Obsessed with Regressors

CHAPTER 28.2

Oliver did not return that evening. The butler asked the club manager and came back with the answer that Oliver had not come to the club.

“What should I do?”

She frowned at Vix’s question. He said he hadn’t seen him for two or three days. Surely he wasn’t drunk and sleeping at some gambling den? She believed that her brother was not that stupid. When he was nineteen, Oliver went into a gambling club out of curiosity and came back after being scolded harshly. At that time, he lost all of his life savings. He had been saving up that allowance because he wanted to buy a carriage. The good news is that Oliver came to his senses. As far as she knew, Oliver didn’t even pay attention to the gambling table. Although he does play card games with friends once or twice a week.

“To my mother…”

“I haven’t notified her yet.”

That meant that Vix also thought this situation was unusual. She asked in confusion.

“What about his friends’ houses? Sir Ryan…”

“You met today, right?”

It was like that. His friend Sir Ryan came to see her a few hours ago. If Oliver had been at his house, he would have talked.

“What about other friends?”

“I sent someone. But they said Lord Foster or Mr. Smith hasn’t seen him lately either.”

“What about adjustments?”

There was also a rowing club. A place that Oliver visits almost every day, just like the club. The butler shook his head and said.

“Actually, that’s where I first got the call. They said Master missed last practice.”

“Without words?”

Yes. At the butler’s answer, she sank down in her chair. If this happens, they’ve checked all the places Oliver might go. Where on earth did they go? A bad thought came into her head. At that time, her mother stuck her head out through the open door and asked.

“Eugenie, are you ready?”

“Yes?”

It’s her mom. She was so startled that she almost jumped. Then, her mother, who came inside with a strange expression, found Vix and asked.

“Vix? What are you doing here?”

“Oh, that’s…”

“I’m hungry.”

She quickly intervened. She still hasn’t decided if she should tell her mother that Oliver was missing.

“Are you hungry?”

Her mother’s eyes widened. She rolled her eyes and said.

“Uh, yes. I was wondering if I should eat something since I was going to dance later, so I was asking Vix if he wanted something to eat.”

“Well, I told you to have more dinner.”

Her mother’s face became stern. She said that because she ate a quick dinner earlier. But if you’re going to dance, you should eat light. She always felt sick after dancing in a crowded hall.

“I’ll tell them to bring you a sandwich.”

Mother said and left her room. ‘Oh my god.’ She put her hand on her chest and sighed. Then Vix asked with an expression as if he was going to be okay.

“I don’t have an appetite.”

“It’s okay. Let’s take a bite, okay?”

Or she could pretend to eat it, hide it, and leave it in Oliver’s room. Then Oliver came in at dawn… After thinking that far, she sighed again. What really happened?

“Eugenie.”

Elliot was standing at the bottom of the stairs. Because he was her partner at the ball this evening. She was originally supposed to go with Lord Heinz, but he fell and sprained his ankle yesterday or something. Thankfully, when she contacted him to ask if he could go to the prom with her, Elliot came right away. If it’s another invitation, she could go with her mother or Julia, but for the prom, she had to go with a man. She already sent a reply to the organizer saying she was taking her partner with her.

If you go alone on the day, the organizer will be in trouble. Because the gender ratio was not right.

But it’s strange. Sir Ryan, who was supposed to go to a concert with her last time, also canceled his appointment because he hurt his foot. At that time, he went with his mother. Could it be that there is some sort of curse placed on her? It’s like a curse that brings bad luck to men who court her. She asked Elliot while imagining something crazy.

“Did you wait long?”

“I just arrived.”

Elliot said and held out her arm. When she gave him a questioning look, he said:

“It’s dangerous, so come down slowly.”

She wondered if this man saw her as a child or a grandmother. Even after this, when she was young, she once slipped down the staircase handrail with Oliver. Oh, of course, her mother almost fainted when she saw that.

“It’s not dangerous.”

How many years has she lived in this house? Despite her words that she was okay, Elliot came up the stairs and held her hand. It’s really okay. More than anything, she was concerned that she hadn’t put on his gloves yet. She was in a hurry to come out when she heard that Count Burns had already arrived and was waiting for her, so her glove was still in her left hand.

