Please Spare Me A Tail [Apocalypse]

Lu Ye instantly became extremely panicked and cold sweat flooded him.

There was only one window, which was closed from the inside. He was sure that the door was locked. Due to the wind being so strong, he asked Bai Xiaohu to lock the door before leaving to prevent it from being blown open. Just now, he broke the door lock to come in.

So she should be in the house.

But now there is no one. Not to mention the person, the cat, and the chicken are not in the house either.

Especially in situations like this, the calmer he became, Bai Xiaohu was different. She was special. Disappearing out of thin air suddenly is possible if it was her. So after scanning the room, his first reaction was to pick up the flashlight on the ground, turn around shine it outside the house, and say to the people who followed him: “I’ll take care of here, please go and check other places.”

There was no light in the house. When he shone the flashlight, the people outside could not see the situation inside clearly in the backlight.

The horrible stench also prevented people from going any closer, so everyone immediately scattered.

Lu Ye didn’t care that there was still a constant stream of insects crawling at the door, and there were still many insects sticking to the wall outside. He closed the door and stayed in this room surrounded by insects. He turned around and checked the room with the light: “Xiaohu, are you there? Where are you?”

He checked under the table and the bed, but still couldn’t find her. The room was so small and there was not much furniture. In fact, the whole room was obvious at a glance, but he still looked carefully without giving up.

A flying insect flew to the back of his hand and bit him when he was unaware. He felt a tingling sensation. He pinched the soft insect with fleshy wings to death without hesitation. With a wave of his hand, all the insects on the ground and the wall were struck into ashes by lightning.

He stood still for two seconds and was about to go out and search for her. The next moment, three familiar breathings appeared in the room. He turned around suddenly and saw the little girl squatting on the bed, with a chicken on her head and a cat in her arms. She was still in shock and her face was pale.

He was overjoyed and walked over in a few steps.

Bai Xiaohu threw the cat away, jumped into his arms, and hugged him tightly, her voice trembling: “Lu Ye, it scared me to death, there are so many insects, so disgusting!” She was extremely disgusted just now, not really scared. The terrible visual was so shocking, her whole body bristled and her skin went goosebumps. After jumping onto the bed, she saw insects crawling under the door. She was almost going crazy, holding the cat and chicken and slipping into her spatial treasure as fast as she could.

After entering, she couldn’t help trembling.

She didn’t dare to recall that scene.

If Lu Ye hadn’t come in, she wouldn’t dare to come out. Lu Ye hugged her tightly, like a lost treasure, and stroked her hair: “It’s okay, it’s okay.”

Holding the solid, reliable, and powerful body, the fox gradually came back to life, but when she looked at the door, she almost went crazy again: “Ah, they are crawling in again!”

Lu Ye shone the light, the door was blown open by the wind, and there was a dense crowd of insects at the door again. Many even flew in, and because they were blown by the wind, their speed was even faster.

Lu Ye stretched out his hand, shocked all insects in sight, then picked up Bai Xiaohu, forming a delicate electric net around the two of them, and walked out.

The big white cat that got thrown on the bed meowed in panic, cats are also afraid of insects!

It looked at the ground, tossing back and forth, and didn’t dare to put its feet on any surface, so it had to jump hard, grab Lu Ye’s clothes on the back, and hang on him.

Lu Ye came out of the house with the three together, quickly went to an open space, jumped onto an empty car in two steps, and then put Bai Xiaohu down.

Bai Xiaohu also saw the appearance of her room. The front was burned by Lu Ye’s electric shock, but there were still countless insects crawling on the roof. It was not known whether it was because there were too many of them or because they found that the door below was open and they could enter from the door. They fell from the roof like rain.

Thinking that she had just stayed in a house surrounded by these insects, almost like being trapped in an insect nest, Bai Xiaohu’s face turned green: “Ancestors!” Her throat twitched, she covered her mouth and retched.

However, she looked down and saw countless insects breaking out of the ground below. Anywhere that was not covered by cement, there was almost no place to step. She almost suffocated. She buried herself in Lu Ye’s chest and closed her eyes to look at nothing.

“Why are there so many insects!” She wanted to enter the space again!

