Chapter 3: Night of Tremors

That night, feeling unusually tired after venturing out to the deck for the first time in several days, Floria decided to rest early. Out of concern for Floria’s condition, Franz ordered to prepare separate sleeping quarters during the voyage to ensure her comfort– And although her seasickness had improved significantly, she still experienced occasional dizziness and mild nausea, so she was grateful to have some time alone to rest.

After having her hair washed by Aura and finishing her bath, Floria quickly changed into a thin, pure white negligee. She dimmed the light of the lamp, which was fixed to the wall to prevent it from falling and causing a fire due to the rocking of the ship. The room grew even darker as the moon reached its new moon phase, leaving no trace of moonlight to penetrate through the window and shrouding the room in absolute darkness. Nevertheless, she managed to make her way to the bed, lifting the covers and slipping under the blankets.

“Well then, you must be tired. Please rest well,” Aura said.

“Yes, you can leave now, Aura. I’ve improved quite a bit, so it’s okay if you’re not with me all night,” Floria replied.

“Alright then. I’ll be in the adjacent room, so if anything happens, please ring the bell,” Aura said.

“Understood. Goodnight, Aura.”

“Goodnight, sleep well.”

After Aura’s departure, Floria let out a sigh and closed her eyes.

Tomorrow night, they would finally arrive at the southern island. It would be their wedding night, their first night together. The thought made her heart flutter with excitement and anticipation. What would it feel like to intimately share her body with Franz? How would she feel when she welcomed a man into her body for the first time? An indescribable mix of anxiety and expectation surged within her. Like the court ladies had occasionally whispered, would it be a sensation akin to ascending to heaven?

‘Aura mentioned that it might be quite painful the first time,’ Floria recalled their conversation the day before the wedding.

But if it meant being united with Franz, she could endure it. Surely he would be considerate and gentle, guiding her through it all.

As she began to doze off, thoughts of Franz’s noble and dignified face filled her mind, but then, the beautiful image of a heron she had seen during the day flashed behind her closed eyelids. How stunning that heron had been…

It must have been on its way to some island, and wanted to rest its wings from the long journey for a bit. Floria wished she could have let it rest a little longer…

Lost in her wandering thoughts, she fell into a deep sleep before she knew it.