Elliot discovered that too.

“It’s okay if you come out slowly.”

“I’m sorry if I made you wait.”

It was an urgent request because a problem suddenly arose with Sir Heinz, but Elliot willingly came out. So she was sorry for keeping him waiting. He took the gloves from her hands and opened them so that it would be easier for her to put them on.

“It’s okay. I like waiting for you.”

“Is it okay to wait?”

Wasn’t it boring? If it’s your first time going, it might be okay. All you have to do is spend time looking around. But Elliot came to this house several times. To be honest, she thought he could find his way to the drawing room on the first floor with his eyes closed.

“It’s as much as you want, as long as you come.”

Elliot said that, looked at her, and smiled. At the same time, his fingers touched her hand. A smile like that was against the law.

She sighed involuntarily. This man seemed like he could seduce any woman in the world if he wanted to. It felt a bit absurd to hope that such a man would like her.

“Why are you doing that?”

Elliot asked. He was now putting the other glove on her. She asked a little grumpily, trying to be honest.

“What if I don’t come?”

An expression appeared on his face asking what he was talking about.

“They said you can wait for me as long as I come. What if I don’t come?”

What if she didn’t plan on marrying Elliot until I die? To be honest, she didn’t even know herself. Elliot was a good person and he helped her a lot. He probably liked her. But rather than marrying someone, she wanted to prove that she could live on her own. To herself. What if she had to prove it for the rest of her life? So what if she has to postpone marriage forever? What if she didn’t make Elliot wait because she wanted to, but what if the situation continued like that? Maybe she should tell him.

In the back of my mind, she heard a whisper telling her not to do that. It was a selfish and mean thought, but she didn’t want to lose Elliot. However, nobles had many duties, and one of them was to create successors to perpetuate the family and protect the territory and its citizens.

“It doesn’t matter.”

Elliot answered simply. Uh? Really?

She stared at him blankly, still with her hand in his. Then he said with a grin.

“I’m used to waiting for you.”

“Even if I don’t go?”

“It’s okay because there’s no way you wouldn’t come on purpose.”

“How can you be sure I wouldn’t go on purpose?”

Elliot’s expression sank.

They had only known each other for less than a few months. She thought Elliot was a good guy and he liked her, but she couldn’t believe how long he would like her because she was not sure what kind of person he was. And wouldn’t that be the same for Elliot? They left the house in silence and got into the carriage. It’s her first time seeing a carriage again.

She thought as she got into Elliot’s carriage. How many carriages did this man have? From the outside it looked like it could seat 4, but when Elliot and she entered, it felt like it was full. Instead, the sheets were very soft. When she gave up trying to keep her legs from touching him, Elliot opened his mouth.

“Because that can’t be possible.”

What? When she looked up and saw him, she realized that Elliot was continuing the conversation they had just had. What did she say? She asked him how he was sure that she wouldn’t go on purpose and that he was waiting for me. Elliot continued, leaning back against his back.

“I know you are the kind of person who will say so if you’re not going to come. If you don’t come silently, it means you are coming.”

Was that so? She found herself questioning what he thought he knew about her rather than what he knew about her. As he said, she tried to say that if she was not going to go, she wouldn’t go. But how could Elliot be sure that she would do that?

“Am I exactly the same as I was in my dream?”

Elliot’s expression hardened at the sudden question. ‘Ugh.’ She stopped when she saw his expression harden. That’s what she thought. She believed that Elliot, Lauren, and Claire’s dreams were precognitive dreams. Because a lot of things went as they said. And it seemed quite likely. But, as they commonly say, the she in the dream was not like her. Even if all the royal family was dead, she was still the king? Okay, they could stop there. If there’s no one else to do it, she had to do it. Was there anything else she could do? That’s the duty of a nobleman.

But she couldn’t believe that her nickname was witch. She may be a little selfish, but witches were too mean. So, even though she believed to some extent that their dreams were precognitive dreams, she guessed she did not believe them to some extent. That’s what she was thinking, so she asked if the person she was in the dream just now was the same as the person she was now.

“That’s not you.”