Lu Ye half hugged her and patted her back: “Don’t look, it’ll be fine if you don’t look.” His movements and tone were gentle, but his expression was extremely solemn. He raised his hand and released a series of electric nets, electrocuting all the insects on and under the house, and also those around the car. Then the smell of burning also made both of their faces change color, it stinks so bad.

In the night, there were exclamations and scoldings from various places, or flashes of fire, that were other people killing insects.

Lu Ye shouted: “Are there any earth-type or ice-type espers? Seal the ground first!”

Thank goodness, there were earth-type and ice-type espers among the people left behind, and they worked together to seal the ground of the military camp. Seeing that the ground was sealed with a layer of soil first, and then a layer of ice, no more insects continued to emerge. Lu Ye coaxed Bai Xiaohu: “There are no more insects, look.”

Bai Xiaohu saw it, her face looked better, and her whole body softened.

“Shall we get off?”

She nodded.

Lu Ye jumped down from the car roof first and helped Bai Xiaohu down. Bai Xiaohu stepped on the ice, stomped on it hard, and asked worriedly: “How long can this last?”

“…It won’t last too long.”

Bai Xiaohu looked miserable.

It was windy outside, Lu Ye took off his coat put it on her, and asked: “Is there anything special in your room?”

“What?” Bai Xiaohu asked confusedly.

Lu Ye explained: “Didn’t you notice these insects are heading for your room.”

Bai Xiaohu opened her mouth in surprise: “No, I didn’t do anything, and there’s nothing special in the room… Oh, I’m roasting a chicken, does that count? Oh, right, my chicken!”

She hurried to the house and stopped a few meters away. The ground was full of dead insects! She looked at the situation in the house and was stunned. The brazier in the room was still burning, and some of the surviving insects on the ground continued to persevere in crawling into the brazier. They crawled in fearlessly and then were burned with a sizzling sound exuding a strange stench.

One after another, all were like this. Are these insects crazy?

Bai Xiaohu was so frightened that she didn’t even have time to feel sad about her contaminated chicken.

Lu Ye also stared at it and shone the flashlight inside. Indeed, the target of these insects was the brazier.

There was a sound of footsteps, and other people gathered around and saw the scene in the room, all with solemn expressions.

The captain of the garrison was a young officer named Du Jing. He saw the situation in the brazier and couldn’t help but turn his head to look at Bai Xiaohu. There was inquiry and condemnation in his eyes. Bai Xiaohu felt he was looking at a strange and terrible person who was concocting poison.

She understood in a second that she was suspected! She glared back: “It wasn’t me, I just wanted to roast some food, this is a normal fire, I didn’t attract any insects.”

Du Jing said: “We checked, only the ground in the military camp has this situation, nowhere else, and these insects only crawl towards you.”

Bai Xiaohu was so angry that she wanted to argue with him, she was almost deformed by fear, okay? How could she deliberately create this situation?

Lu Ye patted her shoulder and told her to calm down. He said to Du Jing: “Captain Du, have you noticed? These insects look very strange.”

Du Jing took a closer look after his reminder, then frowned: “Yes, these are not normal insects, they are mutants?”

Lu Ye said: “Since the apocalypse, there have been many mutated animals, plants, fungi, etc., but they have not formed a scale and have not attracted attention. These insects tonight may be a warning.”

Lu Ye said slowly and calmly: “Warning of the arrival of the mutation tide, Captain Du, you’d better report this news immediately and let the people outside be careful.”

Du Jing stared at him for a long time with sharp eyes. Lu Ye responded calmly and seemed to have a peaceful attitude, but an invisible aura crushed Du Jing.

This aura did not rely on the strong superpowers to be imposing. In fact, Lu Ye did not use his superpowers, but a kind of momentum from himself.

Du Jing’s face changed slightly and he was defeated. Although Lu Ye’s words made sense, how could they be sure it was not Bai Xiaohu who did something to cause these insects to act like this? Bai Xiaohu has always been mysterious, and this is no longer a secret.

But even if he suspected it, he couldn’t say anything more. Bai Xiaohu has a special position with great achievements. The higher-ups have instructed that they must not disrespect her, and not to mention Lu Ye showing such an attitude.

He said, “I will report to the base immediately.”

