The swaying small boat was being carried farther out to sea by the ocean current. Looking out to the open water, she could see large waves crashing and small and large whirlpools were forming all around he
—It’s terrifying.
Floria’s heartbeat began to pound.
It was as if this small boat mirrored her own fate. Tossed about by waves she could not control, and in the end she would likely be swallowed by a large whirlpool and sink to the ocean floor.
A large wave struck the boat from the side, splashing her with a great spray of water.
Floria squeezed her eyes shut and clung to the boat.
“It’s scary. Help me. I’m scared—.”
At that moment, the one who came to her mind was Zanarf. There was no way he would come to save her. In the first place, he didn’t know Floria was in this small boat.
Still, she yearned to be embraced by Zanarf once more. To be wrapped in his strong arms and enveloped in his warmth.
“…Zanarf, I’m scared, please help me… Zanarf—!”
Floria wept bitterly. She cursed herself for being forsaken by God. Yet, even on the verge of death, the one person she wanted to believe in and put her trust in was Zanarf.
“—Floriaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”
Hearing a voice that she shouldn’t be hearing in this place, Floria looked up abruptly. The parrot was squawking as it flew across the water.
Cutting through the rough waves, Zanarf was swimming towards her, defying the stormy seas.
“Za, Zanarf…! Help me!”
“Cling tightly to the boat! Don’t let go!”
Floria nodded vigorously, sniffling. This wasn’t a dream. Zanarf had come to save her. Zanarf had…
With a splash, Zanarf powerfully surfaced from the waves and climbed onto the boat.
“Floria!”
“Zanarf…”
Floria clung to his sturdy frame. Zanarf enveloped her in a tight embrace.
“It’s alright now. You’re fine, calm down.”
Zanarf signaled towards the open sea, and Floria noticed his ship was approaching.
With a crack sound, an arrow with a small anchor-like hook on the end stuck into the boat’s bow. Zanarf skillfully detached the anchor from the bow and secured it, and the boat began swiftly moving against the current toward the ship.
“Just a little more.”
As Floria exhaled, a cracking sound echoed. The tension from the rope being pulled and the swirling current was tearing the boat apart where the anchor was lodged.
“Damn it. Ria, hold on to me!”
Zanarf quickly wrapped the rope with the anchor around both himself and Floria. With one arm he embraced Floria, gripping the rope extending from the ship tightly with his other hand.
The boat was rapidly breaking apart, and seawater was mercilessly rushing in through the growing gaps. They were already submerged up to their waists.
“Zanarf, I can’t swim…”
Floria clung to Zanarf with her hands tightly around his neck, fighting back her tears. If only she hadn’t carelessly boarded the boat, she wouldn’t have put Zanarf in danger. If because of her, Zanarf ended up…
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry…”
“Floria, trust me. I swore I’d protect you no matter what. Damn it, here it comes!”
At that moment, a large wave crashed down on them. The boat was reduced to splinters, it debris disappearing into the maelstrom.
