Eleanor then took out several small vials.
“This is a medicine that allows magical energy to flow better in the body. There are no side effects, so don’t worry.”
She popped the lid open and handed it to Estelle.
“The taste isn’t bad either.”
Estelle glanced once at Eleanor, Reina, and Damian before taking the medicine in one go.
“Then, just place your hand on this sphere and wait patiently. This sphere has the property of attracting magical power.”
“It looks like a magnet.”
“It’s a similar principle.”
When Estelle placed her hand on the transparent sphere, a flash of white light erupted from the sphere. At first, there was a pure white light, then it mixed with blue light and filled the transparent sphere, filling the entire room and blocking everyone’s vision.
“…Wha-what!”
“Estelle!”
Damian urgently called Estelle.
Crack.
The sound of the measuring sphere splitting was heard.
“Estelle, let go!”
Estelle was so surprised that she couldn’t take her hand off the measuring sphere and could only stare at it.
“Miss!”
Light emanated from the measuring sphere, and an enormous energy exploded in an aggressive manner.
Reina held Estelle close and fell away from the sphere. At the same time, the sphere shattered with a sharp cracking sound.
The measuring sphere broke and all light disappeared.
“Wow, wow… This is the first time I’ve seen a case like this in person. I never thought it could happen, but I’m actually witnessing it..”
Eleanor got up from her seat, drenched in cold sweat.
“Eleanor Beans, what is going on?”
“It’s absolutely not a terrorist attack or anything like that. Your Excellency, it’s just…”
Eleanor looked straight at Estelle in Reina’s arms with a frightened expression on her face.
“It seems that the young lady possesses an unprecedented talent. Be it magic, aura, or divine power. Since she is half of the Fineke bloodline, it can’t be divine power.”
“Miss, are you okay?”
Reina asked, comforting Estelle in her arms.
Estelle looked at the measuring instrument in pieces on the desk.
“What should we do now that it’s broken? It wasn’t cheap, was it?”
The child was more worried about the cost of the measuring instrument than about her own body. Damian looked at Estelle and frowned slightly.
“We can demand a thousand pieces like this if you want.”
“Hahaha, I’m just glad no one got hurt.”
“But…”
Estelle looked at Reina, who was hugging her tightly, and Bonita standing behind her.
“Weren’t Reina and Bonnie also going to be measured?”
“Miss, we’re okay.”
“…”
Estelle’s face twisted with guilt.
Eleanor chuckled softly and cleared her throat.
“Don’t worry everyone!”
And voila, she took out a small measuring sphere from her bag.
“I brought an extra spare just in case something like this happens. Its a good thing I was prepared for this~”
Damian looked at her with a bewildered expression.
“So, you predicted this situation.”
“Well, doesn’t Your Excellency possess extraordinary power? If Your Excellency’s power was magic rather than Aura, you would have already united the Magic Tower with your power.”
“Then what about Estelle?”
“Just like your Excellency, this is also powerful enough to unify the Magic Tower with magical power.”
“Wouldn’t it be enough to completely unify the Magic Tower? The results are much greater than when your Excellency did it. It’s amazing. I don’t think it would do any good to let this result be known elsewhere. Half of the people will be keeping it in check, and the other half will be trying to get breadcrumbs…”
Eleanor placed the measuring sphere on the table and gestured to Reina.
“Shall we put this matter aside for now…?”
Reina also drank the medicine that Estelle drank earlier.
“Doesn’t it suit your taste? It probably doesn’t taste like anything you like.”
“Um, I just feel a little nauseous. It’s okay. I guess it’s because I’ve had a bit of trouble sleeping recently.”
“Well, that’s a good thing. Now, put your hand on the measuring instrument like the lady did earlier.”
Reina nodded her head and placed her hand on the measuring sphere.
“…”
“…”
“Is it weird?”
But there was no change whatsoever.
“Th-this isn’t broken, is it? I’m sure I checked it myself before bringing it here, right?”
Eleanor fussed and checked to see if there were any cracks in the measuring instrument, but there wasn’t a single crack.
Eleanor sighed softly.
“It is natural for an imperial citizen to have magical powers, but Mrs. Reina Borton, do you have any secrets regarding your birth?”
“There is no such thing as a birth secret.”
