Outside the clinic.
Mu An anxiously stared at the clinic across from them. “Doctor, you’re not thinking of stealing my brother from Wen Shen’s clinic, are you?”
“What’s going on in that head of yours?” Wen Qingchen knocked him on the head and snorted coldly. “Do I look like the kind of barbarian who would steal patients from someone else’s clinic?”
Mu An rubbed his head, thinking to himself that she was more than just barbaric—she was downright terrifying.
He still couldn’t forget the scene of her stabbing him in the stomach; it was brutal enough to make his legs go weak.
Wen Qingchen, however, was completely unaware of this. “With my medical skills, people come begging me for treatment. Do I need to steal patients? Your so-called Zhang family brother will eventually come to me for help.”
“Yes, yes, yes, who can match your miraculous hands!” Mu An flattered her obsequiously.
“Cut the crap,” Wen Qingchen said. “Where is that forest you went to last time? Take me there.”
Wen Qingchen was very interested in that forest.
Based on Mu An’s description, that Zhang family boy was most likely possessed by a ghost. Otherwise, he wouldn’t fear light so much, nor would his touch turn people into dried corpses.
It was evident that a ghost had possessed that Zhang family boy, using his body as a medium to suck the essence and blood from humans.
A forest that could possess both a ghost and a demon flower… now that was intriguing.
A sinister smile spread across Wen Qingchen’s face.
Mu An was shocked. “What? Go again? Doctor! I-I don’t dare… I’m really afraid of dying…”
Wen Qingchen said impatiently, “With me here, what are you afraid of? Stop talking nonsense and lead the way.”
Succumbing to Wen Qingchen’s domineering attitude, Mu An had no choice but to lead the way, albeit reluctantly.
They left the city, which was surrounded by several mountains. Qingyun Temple was on one of these mountains, and the place Mu An was taking her to was on the mountain adjacent to Qingyun Temple.
Though he had only been there once, Mu An had a good memory and led Wen Qingchen towards the forest, eventually arriving at a deep, bottomless cave.
Mu An’s legs trembled as he weakly said, “H-here… we went into this cave last time…”
The cave was pitch black, with howling winds and eerie sounds that sent chills down one’s spine.
But Wen Qingchen didn’t feel a thing and dragged Mu An inside.
“Did you go all the way in last time?”
“No!” Mu An was terrified. “We only walked a bit over two hundred steps before we felt something was wrong and came back out…”
Wen Qingchen was thoughtful. The cave was filled with deathly energy.
Her healing ability had a purifying effect, so she wasn’t afraid of this deathly energy.
The cave walls were covered with climbing ivy, densely packed and adding a bit of chilliness.
The deeper they went, the stronger the wind grew. Gradually, it seemed they could hear a baby crying.
“Whimper… whimper…”
One cry after another, and Mu An’s legs completely gave out. He was about to muster the courage to tell the doctor that he couldn’t go any further when he suddenly stepped on something and fell to the ground with a thud.
“Ah! Don’t kill me, don’t kill me!” Mu An screamed.
Wen Qingchen lit a torch and looked, saying irritably, “It’s just a stone.”
Mu An trembled, “R-really?”
“Hmm, this stone is a bit strange.”
Wen Qingchen picked up the stone. It was transparent, like crystal, with characters engraved on it.
She looked closely. “Yin?”
“What?” Mu An was stunned and suddenly became excited. “Doctor! This stone, shaped like crystal, clear and transparent, with characters on it—this, this must be the legendary Transmitting Sound Stone, the only pair in the world!”
“Transmitting Sound Stone?” Wen Qingchen was puzzled. “Is it really? Seems valuable. How do you use it?”
Mu An shook his head. “I don’t know, but I’ve heard that the Transmitting Sound Stones come in pairs. No matter how far apart they are, they can communicate if the other stone is also with someone.”
“That’s amazing!” Isn’t it like a cell phone? Wen Qingchen was intrigued. She tried channeling her power into the stone, and it lit up.
“It actually works?!” Mu An exclaimed.
Wen Qingchen found it increasingly interesting. She tentatively spoke into the Transmitting Sound Stone, “Hello, hello? Hi? Friend on the other side of the stone, can you hear me? Are you a brother? Sister? Uncle? Aunt? Or a little sibling? Or maybe… no one has found the other Transmitting Sound Stone yet?”
–
Yin Chenming stood above a pool, with a row of guards behind him.
“The cave under the pool extends to another place,” Yin Chenming said solemnly. “Eleven, take four men and search southeast. Sixteen, you take…”
Suddenly, before Yin Chenming could finish speaking, a light emitted from his sleeve.
His voice paused, and he surprisingly took out a clear, crystalline stone from his sleeve.
Immediately, a string of voices came from the stone.
“Hello, hello? Hi? Friend on the other side of the stone…”
The guards were collectively shocked. The Transmitting Sound Stone! Someone found the other one?!
Yin Chenming was about to respond when he suddenly heard from the stone, “Forget it, the other Transmitting Sound Stone probably hasn’t been found yet. I don’t want to keep calling out and suddenly get an answer from a wandering ghost… Ghosts are scary, ugh!”
Yin Chenming: “…”
