Obsessed with Regressors

CHAPTER 27.1

It was Baron Kernell who attacked Baroness Kernell. He was said to have tried to have her killed when she refused to recognize his mistress’ pregnant child as the heir.

She sighed and sank deep into the sofa. That’s what she thought. With Baron Kernell having a lover and her mistress becoming pregnant, it was natural to think about who would be most advantaged if the Baroness dies.

“Why did you think the culprit was the Baron?”

‘Oops’, Elliot was sitting across from her. Unlike her, he was still sitting upright. This means that he was keeping his back straight. Because he was buried deep in the sofa, his face was higher than usual.

She said, looking up at Elliot with her head resting on the back of the sofa.

“The Baron is the one who benefits the most from this.”

“Isn’t it the Baron’s mistress?”

Um, maybe? She tilted her head to the side, not sure why Elliot thought that. Then he spoke again.

“Because when the Baroness dies, the mistress will become the Baroness.”

“Oh.”

‘You might think so. Maybe he thinks that because Elliot isn’t from a noble family.’

She bit her lip for a moment trying to decide what to say. She hoped this didn’t sound too hypocritical.

“The Baron’s mistress is from a commoner background. None of his grandparents were nobles.”

She heard that he met the Baron at a bar he goes to. Since this was a bar that a baron goes to, it must be a bit classy. Stories of men meeting singers or dancers who work there are not that rare. Perhaps the baronet’s mistress thought she would become a baroness herself when the baroness died.

“The Baron will have no intention of making her his Baroness.”

They are nobles. So, the Baron and she. It’s unpleasant to be tied down like this, but she can’t help it. She knew how nobles think and act.

“Baron Kernel is from a decent family. They are also wealthy. Met at a bar… .”

What did the Baron’s mistress do? Dancer? singer? Or serving? It’s better if you’re a singer. However, to marry a nobleman, you also have to be a singer whose name people know.

“He will not take a worker as his wife.”

Nobles and commoners. The classes are divided into just those two categories, but if you look inside, they are divided in much more detail. For example, Elliot and Oliver are both counts. No, Oliver is the one who will become an earl. So, to a non-noble person, it would appear to be the same level. And in the eyes of a young noble making his social debut this time, Elliot will appear to be a step above Oliver. Unlike Oliver, who is not yet an earl, he is already an earl and wealthy. However, if you look at it through the eyes of someone like me who has just debuted in the social world, things look a little different. Elliot and Oliver appear to be at the same stage. Because the Burns family is an emerging family. If our family had been in a better financial situation, Oliver would have been at a higher level instead of being similar. For older people, Oliver is probably a better suitor than Elliot. For people like my mother and Her Majesty the Queen Mother. The same goes for women. She heard that the Rogoso family is not doing very well economically. Even so, Baroness Kernell is of a much higher standard than Baron Kernell’s current mistress. No, it’s a bit unfair to say that this is on the same level. This is why many women from noble families avoid work even though they live in poverty. No matter how ruined a family is, if they had to choose a marriage partner between a noble family and a worker, the nobles would choose the former.

“Because he is young. He would only have tried to take the child away.”

When the Baroness dies, he will remarry a woman from a noble family who is equally in need. Rather than having a working-class mistress as a baroness.

“Hmm.”

Elliot seemed to think about her explanation for a moment, then opened his mouth.

“Originally, I remember in my dream the mistress murdered the baroness.”

“She was jealous of the Baroness because she gave birth to an heir.”

Elliot nodded at her. Well, that was not an impossible story at all. But even in his dreams, the government has nothing to gain by murdering the Baroness. No matter how blinded you may be by jealousy, it takes a great deal of determination to decide and attempt murder. If you take it to the extreme, you might think the Baron’s mistress is crazy. But to Eugene, it made more sense to say that the baron murdered the baroness, disguised his mistress’s child as the baroness’s child, and then blamed her murder on his mistress.

“When did you realize that the culprit was the Baron?”

Elliot’s question silenced her for a moment. She couldn’t say she noticed it. She just thought it was strange.

“The Baroness has lost everything, including your and Claire’s dreams. On the other hand, the Baron got what he wanted.”

Even though the circumstances were different, the results were similar. Contrary to the dream, the Baroness did not give birth to any children, but she was almost murdered. Then, she thought that the fact that the Baroness was murdered in the dream meant that the story was different from what people knew.

“You probably didn’t get what you wanted.”

