudden shock as if someone had hit her hard on the back of the head. Agnes staggered closer to the window.

The snow melted and spring had come.

How long had she been standing there? Suddenly, she heard a familiar voice from behind.

“Princess.”

Agnes slowly turned around. Laslo stood by the door, holding a letter with a blue ribbon.

“The king has passed away.”

“And the letter announcing the new king’s coronation must have come as well.”

Laslo nodded quietly.

“What do you want to do?”

She closed her eyes. It was clear what he was asking. More important than the funeral of the dead king is the celebration of the rise of the new king.

In the past, Laslo went to the capital alone to participate in the coronation ceremony.

Agnes was afraid of seeing Sebastian, so she hid in Estar Castle and just prayed for the time to pass.

“Me too.”

She took a deeo breath. Many things have changed from the past.

But more things have to change.

“I’ll go to the capital with the Duke.”

Somehow, being with this man made even facing her cruel brother seem less daunting.

The journey to the capital was peaceful and quite enjoyable. Until they reached the Arpad family’s townhouse.

She couldn’t help but feel miserable as she saw the mansion where the carriage stopped.

“I’m sure I told you to fix it.”

“I, I apologize,Madam. It’s an old building. This is all we could manage in over a month.”

The butler of the townhouse bowed deeply and sweated.

The ugly appearance was tolerable.

As they entered the townhouse, the spring breeze flowed through the broken glass windows.

The floor was rotten, so carpets were laid as a temporary measure, but even walking on it felt unstable and uncomfortable.

Of course, Ney was the most frightened.

“I can’t have Madam sleep in a place like this!”

Laslo also seemed flustered. After all, he hadn’t used it much in the past few years, so he probably didn’t know the condition it was in.

“Well, there’s no helping it. Let’s go there.”

“Where?”

Laslo blinked his eyes. Agnes shouted loudly to trust her.

ੈ✩‧₊˚༺☆༻*ੈ✩‧₊˚

“We haven’t received any notice of your arrival.”

“Looks like we came earlier than the messenger.”

Agnes replied with her characteristic boldness, causing the man in front to grimace.

“Where did you learn to visit without even notifying us?”

“You have learned everything I learned, so why ask where I learned it?”

“Chavolti, please stop and take the Princess inside. How hard must it have been for her to get here from the West?”

Sophia Bezel, wife of Chavolti the Marquis of Bezel, grabbed her husband’s arm.

Chavolti looked at the Duke and Duchess of Arpad with displeasure, then sighed.

“Butler.”

“Yes, master.”

“Prepare a suitable room for the duke and duchess.”

“What do you mean a suitable room? Give them the room upstairs in your wing. It has the best view in this mansion.”

“Agnes.”

The tip of Chavolti’s lips curled up, but his eyes narrowed

Laslo awkwardly turned to the fiery siblings before speaking.

“We don’t mind any room. Prince. Apologies for not sending a messenger ahead. We had to leave in a hurry.”

“Call me Marquis Bezel. I’m sick and tired of being called a prince.”

“Very well. Marquis Bezel.”

Laslo nodded easily.

Prince Chavolti came out of the palace after receiving a Marquis position when the late king passed away and the new king’s coronation was confirmed.

Agnes decided to stay at Chavolti’s mansion until the townhouse of the Arpad family was properly maintained.

Of course, the permission of the mansion owner comes next.

“How long do you intend to leave the guests like this? Butler, instruct the servants to unpack our belongings in the room I mentioned earlier.”

The butler of the Chavolti’s mansion, a close acquaintance of the princess, looked back at his master nervously. Chavolti shook his hand in annoyance.

“Do what Agnes says. But don’t make a nephew in my mansion. My room is right downstairs, so it’s noisy.”

“That’s what …….”

“Hmm. Don’t worry. Marquis Bezel.”

Laslo held Agnes’ hand tightly as she tried to open her mouth.

Agnes looked at him resentfully, seeming to have a lot to say.

“Thank you for your hospitality. Let’s go up now.”

Sophia also gently persuaded her husband and led him inside. Laslo climbed the stairs, still holding Agnes’s hand.

“Why did you suggest coming here when you are not on good terms with the prince?”

“What do you mean we’re not on good terms? I’m closest to Chavolti.”

Agnes glanced down at the hand he held, then walked alongside him, not letting go.

“Didn’t you just have an argument?”

“We didn’t argue, we’re just talking.”

Laslo wanted to ask if Prince Chavolti thought the same way as Agnes, but he swallowed his words.

As they passed through the long corridor, a servant who had been walking ahead opened the door.