Lu Ye said again, “If Captain Du doesn’t believe me, you can send a few people to dig in the ground outside to see if anything is abnormal in the soil.”

Du Jing glanced at him once more and nodded, “Thank you for reminding me.”

He walked away quickly with his men. Bai Xiaohu blinked and asked Lu Ye: “How do you know that there are such insects in the soil of other places?”

Lu Ye said: “Intuition, anyway, these insects are not created by you.”

“How do you know?”

“You are so afraid of these insects, how could you have created them?”

Bai Xiaohu hesitated for a moment and asked again: “What if I accidentally did something without knowing, turned it into this, and then scared myself to death?”

Lu Ye paused: “… There is such a possibility.”

Bai Xiaohu rolled her eyes and twisted his arm. “No such possibility, I didn’t make these insects.” She hugged her arms and stared at the howling wind in the night: “Do you smell it? I smelled a strong earthy smell before, and I thought it was an illusion. However, now I’m sensing it carefully, it’s not only in this place, but also in many places far away, there is a smell of earth, and it is getting heavier. Many things are moving underground.”

Thinking that the movements were all these messy insects crawling underground, and they would all crawl up when the time came, she shivered and felt itchy all over her body. She couldn’t help but rub the back of her hands and scratch the top of her head. Lu Ye also looked solemn: “I also feel something is wrong, if there are so many insects crawling out of the ground.” He looked at the palm that was bitten just now. It was swollen in such a short time. He squinted his eyes: “I am afraid this is a disaster more terrible than zombies.”

Bai Xiaohu was shocked when she saw the back of his hand: “You were bitten? When were you bitten?”

She took Lu Ye’s hand and shone it with a flashlight. The bite was on the ulnar side of the back of the palm. The swollen area was larger than a one-yuan coin. It was obviously protruding from the epidermis. It was red with blue-greenish, very creepy, and a little hot to the touch.

She hurriedly pulled him to squat down and released some spiritual spring water in her hand for him to wash his hands: “Does it hurt? Does it itch? Does it feel better if you wash it with this water?”

While releasing the water, she was also looking for something in the space that could be used as medicine. Seeing her anxious look, Lu Ye smiled and comforted her: “I’m okay, it’s just a little itchy and numb. I’m an esper, my physique has evolved, and this injury is nothing.”

“It numbs? Is it poisonous? How numb do you feel, the whole hand? Is the arm numb? Do you want to call a doctor? Damn insects, not only are they ugly, but they are also poisonous!”

Bai Xiaohu was no longer afraid of those insects. She would catch one and cut it into a thousand pieces. Seeing her worried and angry, with frowns and puffy cheeks, Lu Ye felt the bite was worth it.

He didn’t answer her question, but looked at the chicken on her head: “Why are you still lifting it on your head, aren’t you tired?”

He said as he tried to get it off like he had done many times before. But this time Bai Xiaohu hurriedly protected it with both hands: “No, no!”

Lu Ye was slightly surprised: “What’s wrong?”

Bai Xiaohu’s cheeks were a little red, and she protected the big chicken on her head: “No, you can’t take it down.”

Lu Ye looked at her blushing face in surprise, as if she was a little shy.

Bai Xiaohu looked at him, bit her lower lip, and looked around. There was no one else, so she leaned closer and whispered: “I’m only telling you, don’t tell anyone, and help me find a hat.”

Lu Ye nodded. Being close to her, as if they were about to share a little secret, he felt a sense of novelty and joy in his heart, but on the other hand, his curiosity reached its peak. It couldn’t be… bald?

Ahem, he quickly threw out the terrible idea that would make the little girl so angry that she would want to start a fight if she knew about it. It was fine in the evening. It couldn’t be that the hair was scared off by insects. Besides, the hair still looks very thick!

He looked at Bai Xiaohu’s hair hanging on her shoulders and thought.

Bai Xiaohu leaned close to his ear, a little shy, and said nervously: “My ears just popped out.”

Lu Ye was stunned and subconsciously looked at Bai Xiaohu’s ears.

Bai Xiaohu said: “Oh, it’s not this! It’s another pair of ears.” She put her hands under the belly of the big chicken demon, touched her flattened ears, and said sadly: “I was too scared just now, and the stimulation was too great. My ears popped out and I can’t take it back.”