After saying that, Elliot looked at her and grinned. And before she could ask what was going on, she opened her mouth again.

“You said hello to Baron Kernell.”

It was like that. She didn’t say anything. He probably already knew her. And Elliot too. Because Elliot was famous. And she was a member of the Count Biscon family. She was the ordinary younger sister of the famous Oliver Biscon. That’s her. Nevertheless, the reason she bothered to say hello was because she didn’t want Baron Kernel’s resentment to be directed at Erica.

“I hope you don’t do that in the future.”

Surprisingly, Elliot knew why she came before Baron Kernel. He leaned toward her and clasped his hands, she added.

“A man like that will not repent even if he is punished. They’ll blame you. It’s dangerous.”

She knew. She straightened her back and sank back into the sofa. He was the one who tried to kill his wife. He was like that in Elliot and Claire’s dream, so it’s probably not an accident and he was just like that.

“That’s why.”

She said, clasping her hands like Elliot. At that time, Baron Kernell didn’t ask for her name. When he asked her what she was, he meant what did she usually did. In other words, what was she doing there? Nevertheless, that was why she introduced herself. She glanced at her toes for a moment. Oh, she took off her shoes earlier. Where did it go?

“Rather than regretting their mistakes, such a person will blame them and look for someone to blame. Baroness Kernel is unconscious, so the sparks will hit Miss Rogoso who was next to her.”

She guessed he knew that too. Elliot sighed in disapproval. She said, wrinkling the back of her nose.

“I have a family. He belongs to the Count Biscon family, and my father is the Count Biscon. Even though I look like that, I have a good relationship with my older brother.”

But not Miss Rogoso. She was raised with her older sister by her single father, but she heard that Lord Logos was not a very trustworthy person.

The thing that protects Ms. Logo was that she was probably Baroness Kernell. The two must have been good sisters. And now Baroness Kernell can’t even protect herself, let alone protect anyone.

“It’s okay.”

She took a deep breath and said so. She knew people like Baron Kernel. All they touched were opponents they could easily defeat. They never fought if they felt like it would be even slightly difficult to win.

“I think the reason I was born into the Count Biscon family was for times like this.”

Being a shield on behalf of people like Miss Rogoso. She thought that was her duty as a person born into a higher-ranking noble family.

“Eugenie.”

Elliot, who was quietly looking at her, quietly opened his mouth. He looked straight at her and asked.

“Are you happy that you belong to the Count Biscon family?”

It was such an unexpected question that she couldn’t understand his question for a moment. Was she happy to belong to the Count Biscon family? Being born and growing up was not something a person could choose. She was lucky enough to be born into the Countess of Biscon and raised as Lady Biscon. Of course, she knew there were people who didn’t think that way. What she wanted to say was that if you have any power, you should use that power for good, regardless of whether it was coincidence or destiny.

“Well, okay.”

She thought for a moment and then spoke. Was she happy to belong to the Count Biscon family? Well, even though she wasn’t very rich, she received an abundance of love. Her mother may be a little overly protective of her, but she knew she loved her. Even she sometimes wanted to strangle Oliver, but basically she loved him, wait. Wow. No, she meant it. Basically, he was her beloved older brother.

Father too. When she thought of her father, she chuckled. Then she put his feet on the sofa, hugged her knees, and said.

“I was a bit stubborn when I was young.”

“You still are.”

Can’t he be quiet? She gave Elliot that look and he looked humbled. Okay, that’s what a gentleman should do. She nodded and continued speaking.

“When I was young, my father taught Oliver successor classes. What that means is that he takes the eldest son around the territory, inspects it, and teaches him about the family’s history.”

It was usually an education given by a father to his son. The age varies from family to family, but it usually starts before the age of ten. I smiled and continued speaking.

“My mother said I argued with my father. Why don’t you give me a successor class?”

It was said that no matter how logically they argued, the father and mother were at a loss for words. Her brother said that if something were to happen, she would have to rule over the territory, so of course she had to learn as well.

“So what happened?”

Elliot asked with a smile. It was nice to see his eyes softly curved. She said giggling.

“Starting the next day, I also took classes next to Oliver.”

Her father said that what she said was right. They only have two children, so if something happens to Oliver, he would have someone to protect the estate. Her father’s judgment was right. That was the spirit of the House of Biscon, because she knew more about it than Oliver.

She smiled and looked at Elliot. And said.

“Yes. I feel fortunate to have been born in my family.”
