Side Story – Chapter 6

“I was walking down a path in my dream… When I suddenly turned my head, the road I had walked on was covered in red gemstones. They were large and red, like hailstones.”

Huh… Isn’t this totally a conception dream for a daughter…?

Agnes narrowed her eyes and thought to herself. Of course, she might not be pregnant… But if so many people around her were having similar dreams at the same time-

Just like in her past life, this world also had a concept similar to conception dreams. Particularly, those with strong magical power tended to have vivid dreams, and sometimes, they even had dreams on behalf of those without magic.

Agnes decided she would call the palace doctor soon and continued eating her dessert. Maybe it was the thought that she might be pregnant, but somehow, her appetite had increased.

A Few Days Later

“Congratulations, Your Highness!”

Just as expected.

Agnes smiled at the palace doctor, who was offering their heartfelt congratulations. Meanwhile, Kylo stood beside her, looking completely dazed.

“Congratulations, Kylo.”

Only after hearing Agnes’ words did he finally snap out of it. Without a word, Kylo pulled Agnes into a tight embrace. Soon, her shoulder, where he had buried his face, became slightly damp.

Pregnancy turned out to be much tougher than expected. People said that those with magic found pregnancy and childbirth a bit easier… If this was “easier,” then just how hard was it for ordinary people?

Her morning sickness wasn’t even that bad, but she could feel her stamina depleting day by day.

The bigger her belly grew, the more her strength faded, but she couldn’t help but marvel at the fact that a new life was growing inside her.

And then time passed…

Finally, the time came when they could determine the baby’s gender.

In truth, because of her powerful magic, Agnes had been sure from the beginning.

A daughter.

But just in case, she hadn’t said it out loud. Kylo, too, seemed curious but deliberately didn’t ask. She wanted to see his surprised reaction.

When the court mage confirmed it, the result was as she had expected-a daughter.

“A daughter? A daughter?! Ahahaha! Of course!”

No one was happier about the news than the emperor. His joy was so obvious that even Damian felt a little left out.

Emperor Alexander immediately summoned a servant and ordered them to bring an album containing Agnes’ childhood photos.

He carefully selected a few treasured pictures and tucked them into his robes. From then on, at every state meeting, he proudly showed them off to the nobles.

“Ah, some of you here might remember. This is what our Agnes looked like when she was little.”

He endlessly boasted about how beautiful and adorable his granddaughter would be, just like Agnes.

Hearing this, a few older nobles recalled Agnes’ childhood.

The imperial princess, once known as the ticking time bomb of the palace… Her younger years had been truly legendary.

‘Her childhood, huh… She once pulled off my wig, and I was in real trouble then.’

Count Court let out a silent sigh and shook his head. It was a past he would rather forget. Back then, he had hidden his baldness under a wig, but thanks to the princess, his secret had been completely exposed.

Not just the nobles, but all the palace servants were now on high alert.

They feared that the second coming of Agnes was on the way.

And for good reason-

As a child, Agnes had been an absolute tyrant. Once she started walking and running, every place she visited turned into a disaster zone.

Disrupting state meetings was a daily routine. She would barge into the knights’ training grounds and cause havoc. She had even once destroyed a carefully maintained flower bed.

And it wasn’t as if she had been quiet as an infant either.

Before she could walk, she was already a difficult baby.

She cried when she was hungry, she cried when she was full, she cried when she was sleepy, and she cried when she woke up. She cried almost all day long, forcing several people to take turns calming her down.

Older palace servants, who still remembered those days, shuddered in fear. Young servants, hearing the stories, trembled as well.

Meanwhile, while the maids in the imperial palace were steeling themselves as if preparing for war-

Agnes was simply wondering what Kylo had been like as a child.

She had heard bits and pieces from him before, but every time, she couldn’t help but tear up.

He had been too pitiful. That was why Kylo rarely spoke about his childhood.

Unlike Agnes, Kylo had no particular attachment to his past. It was all over now, and he was now receiving more happiness than he ever thought possible.

He was simply excited to meet their baby. At first, he had been full of worries, wondering if he would be a good father, but after seeing how much Agnes was struggling, he quickly pulled himself together.

Once the baby was born, it would be his turn to step up.

Thinking about how different his child’s life would be from his own, he felt like he could handle anything.

Following the advice of those around him, Kylo began working on his stamina before the baby arrived. They told him that the most important thing in parenting was physical endurance.

As Agnes approached the final months of her pregnancy, she became more exhausted, but despite everything, she felt an overwhelming sense of happiness.

She smiled whenever she remembered the first time she and Kylo felt the baby kick.

Of course, after that, she didn’t always welcome the kicking. By the final month, the baby was moving so much that she could hardly sleep.

And then, finally, the day of the birth arrived.

A beautiful baby was born, inheriting Kylo’s black hair and blue eyes.

Her delicate features resembled Agnes, making her a truly lovely little princess.

The emperor personally chose a name for her-“Leila,” an ancient word meaning “child of paradise.”

The moment Agnes met her daughter for the first time, she felt a deep, overwhelming emotion.

“Black hair and blue eyes… This is perfect.”

It was as if she were looking at her favorite person as a baby, and she was completely satisfied.

She was already making plans-she would take pictures of Leila with her dolls and Kylo. The thought alone made her smile.

Meanwhile, the palace staff grew even more nervous. The head maid of the princess’s quarters had even started taking calming medication days in advance.

However, against everyone’s expectations, Leila turned out to be an incredibly gentle baby.

She only cried when she was hungry, and even then, never for more than ten seconds.

It was the kind of baby that only appeared in legends.

Just as he had promised himself, Kylo took on most of the parenting duties. Even during the late-night hours when most parents would rely on a nanny, he personally cared for the baby.

Sometimes, when Agnes woke up in the middle of the night, she would see Kylo walking around the bedroom, holding their daughter.

“Is she not sleeping?”

“She just fell asleep.”

“Then lay her in the crib.”

“…I’ll hold her a little longer.”

Agnes admired Kylo’s stamina. He simply couldn’t bear to let go of their baby.

“She’s so tiny. If I put her down, she might get cold.”

“…You’re right. She does look especially small.”

She hadn’t thought so when the maids held her, but in Kyle’s large arms, the baby looked even tinier-like a newborn kitten.

As Agnes watched the peaceful sight, her eyes slowly closed. The gentle music from the baby’s music box made her sleepy.

Kylo looked at his sleeping wife and child, his heart overflowing.

They had the same features. Just looking at them made him smile.

Was it really okay to be this happy?

Once, he had only dreamed of becoming a hero. He had wanted power to take revenge on those who scorned him.

But now, he had no more desires.

Agnes’ love had changed him. As long as she looked at him with warmth, he feared nothing.

All he wanted was to be their knight forever.

He gazed at his sleeping angels and prayed to the god-

“Please, let this happiness last forever.”

I am disappointed too that the chapters are short, but I love it. I get worried about how the prince was sad when the emperor care more about that granddaughter on the grandson TT
