Please Save My Child

CHAPTER 056

Perhaps because he knew many people in this mansion, the tall man wearing shabby clothes greeted everyone warmly.

“It looks like he got here quickly. Well, I guess he wanted to say thanks to His Excellency this time.”

“If he wanted to thank His Highness, does it have something to do with the Count Pentail family?”

“Yes, that person was a critic of Pentail.”

“So there is a faction opposing the Pentail family.”

“Well, it’s because he’s taking a path that is completely contradictory to the magic he used to have.”

While listening to Peter, Reina looked towards him again and discovered something.

“The young lady and Bonnie came out first.”

“I guess so.”

Reina couldn’t go directly to the children because of the crowd in front of her. She tried to raise her voice to get out of the way, but she couldn’t because she thought everyone would be watching.

The mage looked at Estelle and Bonita and approached the two children with a bright expression.

“Oh my god! They said they found the princess, and it was true! But were there twins? As far as I know, only one was born.”

He looked at Estelle and Bonita alternately, then picked Bonita up in his arms and smiled brightly.

“You are such a lovely person, just like the lady!”

“Oh, no, over there…”

…At the same time, the atmosphere became cold.

“What are you doing?”

In the silence, Damian came down the stairs in a moment. And as soon as he appeared, everyone got out of the way.

The mage looked at him and smiled brightly.

“Your Excellency the Duke, it’s been a while since I’ve seen you! Rather than saying thank you, I should first congratulate you! Congratulations on finding the two princesses.”

“I only have one daughter.”

“What?”

Damian made a bewildered expression when he saw the pink-haired little lady hugging him.

“That child looks nothing like me or my wife. Why are you calling her my daughter?”

The mage looked at Bonita in his arms. Bonita was unable to understand the situation and was shaking helplessly.

He looked at Bonita and then at Damien with a puzzled expression.

“I… I’m sorry, lady.”

He then put down Bonita and this time picked up Estelle.

“I need to get my glasses adjusted. It was a mistake since we met for the first time.”

This time Estelle looked at him with a puzzled expression. The person smiled brightly and spun around a few times while holding Estelle in his arms.

“The child is dizzy.”

Damian looked at him with a straight face and snatched Estelle from his arms.

Estelle was held in Damien’s arms with her hair tangled here and there.

“I really wanted to come sooner. I heard earlier that there was also an artifact incident? Please show me later. It’s hard to see ancient things in real life…”

He chattered and asked Damian various questions, showing off his one-sided friendliness.

“By the way. Sir, if that lady is not your daughter, then who is she? Are you the princess’s playmate?”

“Well, if it’s a friend, you should call her friend.”

“Chi, she is my friend, Dad.”

“She is a friend.”

The mage looked at Bonita, who was speechless and hesitant.

He had a slightly puzzled expression, but his eyes did not contain any hostility.

“What family…?”

“Rather than a noble family, she is the daughter of a maid who takes care of Estelle.”

“…She’s not Maid, she’s Reina. She’s very kind.”

“Aha…”

He looked around at the people standing around him and walked forward with his eyes fixed on one side.

“…”

“…?”

“That’s interesting.”

The place where he stopped was right in front of Reina. The mage must have somehow discovered Reina who was far behind, so he walked up to her, stared at her, and muttered.

“Is it possible to be this vague and have no presence?”

“…”

“People who see you for the first time won’t even remember you.”

“Excuse me…”

“It’s my first time seeing a living person look like such an empty shell.”

He mumbled audibly to himself and looked at Reina carefully.

“Why are there so many strange people?”

Reina stiffened and looked at the person in front of her.

Then, somewhere, there was a bang! A voice yelled, “Don’t bother my mom!”

“…Huh?”

Bonita looked up at the mage with tears in her eyes.

“My mom is very pretty. Don’t say that to her!”

“…Is the lady’s mother… this person?”

Inspector Eleanor looked at Bonita with a devastated face. He looked at Damian, expressionless, standing behind him.

Estelle, who was in Damian’s arms, was also looking at him with angry eyebrows.

Damian said.

“This is Reina Borton. She is Estelle’s lifesaver, and she is the maid in charge of Estelle.”

…He stood silently for a long time without saying anything, then turned around and looked at Reina. And he bowed to her as politely as possible.

“It’s an honor to meet you… ma’am.”

* * *

In the drawing room.