“Why aren’t you responding? The probability of not having magical power is about one in eighty million. It’s not like it’s rare, it’s unprecedented…”
Eleanor muttered that she saw a lot of special cases today. And she saw Bonita next to her mom.
“Perhaps your daughter…?”
“Ah, I’m sure Bonnie has magical powers. Bonnie activated all the magic tools in our house. Isn’t that right, Bonnie?”
“Yes.”
“So Reina Borton is indeed a unique case. Have you never been ill as a child?”
“No.”
Reina shook her head.
“Living in the Empire will be difficult if you don’t have any magic power. Later, I will tell you the ingredients of a medicine that can help enhance magic power. There are some new supplies coming in recently, but there’s a famous saying that ‘old is gold’.”
Eleanor looked at Reina with her subtly embarrassed expression and then turned her gaze towards Bonita.
“Now it’s the little lady’s turn. Bonnie was it?”
Bonita hesitantly approached the table, drank the medicine just like the two did earlier, and touched her mouth.
“…oh.”
When Bonita touched the sphere with her hand, unlike Reina, a faint blue light began to hover within the orb. Even with that level of reaction from Reina, it was relieved that Bonita wasn’t like her. But that was the end of it.
Unlike Estelle, a very, very weak light flashed once and then went out with a flick.
“…”
Bonita stared at the measuring instrument, which was no longer responding, for a long time. Bonita couldn’t keep her hands off her measuring sphere.
No one could tell the child to stop. Especially since Reina and Damian knew what Bonita’s dream was, they couldn’t look at the scene indifferently.
Eleanor had already figured out what Bonita aspired to become, based on the previous conversation.
“Reina Borton, could we have a conversation outside for a moment?”
“Yes.”
Eleanor and Reina stepped outside . Dean was waiting there.
“Reina Borton, do you remember what I told you earlier? I told you to hang on to your dreams if there’s a chance.”
Reina lowered her gaze and shook her head. Eleanor also seemed not to want to say this, she spoke slowly.
“That means it’s even more miserable to hang on if there’s no possibility.”
“But…”
“She is young, so of course she can dream now. But, Reina Borton, I know how miserable it is to cling to a dream that has no possibility.”
“Should I tell her to give up already?”
“You have to talk with her about her dreams before they get bigger. The bigger it gets, the more painful it will be.”
Reina bit her lip hard in distress.
“Maybe because she is young, her dreams may change from time to time. Perhaps now it’s just a fleeting dream of wielding a sword.”
“You can become a great swordsman even without being an Auror.”
At that moment Dean intervened.
“I’m sorry for interrupting your conversation. However, not all knights need to use aura. So…”
Eleanor cut Dean off abruptly.
“That child is a girl.”
“Yes?”
“She is a woman. If she doesn’t have better condition than others, there’s no need to choose her”
Completely erasing the playful demeanor she had shown in the drawing room earlier, Eleanor spoke of reality with a very serious and painful expression.
“Why would you hire a woman when there are so many male knights with the same skills? It’s only been 80 years since the Magic Tower began to change. Even now, after 80 years, it’s still full of prejudice. What about the Knights?”
…Dean looked devastated.
Eleanor added.
“Reina Borton, there are many other things in the world. Things you can do without being exceptionally talented…”
Such things happened. Reina lowered her head and listened to Eleanor describe the cruel reality.
“…Does one inherit magical powers from their parents?”
“I can’t say it’s entirely impossible.”
Reina looked down at her hands, which were trembling slightly.
‘If she weren’t my daughter, she wouldn’t have had to face such a harsh reality.’
Of all things, it had to be her child who had no magic at all.
“How can that medicine that Eleanor mentioned not solve the problem?”
“That potion only enhances magic slightly. If it dramatically increased the amount of magic power, everyone in the empire would have wanted to make and consume that medicine every day.”
“Is there really no other way?”
“No. Magic power is innate. It cannot be changed.”
Reina felt more miserable with Bonita’s results than with her own results.
“You know that saying? Parents are the mirror of their children. Eventually, your daughter will grow up just like you!”
Those words she heard then became sharp shards, stabbing Reyna’s heart incessantly. This recent outcome seemed to confirm it — evidence that Bonita would live a life similar to hers.
