I'll Beat You Until Your Bones Break

Chapter 242 – I’ll Beat You Until Your Bones Break

Old Madam Yan had just regained consciousness, but upon hearing the servant’s report, she fainted again.

With Bai Mingyue unwilling to come, Yan Boshu could only go to Jiren Hall to request a doctor.

The doctor stuck Old Madam Yan with needles and prescribed a heap of medicine. When he was done, he said nearly the same thing as Bai Mingyue.

“The old madam is advanced in years and has suffered repeated strokes. She can only be maintained with medicine. As for how long the medicine can sustain her, it’s hard to say.”

Old Madam Yan had just been frightened into unconsciousness. Old Master Yan feared when she woke up and heard these words, she would faint again. He quickly ordered a servant to take him to Yan Wenfeng’s room to check on him.

“Eldest Young Master, Yan Xiaosi has General Zhan protecting him. This humble one brought three guardsmen to the Tian house but was still unable to bring him back for punishment.”

Yan Wenfeng’s back where he had been struck by the pole had swollen up. It hurt so much he could only lie prone on the bed. Hearing the servant’s report, he angrily pounded the bed with his left fist.

“A bunch of useless trash.”

Ms. Li also cursed from the side, “What’s the point of the Yan family keeping you all?”

The mother and son cursed until the servant shrank his neck.

Just then, Granny Li brought the doctor from Jiren Hall to the door.

“Madam, Eldest Young Master, Master Yan invited the doctor from Jiren Hall. Let the doctor take a look at the young master.”

Yan Wenfeng’s whole body hurt so much he thought he would die. He had long been waiting for the doctor and anxiously said, “Come in.”

Granny Li led the doctor from Jiren Hall inside.

Ms. Li watched the doctor examine Yan Wenfeng and nervously asked, “Doctor, how is my son’s condition?”

The doctor wrote out a prescription as he spoke. “Besides a minor fracture of the right arm that requires a cast, everywhere else is just superficial wounds. He’ll recover after a few days of rest.”

Hearing the words “right arm fracture”, Ms. Li and Yan Wenfeng’s faces greatly changed, especially Yan Wenfeng who looked even more unsightly than a latrine stone.

No wonder after returning, his right arm hurt more and more. At this moment, it hurt so much he couldn’t move it.

Ms. Li gnashed her teeth in fury. “Yan Xiaosi, how dare you strike so viciously!”

Yan Wenfeng had no time to be furious at Yan Xiaosi right now. His mind turned and he nervously asked the doctor, “Doctor, how long will I need to wear the cast on my right arm?”

The doctor had finished writing the prescription. He looked at Yan Wenfeng and said, “It takes a hundred days for an injury to the bones and tendons to heal. Young Master Yan, yours is a fracture. After having the cast put on, you mustn’t use force with your right hand for 120 days. Otherwise, there might be long term complications.”

It would take 120 days.

Upon hearing this, Yan Wenfeng’s heart sank to the depths.

Ms. Li’s face looked like she had eaten feces.

There were only two months until this year’s regional imperial exams. Needing 120 days to recuperate meant it would interfere with the exams.

Yan Wenfeng had worked so hard, hoping to win first place and the title of top scholar in this year’s regional exams so he could enter officialdom and bring glory to the Yan family. But now the doctor was actually telling him his right arm fracture required 120 days to heal! He instantly felt he had fallen into an abyss.

Ms. Li furrowed her brows and grasped the doctor’s sleeve, anxiously asking, “My son needs to take the regional exams in two months and will need to use his right hand to write. Doctor, do you have any way to heal my son’s arm within two months?”

Men and women should keep their distance. The doctor unhappily pulled his sleeve back.

“Madam Yan, isn’t this an unreasonable request? This humble one didn’t bring plaster and bandages on today’s trip to Shaoyao Village. I must trouble Young Master Yan to come with me to Jiren Hall.”

Ms. Li’s hopes were dashed from head to toe. She was dazed for a moment before ordering the servant beside her to prepare a carriage.

Seeing the unsightly expressions on the two masters’ faces, Granny Li cautiously asked, “Madam, Eldest Young Master, should we inform Old Master about this matter?”

“Don’t tell Old Master.”

Yan Wenfeng sternly rebuked, but then realized he had reprimanded Granny Li in front of an outsider, damaging his gentle and virtuous reputation. He quickly softened his tone.

“Grandmother is unconscious which is already a great blow to grandfather. If we tell grandfather about this matter too, I fear he won’t be able to take it.”

This absolutely could not be revealed to Old Master Yan. The Old Master had already been displeased with him lately. If the Old Master learned about this matter too, he would only be more disappointed in him.

Granny Li didn’t dare disobey. “Yes, Eldest Young Master.”

The servant quickly prepared the carriage. Ms. Li accompanied Yan Wenfeng to Jiren Hall to get the cast put on.

The mother and son were unwilling to give up. After getting the cast at Jiren Hall, they went to the Yu Family Private Kitchen to find Bai Mingyue.

Their luck was quite good. That noon, Bai Mingyue was having lunch at the Yu Family Private Kitchen.

Seeing the immaculate white-robed man sitting by the carved window, the mother and son approached.

A shadow fell over Bai Mingyue. He frowned and casually lifted his head to glance at the mother and son standing across from him. With an expression as if he didn’t recognize them, he spoke in a cold and distant manner, “You two are blocking my light. Please move aside.”

Seeing Bai Mingyue’s aloof expression, Ms. Li and Yan Wenfeng couldn’t help feeling a bit angry, but they didn’t dare act out.

Yan Wenfeng forcibly endured the awkwardness and shame, speaking with great poise, “Doctor Bai, we meet again.”

Bai Mingyue took a light sip of tea, his tone languid. “This one’s memory isn’t very good. May I ask the young master’s surname and given name?”

Yan Wenfeng felt like his warm face had met with a cold butt. The politeness he had painstakingly maintained was about to crumble.

Grinning despite inner displeasure, he replied, “This humble one is Yan Wenfeng, residing in Shaoyao Village. Not long ago, Doctor Bai visited my home.”

Bai Mingyue set down his teacup with a look of sudden realization.

“Oh, so it’s the Eldest Young Master of the Yan family in Shaoyao Village. This morning, your second uncle sought out this one and described your old madam’s condition. This one is powerless to help with the old madam’s illness. I already told your second uncle. Is there something you two need from me now?”

Ms. Li interjected, “Doctor Bai has misunderstood. We’re not here for the old madam.”

“Then for what reason?”

Ms. Li pointed at Yan Wenfeng’s right arm that was wrapped up like a rice dumpling with the plaster cast.

“My son’s arm is fractured. The doctor from Jiren Hall said he needs to wear the cast and recuperate for 120 days. But in two months, my son needs to take the regional imperial exams. Doctor Bai, do you have any way to heal my son’s arm within two months?”

“I do not.”

Bai Mingyue’s answer was quick and decisive.

“It takes a hundred days for an injury to the bones and tendons to heal. Young Master Yan’s is a fracture that needs slow healing until the bone fuses. Otherwise, there might be complications.”

It was truly exactly the same as what the doctor from Jiren Hall said.

Yan Wenfeng wasn’t willing to give up. He clenched his left fist. “Doctor Bai, your medical skills are superb. Is there really no other way?”

Bai Mingyue glanced at his rice dumpling-like arm and suddenly asked with interest, “Young Master Yan, how did you injure this arm? You’re young. Even if you took a fall, it shouldn’t fracture your arm.”

For people in their early twenties, the bones are usually quite resilient and shouldn’t fracture from a simple fall.
