Obsessed with Regressors

CHAPTER 29.2

At that moment, the noble Lady Biscon’s voice appeared in Claire’s mind.

– You could have been a knight.

Elliot laughed when he saw Claire’s expression as if she had been stabbed in the back. That was when the assassin broke into the throne room. Elliot immediately ran over, but for a brief moment, Claire protected the noble Lady Biscon from the assassin’s sword. With just that one move, she realized that Claire had learned swordsmanship and that she had talent.

“He, then…”

“I can take on a decent knight on my own.”

She was not an ordinary person, but an ordinary knight. Claire’s mouth dropped open at the unexpected words. On the outside, Eugenie looked like she would be scared of even seeing blood, let alone the sword. She is a gentle and quiet girl with pale skin. However, Eugenie could take on one or two knights on her own. If only she had a sword in her hand.

Elliot chuckled at Claire’s surprised expression. She wouldn’t have believed it if she hadn’t seen him and helped him.

“But, but, why…”

Elliot’s laughter stopped as he realized why Claire couldn’t continue her sentence. Why? His expression disappeared.

“You know.”

Elliot said in an emotionless voice. But it was a voice that seemed to come from beneath the ground.

She knew.

Claire bit her lip. know. The noble Lady Biscon knew why. Because of Count Biscon. Her only blood relative. Her last family, whom she loved the most.

“Claire, Elliot. Do you want some cake? I heard the chef baked a cake…”

What broke the dark atmosphere was the voice of Eugenie, who popped her head into her living room holding stationery and a pen. Claire quickly turned her head and wiped away her tears. And she asked Elliot as if nothing had happened.

“What cake is it?”

What? Realizing that the atmosphere was unusual, Eugenie looked at the two people in turns and then came inside. She then looked back at Claire and asked.

“What happen?”

“Oh, that’s…”

She didn’t know what to say. Elliot spoke on behalf of the embarrassed Claire.

“Lord Lannon was wondering where you learned swordsmanship.”

“Ah, Sir Escalee.”

Eugenie stuck her head out of the drawing room again and asked for her cake to be brought to her, then she returned to her seat. And she stopped to lift the teacup. Before she knew it, Elliot was pouring tea into her cup.

“I learned together with Oliver.”

In fact, Oliver’s skills were not very good. Sir Escalee clicked his tongue and said that it would be better for Oliver to practice running rather than swordsmanship.

“Then do Lord Escalee and Baron Biscon know that you are good with a sword?”

Eugenie frowned as she thought for a moment in response to Claire’s question. Of course her parents know. Maybe Julia knew too.

“Maybe people who worked there from back then know.”

Vix, the butler, would know, but she might remember. And then she also had a couple of boys with whom Eugenie sparred, but she may have forgotten.

“Why didn’t I know?”

Eugenie looked at Elliot in confusion at Claire’s next question. Why didn’t Claire know that Eugenie was good with a sword? That’s because the two didn’t know each other. But what Claire was asking was for a different reason.

“You have considerable skills, right? With that level of skill, rumors would have spread throughout the capital.”

If the young lady of the Biscon family had the skills to deal with a knight, then naturally the rumor would have spread. Even if nobles were not interested, she should have been famous among knights.

However, no one knew of Eugenie’s swordsmanship skills. Even in the Knights of the White Lion, when a rumor spread that Lord Psylocke was hit by Eugenie and broke her arm, everyone did not believe her. Some people said that the reason Psylocke’s arm was broken was because she hit something and that Lady Biscon happened to be nearby.

“Hmm.”

Eugenie thought for a moment what to say. Half the time she even hid it on purpose. The Countess of Biscon caught Oliver and warned him not to go around talking about her brother’s swordsmanship skills. But even if she hadn’t done that, she wouldn’t have boasted about Oliver. Because it’s quite a bit of a blow to one’s pride.

“I thought troublesome things would happen.”

Eugenie thanked the servant who brought in her cake just in time, then picked up her fork. It looks like the chef quickly cooked it when the guests arrived.

“Is it a bother?”

Eugenie wrinkled the bridge of his nose at Claire’s question. The heir of a family she had been sparring with didn’t want to admit that she had lost to a girl a year younger than her. So she tried to fight her until she won.

