Obsessed with Regressors

CHAPTER 28.4

“If you are missing, it would be best to contact the magistrate.”

“That’s the problem.”

She shook her head at Elliot’s advice. What should she do next? She quickly stepped back and then went to the right and clapped her hands.

“This happens often. It’s from a different family.”

She went back to Elliot and continued the story. It often happens that unmarried men of Oliver’s age do not return home for several days. It was said that most people drink to the point of intoxication at a bar and wake up in a motel room. Of course, the wallet disappeared or was empty. She had heard men say things like that a few times as if they were military honors. But that’s not what her mother was worried about.

“Sometimes people are found in a bit of a bad place.”

Elliot raised an eyebrow when he heard that it was a bad place. She wrinkled her nose and slowly walked around in a circle, putting her hand on his shoulder and explaining. Although they lump it all together as just a bad place, the situations vary. In some cases, they were found in drug dens or illegal gambling dens. There were also cases where he was involved in minor crimes. Although there may be light and heavy crimes, there were cases where people participated in smuggling while drunk. It was said that people were usually caught secretly bringing in one or two bottles of foreign cigarettes or alcohol.

When you get drunk, do you suddenly gain courage?

“It’s not about being brave, it’s about being stupid.”

She paused for a moment at Elliot’s cold words and then burst into laughter. That’s right. They said that her mother and she were being cruel. But yeah. He was right about becoming stupid.

“In those cases, the fines are quite high. But more problematic than fines is spreading rumors.”

If it’s a teenager doing it, they say they’re too young and don’t know what’s going on, but if Oliver does it, they’ll ask him if he’s still out of his mind even though he’s older.

“I guess the Countess is worried that Baron Biscon might get caught up in a bad rumor?”

Surprisingly, Elliot knew exactly who was worried about what. She tried to reflexively say no, but he silenced her.

He’s right. Her mother is worried that Oliver would get caught up in bad rumors. She was afraid that would have a bad influence on Oliver getting married. And she is afraid that she will go further and tarnish the Biscon. From another perspective, if we know first and intervene, we can take Oliver out before it escalates. What this means is that Oliver might not get punished.

“The fines can be scary.”

Elliot chuckled at her words. He immediately changed his expression and asked.

“Excuse me, Countess, but don’t you consider the possibility that Baron Biscon is injured?”

There was that possibility. It was possible that he got into an accident or something and got hurt. If he’s seriously injured, so he can’t reveal who he is, he might not be able to come back. But for now, her mother and she ruled out that possibility. She stopped in her tracks, following the people around her. And then she took a step away from Elliot.

Immediately afterwards, people applauded enthusiastically. It was a kind of courtesy shown to one’s partner after the music had ended. We clapped our hands at each other and walked side by side to the edge of the hall.

“I think mother doesn’t want to think about that possibility as much as possible.”

She didn’t even let people talk about things like that. It’s ominous. Of course, neither she nor Vix could sit still. She added as Elliot placed his hand on her outstretched arm.

“And I contacted every hospital in Current.”

Nowhere did she get an answer that a man who looked like Oliver was not hospitalized. Then there was only one thing left. There was a possibility that Oliver was causing or had caused an accident that would worry her mother.

“Where was Baron Biscon last seen?”

Elliot then asked seriously. It was a rowing club three days ago. After practice, Oliver said he was going to the High Hat Club. But the high hat club said he didn’t go there.

“I will also look into it. But…”

“I know.”

Elliot was about to give advice, so she stopped and interrupted him. Just in case, he guessed she needed to be more active in looking for Oliver. She thought so too. However, her mother seemed to want to reject the very assumption that Oliver may be in danger.

“I already told Lord Escalee.”

Lord Escalee was unofficially searching for Oliver’s whereabouts. And he said that if her brother didn’t come back by tomorrow morning, he would be officially listed as missing and they would look for him.

“That’s not it.”

Elliot sighed softly and then he said.

“I was just trying to tell you that I can’t find it either.”