A total of five people were sitting on long sofas placed side by side.

Estelle and Bonita were held in Reina’s arms, their eyes narrowed as they looked at the person in front of her.

Master Eleanor said with a grin.

“Nice to meet you. My name is Eleanor Beans. Please call me Elen.”

“My name is Reina Borton. My daughter’s name is Bonita Borton.”

Reina nodded her head. As she said hello, she suddenly felt a strange feeling and asked the mage.

“I’m sorry if I’m rude, but are you a woman…?”

“Haha. I hear that question a lot.”

Eleanor pointed to herself proudly.

“I’m biologically a woman!”

“Aha…”

“I’m sorry I vacated the mansion. I wanted to come back quickly, but the old men were so angry. This is why people who are overflowing with talent and stand out are a problem. Because I stood out so much. I cast a spell to reduce awareness. If I wear that, my presence will diminish a little.”

“Ah…”

“Of course, the effects of that magic vary depending on the person casting it, but I’m pretty good at it. Still, I couldn’t hide my talent.”

Eleanor giggled and took out colorful candies that children would like from her leather bag. Animals were drawn inside the candy.

“In the end, these are the only snacks I could bring. I bought a lot of things to give to the lady, but since the day was postponed, they got all moldy.”

Still, she divided the number of candies perfectly in half and gave one half to Estelle and the other half to Bonita.

“Actually, I just stopped by for a moment. His Excellency kept sending me letters saying that I needed to measure magic power. After this measurement, I have to go to the Magic Tower. I’m a bit busy.”

As Reina listened to her explanation, her questions arose.

“There’s a difference between a witch and a wizard, right?”

“Yes, what I mainly do is measure a person’s magic power or find out the amount of magic power remaining in the magic stone at the magic stone mine. There are many other things, but there is no need to give lengthy and difficult explanations that the general public will not understand.”

After speaking, Eleanor grinned and took out a round transparent sphere and placed it in the center of the table.

“This is a measuring instrument. Shall we start with the princess and the young lady?”

Reina couldn’t hide her curiosity and looked at the sphere she was seeing for the first time.

“How does this work?”

She just asked a question, and Eleanor’s eyes sparkled.

“That’s a really good question. It was first invented exactly 286 years ago. At that time, most wizards specialized in destruction or combat. At that time, the profession of magician did not even exist. So they could only determine the destructive power of nature. I couldn’t read it, but the famous Pentail family developed this measuring ball 60 years ago, and the history of wizards has been around since then.”

“Eight years later, I got a job as a mage surveyor. They are more astute than others at reading magic. It’s usually difficult to read other people’s magical power. Each person’s temperament is different, and it’s even more difficult to read if you have a unique constitution.”

Reina was sweating in front of Eleanor, who was mumbling to herself, and then looked at Damien, asking for help.

Damian spoke without looking at Reina.

“Eleanor Beans, do it in moderation.”

“Your Excellency is too cold-hearted.”

“It’s better than spouting out stories that others don’t care about.”

Eleanor looked at Reina in front of her and she let out a sigh of relief.

“…Anyway, it can read magic power. It can read not only magical power but also witch power.”

Bonita asked in response to the following explanation.

“Can Aurors be read too?”

“Hmm, I don’t know. It can probably read it, but it’s impossible to distinguish it from magical power.”

“Why?”

“Nothing has been accurately determined yet. Some say that magical power, aura, and divine power have somewhat similar principles. Because they have something in common: the power given by Bendysion. Considering that there is a distinction between witch power and magical power, that guess makes a lot of sense. Witch power is Finecke’s own power.”

Eleanor thought for a moment.

“Well, it will be resolved when the young master of Pentail wakes up this time. Are you interested in Aurors? Do you want to use a sword?”

“Yes. Is it strange?”

“It’s not strange at all. It was my dream to become the leader of the magic tower.”

Eleanor grinned, expressing herself at her child’s level.

“You don’t have any strange dreams, young lady. If there’s a chance, it’s not a bad idea to try.”

I really like how Elen treats both kids equally and talks to them on their own level. It reminds me of a series where the MC hired a therapist experienced with children to treat trauma. Also himts that the two are as good as sisters to unclouded eyes.

The person who is said to have very little presence found someone with even less? I wonder what the sphere will reveal? Other than very bad eyesight, I wonder why Elen thought that Bonita was Damien’s child.
