Portable Space: Little Miracle Doctor

Chapter 105 – The Dilapidated Grass Temple Belongs to the Yan Family

As Yan Shuqing nodded, it solidified the fact that the members of the third Yan household didn’t know what was good for them.

Seeing her nod, the old patriarch’s face turned darker than the bottom of a pot. He had been the county patriarch of Xize County for so many years and the head of the family for so many years. No one had ever dared to defy him. Now, he felt that his authority was being challenged by his daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He felt as if he had been slapped in the face.

Seeing the old patriarch’s anger, Yan Wenfeng indignantly said, “Grandfather, you kindly sent Mother and Sister to invite Third Aunt and her family back to the mansion to live, yet they refused. Third Aunt’s family really doesn’t know what’s good for them.”

“Yes, indeed.”

Yan Wenqing, who usually didn’t get along well with Yan Wenfeng because he found Wenfeng’s self-proclaimed scholarly manner pretentious, quickly nodded in agreement.

No one in the room genuinely hoped for the members of the third Yan household to return to the mansion. After the two juniors had spoken, Yan Bozhang said to the old patriarch, “Father, don’t get upset with my third brother’s wife and their children. Perhaps they have grown accustomed to life outside after living there for so long, and that’s why they don’t want to return to the mansion.”

“Father, Big Brother is right. Since the third brother’s family and children don’t want to come back, you should just let them be.”

The one speaking now was Ms. Hu.

Out of everyone in the room, she probably hoped the least for Ms. Zhong’s return.

She felt displeased remembering Yan Boshu’s past feelings for Ms. Zhong.

Everyone in the room was talking, but in the end, only Yan Boshu remained silent.

The old patriarch turned his gaze to Yan Boshu: “Second son, what do you think of this matter?”

Yan Boshu, having been named, had no choice but to face his father, who wore a dark expression.

“Father, do whatever you think is best. I have no objections.”

Anyway, he had his restaurant, and the return of Ms. Zhong and her family wouldn’t affect him much. The most it would do is give him less of the family property when it was divided in the future. Recalling Ms. Zhong’s gentle and lovely demeanor when she was young, he didn’t mind.

As soon as he finished speaking, he received a warning glare from Ms. Hu.

The old patriarch pondered for a moment, then instructed Yan Bozhang, “Eldest son, go to the dilapidated grass temple.”

Thinking about the potential benefits Yan Xiaosi’s excellent medical skills could bring to the Yan family, the old patriarch was somewhat reluctant to give up. He held onto the hope that Ms. Zhong and Yan Xiaosi were merely feigning their reluctance and deep down truly desired to return to the Yan mansion.

Like Ms. Li, Yan Bozhang dared not defy the old patriarch’s orders.

“Yes, Father.”

He called a servant to carry a lantern and left the Yan mansion for the dilapidated grass temple at the end of the village. However, they quickly returned.

Yan Bozhang walked up to the old patriarch with a very unhappy expression, “Father, I’ve tried my best. It’s the third family and Xiaosi who refuse to return, and there’s nothing I can do.”

Both Li and Yan Bozhang had failed to bring them back. This hit the old patriarch hard.

Suddenly, the old patriarch’s face turned even uglier than Yan Bozhang’s, who had just returned from the dilapidated grass temple at the end of the village with a face full of dust.

Bang, bang!

The old patriarch kept a straight face, clenched his teeth, and slammed his hand on the tea table beside him.

“If they dare not consider themselves descendants of the Yan family, then they shouldn’t stay in the dilapidated grass temple at the end of the village.”

The dilapidated grass temple at the end of the village used to be a land temple. The ones who had funded the construction of the temple were the Yan family.

The old patriarch’s words were a bit unclear, and it took Ms. Hu a moment to understand.

Could it be that in his anger, the old patriarch intended to drive Ms. Zhong and her family out of the dilapidated grass temple at the end of the village? If so, that would be great.

Thinking about Yan Boshu’s past feelings for Ms. Zhong, Ms. Hu wished nothing more than for Ms. Zhong to die.

“Father, what do you mean by what you just said?”

The old patriarch looked at Ms. Hu, snorted coldly, and said to Yan Bozhang, “Eldest son, you’re not going to the government office tomorrow. Go to Village Chief Liu’s house.”

He was clearly seeking Liu Qianhe’s help to drive people out.

Yan Bozhang understood the old patriarch’s intention, but still asked, “Father, could you please clarify your words?”

“Tomorrow, have Liu Qianhe reclaim the dilapidated grass temple at the end of the village.”

After making his instructions clear, the old patriarch left the room, leaning on his cane and fuming.

The old patriarch was angry, but everyone in the room was happy.

Under the deep night sky, at the dilapidated grass temple at the end of the village, Ms. Zhong lay in bed suffering from insomnia once again.

Since she couldn’t sleep, she got up and lit the oil lamp, sewing the last piece of fur under the lamp.

“Mother, why are you up again?”

The light from the oil lamp woke Yan Shuqin. She opened her eyes and saw Ms. Zhong busy under the lamp.

Ms. Zhong glanced at her.

“Qin, you go back to sleep. I can’t sleep, so I might as well finish sewing this last bit of fur into a fur ball.”

Yan Shuqin tucked Yan Shuxue and Yan Shuyun in, then got out of bed and walked quietly to Ms. Zhong’s side, “Mother, Xiaosi has refused Aunt and Uncle. Are you worried that Grandfather will be angry and settle scores with Xiaosi tomorrow?”

Under the oil lamp, Ms. Zhong’s brows were tightly furrowed. Yan Shuqin had hit the nail on the head and she sighed deeply.

“Qin’er, do you know that the dilapidated grass temple where we’re living in now was built by the Yan family?”

When the Yan family built this grass temple, Yan Shuqin had not yet been born, but she had heard about it from the villagers of Shaoyao Village.

Yan Shuqin nodded and asked Ms. Zhong with a serious expression, “Mother, are you worried that Grandfather will take back this dilapidated grass temple?”

If the old patriarch really did this, they would lose even this shabby place to live in.

Ms. Zhong’s face turned somewhat pale.

What kind of cruel thing was the old patriarch not capable of? He could drive her and her four children out of the Yan family years ago, and now he could take back the dilapidated grass temple.

“Qin’er, you’re the eldest sister. I’m only telling you about this. Please don’t tell Shuxue, Shuyun, and Xiaosi. They’re younger than you, and I’m afraid they’ll be scared if they knew.”

Ms. Zhong lowered her voice.

Yan Shuqin nodded, her tone heavy, “Mother, I understand. But, mother, if Grandfather really takes back this grass temple, what should we do?”

What should they do? At this moment, Ms. Zhong had no plan in her heart either. Her sleepless night was due to this worry.

“Qin’er, even if we end up homeless, I will risk everything to protect you and your sisters.”

“…Mother.”

The mother and daughter hugged each other, sobbing quietly so as not to wake those who were asleep.

……

After finishing her cultivation, Yan Xiaosi took a bath in the bathroom of the small house in the portable space. When she returned to the pitch-black broken house, she heard Ms. Zhong and Yan Shuqin crying. She clearly heard the secret that Ms. Zhong had just asked Yan Shuqin to keep, including the conversation they had.