That’s right. She also didn’t think Elliot would solve anything. Oliver was their family member and he had to take care of their own affairs at their house. She may have been tarnishing the family’s reputation just by telling Elliot that Oliver wasn’t coming home. To put it in an extreme way.

“Furthermore…”

Elliot continued, leading her towards the terrace again.

“No one cares more about Baron Biscon than you and the Countess. Other people’s words are just nonsense.”

What an idiot. She narrowed her eyes at Elliot’s use of language, then chuckled. Sometimes his harsh consolation worked well.

“Thank you.”

She went out to the terrace and put her hand on the fence to say hello. Thanks to Elliot, she felt much better. Of course, she didn’t think anything big had happened to Oliver. This stupid brother was probably lying down drunk at a friend’s house or engrossed in a card game and doesn’t even know that the time has come.

About half of it. The remaining half of her mind was consumed by fear that something had happened to Oliver. Her fear grew when she was home alone with her mother. So much so that she felt restless.

“Nothing will happen.”

Elliot spoke softly and stood quietly next to her. When she was at home, her mind, which was anxious and confused, became a little calmer.

“Biscon?”

At that time, she heard someone shouting in surprise from the other side of the fence. She? She was startled and looked towards the direction where the sound came from. Were they talking to her? It was her last name. But the men weren’t looking this way. Rather, it seemed like he didn’t know that Elliot and she were on the terrace.

“Really?”

“Oh, that’s right? Do you know any doctors? He’s a big-mouthed bastard.”

“What is his condition? He is not going to die, is he?”

Horrible stories flowed from the men’s mouths. What was the story? It was dark so she couldn’t see the men’s faces clearly. If one of them hadn’t shouted in surprise, she wouldn’t have even known the two men were there.

“No, not dying. That’s not it…”

The man’s voice became quiet again. Oh, could he speak a little louder? She looked back at Elliot and he shook his head slightly. She guessed it meant don’t get too close.

“Lord Psylocke so…”

A few familiar words came out through the intermittent voices. Lord Psylocke knew. She looked back at Elliot and he put his index finger on his lips and gestured for her to stay still. And he entered the building without making a sound. To get to where the men were, he had to jump over the fence. If he did that, the men might notice him, so he seemed to be trying to turn that way.

She listened to the men again while waiting for Elliot to show up.

“Shouldn’t you let me know?”

“What? Where?”

Now the men began to argue lightly. The next moment, a large shadow suddenly appeared.

Where on earth did it come from? Even though it was that big, she didn’t even see Elliot come out of the building. He moved quickly and silently, like a shadow.

“Ugh!”

Elliot must have approached them and said something. The men who were fighting frantically screamed. And then they started running away.

Huh? She was startled and clung to the fence. She couldn’t miss those people, right?

Fortunately, Elliot caught one of the fleeing men. The other one ran away, but the remaining one seemed to be grabbed by the neck by Elliot. But then, the body of the man Elliot was holding collapsed.

“Elliot!”

She quickly called out to Elliot and leaned over the fence. Elliot, who looked down at the fallen man for a moment, shook his head and approached her. And he looked up at her from under the hedge and he said.

“Stay there. The grass gets wet and your clothes get ruined.”

Did that matter now? She asked, leaning over the fence.

“What about that man? What happened?”

Elliot’s gaze turned to the fallen man. They said the grass was wet, but he was lying down on the grass.

“I think he passed out.”

What? She was impressed by the incredible story. Then Elliot smiled and said.

“Sometimes there are people like that.”

“You mean he just passed out for no reason?”

“It’s not like there’s no reason. Because he was surprised.”

He was so shocked that he fainted. Huh. She looked at the fallen man again and asked Elliot.

“Do you know someone of the group?”

Apparently not. He shook his head and asked her in reverse.

“Did you have anything to say that might be helpful?”

Elliot appeared to be asking what she heard before he left the mansion. She recalled the conversations between men that she heard intermittently. They found a doctor with a heavy mouth and asked if he was dying. The man who ran away said no.

“I think it has something to do with Oliver.”

Elliot silently nodded his head at her words. She spoke again with a frown.

“And Lord Psylocke.”
