Big Sister Blushes

Chapter 119 – Big Sister Blushes

Roaming around in the deep woods does indeed tire out the legs.

Yan Xiaosi felt a bit of aching in her feet, so she heeded Ms. Zhong’s advice and laid down on the bed they had made in the morning.

The softness underneath was truly much more comfortable than sleeping on the hard wooden bed in the broken grass temple. It felt a bit like lying on a mattress.

Yan Xiaosi wasn’t sleepy at first, but as she lay there, feeling comfortable, her eyelids gradually became heavy.

She didn’t know how long she slept until a fragrance wafted into her nose, tempting her to open her eyes.

Upon opening her eyes and focusing her gaze, she saw that Ms. Zhong and Yan Shuqin were already setting out the food.

A bowl of braised rabbit, a small pot of rabbit stew, and Ms. Zhong had also cooked white rice.

From a distance, seeing the braised rabbit in the bowl, Yan Xiaosi couldn’t help but gulp down her saliva.

Hearing her swallowing, Ms. Zhong glanced at her.

“You woke up just in time. Hurry and get up. Wash your hands. We’re about to eat.”

Yan Xiaosi got up to go to the ditch outside the cave to wash her hands, and she ran into Tian Dazhuang as soon as she stepped outside the cave.

“Big Brother Dazhuang, why are you here?”

When Tian Dazhuang saw Yan Xiaosi, his expression became a bit embarrassed at first.

“Xiaosi, I’m sorry.”

Yan Xiaosi laughed and said, “Big Brother Dazhuang, what do you have to apologize to me for?”

Although Tian Dazhuang was a mama’s boy, he had been quite nice to her since she crossed over to this era.

“I… I am apologizing on behalf of my mother. My father died early, and my mother struggled to raise me. She is worried that I won’t find a wife, that’s why she did what she did today.”

“Big Brother Dazhuang, your mother is your mother, you are you, you don’t need to apologize for her.”

Upon hearing Yan Xiaosi’s response, Tian Dazhuang felt a bit sad, “Xiaosi, are you still blaming my mother?”

Actually, Yan Xiaosi didn’t take to heart the words Ms. Wang said in the morning at all. Ms. Wang might be petty, but she wasn’t as bad as the Yan family. Even the people from the Yan family couldn’t upset her mood, let alone Ms. Wang.

“Big Brother Dazhuang, you’re overthinking. My eldest sister didn’t marry into your family, so why should I blame your mother? Don’t worry, I didn’t take your mother’s words to heart. What your mother said this morning will not affect our friendship.”

With Tian Dazhuang as a companion, at least she would have someone to accompany her when she went up the mountain to gather herbs.

Upon hearing Yan Xiaosi’s words, Tian Dazhuang finally let out a sigh of relief.

He took out something he had been hiding behind his back: “Xiaosi, see what I’ve brought for you.”

Yan Xiaosi saw that he was holding seven or eight tender corn cobs in his hand.

It wasn’t the time to pick corn yet, but this kind of tender corn, boiled or grilled, is the most delicious. Most farmers couldn’t bear to pick it early for eating.

Yan Xiaosi stared at the green-shelled corn cobs and couldn’t help but lick her lips.

For her, a food lover, this was a huge temptation.

“Big Brother Dazhuang, aren’t you afraid that your mother will chase you with a spatula for picking unripe corn?”

Thinking of his formidable mother, Tian Dazhuang’s body tensed up.

“No… I’m not afraid, my mother doesn’t know that I picked the corn. When she finds out, I’ll tell her it was stolen. With her temper, she’ll sit at the entrance of the village cursing for half a day and then forget about it.”

Since Tian Dazhuang could deal with Ms. Wang, she definitely had to eat this corn.

“Big Brother Dazhuang, have you had dinner yet?”

The aroma of fried meat wafted out from the cave. Tian Dazhuang licked his lips, somewhat embarrassed to answer, “Not yet, I told my mother I went hunting on the mountain.”

“That’s perfect, let’s roast corn.”

Yan Xiaosi washed her hands in the stream and led Tian Dazhuang into the cave.

Tian Dazhuang had been to this cave before and thought it would be dim inside, but when he walked in, the cave was brightly lit with a glowing stone placed inside.

“Xiaosi, what is this?”

Thinking it was some kind of treasure, Tian Dazhuang stared at the luminescent stone with curiosity.

Yan Xiaosi squatted in front of the stove, peeling the green husks off the corn cobs, and answered Tian Dazhuang, “Big Brother Dazhuang, this is just a luminescent stone. It glows in the dark. I found it in the mountains.”

“Dazhuang is here, let’s have dinner together.”

Ms. Zhong added a pair of bowls and chopsticks, inviting him to eat at the stone table.

However, Tian Dazhuang squatted down next to Yan Xiaosi.

“Auntie Yan, I’ll help Xiaosi roast the corn first.” He squatted close to Yan Xiaosi. For some reason, he just liked being with Yan Xiaosi. Thinking about how the third household of the Yan family had moved to live on the mountain, it wouldn’t be easy to see Yan Xiaosi in the future, which made him feel uncomfortable.

It was already hot in front of the stove, and Tian Dazhuang sitting so close to her made Yan Xiaosi feel even hotter.

“Big Brother Dazhuang, are you cold? Come here. Since you’re cold, you can roast these corn cobs.”

Yan Xiaosi handed the corn cobs she had skewered with sticks into Tian Dazhuang’s hands, patted the dust off her hands, and got up to eat at the stone table.

Tian Dazhuang took the corn cobs, looking at her with a wry smile.

“Xiaosi, Big Brother Dazhuang came all the way to bring us corn cobs, you should be more polite to him.”

Yan Shuqin was somewhat speechless at her younger sister’s behavior.

Yan Xiaosi took a bite of the braised rabbit meat, chewed it, and her mouth filled with flavor. She was not willing to put down her bowl to help Tian Dazhuang.

“Big Sister, Big Brother Dazhuang is cold, so I gave him the job of roasting the corn.”

Is that so?

Yan Shuqin clearly saw that Tian Dazhuang’s face was red.

“Shuqin, let Xiaosi eat, I’m a bit cold and want to warm up by the stove.”

Tian Dazhuang said with a red face, fearing Yan Shuqin would scold Yan Xiaosi again.

Seeing Tian Dazhuang’s face turning red and almost sweating, yet claiming to be cold, Yan Shuqin couldn’t help but want to laugh.

She moved the corners of her mouth and said, “Big Brother Dazhuang, I will save some rabbit meat for you. Hurry up and roast the corn, then come and eat.”

“Ah.”

Yan Xiaosi gnawed on a rabbit bone, watching Yan Shuqin put several pieces of boneless rabbit meat into Tian Dazhuang’s bowl.

She suddenly felt as if her sister was taking care of her brother-in-law. If it weren’t for Yan Shuqin’s earlier clear statement that she didn’t like Tian Dazhuang, she would really think Yan Shuqin was interested in him.

After busying himself at the stove for a while, Tian Dazhuang finally finished roasting the corn cobs and brought them to the stone table, handing them to Ms. Zhong and Yan Xiaosi.

There were only five stones to sit on in the cave, Yan Shuqin got up and gave up her stone.

“Big Brother Dazhuang, you sit.”

Yan Xiaosi glanced at her subtly, noticing that her cheeks reddened slightly as she spoke to Tian Dazhuang.
