Chapter 168 – Flying with a Man in Arms
Yan Xiaosi’s words felt like a cool breeze to the five men, sending a chill down their spines.
One of them turned his head, trembling with fear, and asked, “Young brother, do you have any other instructions?”
Yan Xiaosi waved her hand impatiently.
“That’s all, now scram.”
The five, as if granted a pardon, quickly scampered down the mountain with their tails between their legs.
After they disappeared from sight, Yan Xiaosi took Yan Shuxue’s hand, her cold demeanor softening into gentle and soft words, “Second sister, can you make it back to the cave by yourself?”
Yan Shuxue, gripping her hand nervously, asked, “Xiaosi, aren’t you coming back? Where are you going?”
“I’m going to settle accounts with Yan Bozhang.”
Yan Shuxue grew even more uneasy knowing Yan Xiaosi was going after Yan Bozhang.
“Xiaosi, I want to go with you. I don’t feel safe letting you go alone.”
“Second sister, you won’t be much help if you come. Besides, I have General Zhan and Doctor Murong with me. Don’t worry about me.”
Murong Qinjian’s mouth twitched.
“Hey kid, when did I agree to help you confront Yan Bozhang?”
He didn’t recall ever saying that.
Yan Xiaosi glanced at him and replied, “If Doctor Murong does not wish to go, then I would be grateful if he could escort my second sister back to the cave.”
Murong Qinjian’s handsome face tightened.
This kid really knew how to take advantage of him.
Yan Shuxue remembered what Long Yu had said earlier. (“This general will not stand idly by.”)
With two esteemed figures from Xijing accompanying Xiaosi, she had nothing to worry about.
Seeing Murong Qinjian’s tense face, she quickly spoke, “How could I trouble Doctor Murong with such a task? Xiaosi is young and doesn’t understand much. I ask General Zhan and Doctor Murong to forgive and take care of him.”
“Xiaosi, it’s only a short walk of two incense sticks’ time to the cave. I can make it back on my own. Go with General Zhan and Doctor Murong.”
After watching Yan Shuxue walk away, Yan Xiaosi turned her attention back to Long Yu and Murong Qinjian, saying politely, “General Zhan, Doctor Murong, let’s go.”
As she spoke, she took the lead.
Long Yu, following behind her, asked, “You’re just going to walk?”
Yan Xiaosi stopped, turning to look at him with a puzzled expression.
“What else can I do? This is Big Sister Peak, the paths are rugged, and it’s impossible to travel by carriage.”
“Those five men ran faster than rabbits. By the time you catch up to them in Xize County city, will you be able to apprehend them?”
Yan Xiaosi furrowed her brows.
It was true that she had been delayed a bit, and it seemed unlikely she could catch up with the five men.
“May I ask for General Zhan’s guidance?”
Suddenly, Long Yu walked up to her silently, looked at her, and without any warning, a long hand landed on her waist.
The moment Long Yu touched Yan Xiaosi’s waist, his expression faltered for a second.
His waist was even slimmer and softer than a woman’s.
Yan Xiaosi had never been so intimately close to a man. Feeling the warmth of Long Yu’s palm through her thin clothes, her muscles tensed, and she turned her head, looking at him defensively.
“What are you doing?”
Without answering her question, Long Yu, holding her waist, suddenly pushed off the ground, and the two of them soared into the air, flying down the mountain like the wind.
Yan Xiaosi realized that she was already many feet above the ground. Looking down, the scenery receded rapidly, and the sudden suspension in mid-air made her feel weightless.
“Is this the legendary lightness skill?”
Although she was not used to it, she was full of curiosity, her eyes wide open and sparkling as she looked at Long Yu.
Upon a closer look at Long Yu’s profile, she found it somewhat familiar, wondering what the face under the half mask looked like.
“General Zhan, why do you always wear a mask? Did you get injured in battle? I can help scars from sword wounds disappear. If you’re willing, you can remove your mask and let me see your face.”
Feeling Yan Xiaosi’s breath on his face, Long Yu’s muscles tensed.
“If you don’t want to fall, keep your mouth shut,” he responded.
Looking down again, Yan Xiaosi noticed they were even higher above the ground. If she were to fall, she would certainly be disfigured.
Her heart tightened, and she quickly shut her mouth.
Murong Qinjian stood rooted to the spot, his expression one of shock.
Long Yu usually disliked being touched, but today he had flown away holding a man.
“Hey, wait for me, you two!”
As Long Yu carried Yan Xiaosi away using his lightness skill, Murong Qinjian finally reacted, and with a light step, he followed them down the mountain.
Long Yu’s horse, Lightning, and Murong Qinjian’s steed were waiting at the foot of the mountain.
When they reached the base, Long Yu and Murong Qinjian whistled, and the two horses quickly appeared.
Grasping Yan Xiaosi’s waist, Long Yu threw her onto Lightning’s back with force.
Yan Xiaosi, although she had seen horses in her previous life, had never encountered one as beautiful as the one beneath her now. The horse was tall and muscular, with a glossy black coat, not a single stray hair, truly a fine steed.
As Yan Xiaosi steadied herself, she couldn’t resist touching the horse’s mane.
Lightning, not fond of her touch, raised its front hooves and neighed.
Long Yu grabbed the reins, mounted the horse, and coldly said to Yan Xiaosi, “Don’t touch Lightning.”
Yan Xiaosi’s mouth twitched, and she quickly withdrew her hand.
Generals typically have strong bonds with their horses, and this one, named Lightning, must be General Zhan’s beloved warhorse. It would get angry if touched carelessly.
“I’m really sorry. I couldn’t help touching it because it’s such a fine horse.”
Murong Qinjian rode up beside Yan Xiaosi, glanced at Lightning, and said lightly, “Lightning is a purebred heavenly horse, extremely valuable. Usually, when feeding or bathing the horse,”
He almost revealed Long Yu’s name and quickly paused his words.
“General Zhan himself takes care of it, or it’s the responsibility of the Dragon Guards. Others are not allowed to touch Lightning.”
No wonder.
After hearing Murong Qinjian’s words, Yan Xiaosi quickly clasped her hands together, daring not to touch anything on the horse again.
If she accidentally removed a mane hair, she really couldn’t afford it.
While she was lost in thought, Long Yu mounted the horse and sat in front of her. Then he commanded sharply, “Go!”
The horse began to gallop.
Yan Xiaosi, holding nothing, was caught off guard. She leaned back, then lunged forward, her nose hitting Long Yu’s back. The impact made her nose throb with pain, and stars danced in her eyes.
She steadied herself, rubbed her nose, and complained to Long Yu, “General Zhan, before you spur the horse into a gallop, could you please warn me? My nose is almost broken.”