She once even tried to push Eugenie down as she passed by.

“I heard there were a lot of people who wanted to see her skills.”

What Eugenie remembers was her father’s friend. One day, her father’s friend suddenly visited her mansion and told Eugenie, who came down to greet her, that she wanted to see your skills. When the Countess saw that, she became furious.

“It’s either curiosity or suspicion.”

Eugenie nodded her head at Elliot’s words. She was curious about how much a girl like this would swing her sword. She wonders what on earth she did to win over boys older than her.

“My mother decided it wasn’t going to be of much help to my life.”

Eugenie agrees with her. It’s not a good thing to have a reputation for being good with a sword, unless she makes a living with it.

“Don’t you know?”

Claire, who had been listening blankly to Eugenie’s question, paused. Yes. She knew what Eugenie was talking about.

“After I became a knight, there was suddenly someone who challenged me.”

This was true both internally and externally to the Knights. Not only the same knights but also people who were not knights but used weapons also attacked.

“Elliot knows too.”

Eugenie looked back at Elliot and smiled. He smiled along with that smile without even realizing it. And then she twitched her lips and said,

“I was fine. It’s a bit annoying, but it’s not an article.”

Those who actually attacked Elliot were broken at least in one place. That increased Elliot’s notoriety.

Moreover, as word spread that there was no mercy in Elliot’s hands, those who attacked him disappeared. Claire and Eugenie cannot be treated so cruelly due to their personalities and positions, so as long as rumors spread, people will continue to attack them.

“Anyway, that’s why I’m not revealing it. Besides, Sir Escalee also said that it would be better not to lift the sword.”

Claire’s face distorted when she heard that Sir Escale had told her not to lift her sword. That person deserves it. Eugenie quickly waved her hand and said to her who was thinking that.

“Oh, it’s not the reason Claire thinks.”

“Isn’t it?”

“Yes. It’s because I’m not suited to holding a sword.”

She didn’t know what that meant. Elliot said to Claire, who was confused.

“That’s because you’re kind.”

What did this mean again? A surprised Claire and an even more surprised Eugenie looked at Elliot. Elliot said, lifting his teacup.

“I’m worried that the other person will get hurt.”

“I just don’t like blood.”

Claire’s eyes narrowed at Eugenie’s words. Eugenie says she doesn’t hate blood. To be precise, she is not afraid of getting hurt herself.

“You don’t want other people to get hurt.”

Why didn’t she know? She recalled her staying up all night crying in her bedroom after hearing that half her unit had been killed during the war. Before that, she heard something loudly breaking. At first, she thought Claire, like everyone else, was angry that the noble Lady Biscon had lost. But as time passed, she found out. She couldn’t forgive someone for getting hurt because of her.

“It’s not like that. I just don’t want to get hurt.”

Eugenie said, shaking her hand. When Sir Escalee saw Eugenie hesitate for fear of hurting her opponent, he said he was soft. She accused the boy she sparred with of being a hypocrite. She just didn’t want anyone getting hurt. It was so horrible that she got hurt by her own hands.

That was one of the reasons why she didn’t lift her sword.

“Miss.”

Then the butler knocked on the parlor door and stuck his head in. And she asked cautiously:

“Sorry for disturbing you. The doctor came.”

A doctor visited Oliver to treat him. Eugenie apologized to Elliot and Claire and stood up.

“If you just don’t want others to get hurt, I guess spreading rumors isn’t such a bad thing.”

Claire said, just the two of us again. Are you talking to me? She said, noting that Elliot was impressed by the frequency with which she spoke to him.

“But there’s no need to spread the word.”

It’s not nice for Eugenie to be the center of unnecessary attention. As she said, the number of people who would try to harass her with curiosity and suspicion would increase.

“But wouldn’t Lady Biscon respect her more if her people knew that her swordsmanship was great?”

Elliot’s lips twitched at Claire’s point. When a seemingly ordinary person stands out in a certain field, people’s perspectives definitely change.

But was that really a good thing?

“Lady Biscon is someone to be respected even without her swordsmanship skills. She doesn’t have to prove herself to her idiots who don’t respect her.”
