Obsessed with Regressors

CHAPTER 26.3

“Can I be honest?”

Erica was in Baroness Kernell’s bedroom. Her heart ached for her sister, who looked so small lying on one side of the large bed. Words swirled in Erica’s mind that she wanted to say but couldn’t. She doesn’t know what to say first. Her past resentment and criticism of her older sister became regrets and piled up heavily in her heart.

“I still feel like this whole thing is a dream.”

It seemed like Imelda was going to shake her out of her sleep at any moment. Then, it seemed like Erica’s broken engagement and Imelda being robbed and falling unconscious were all dreams. No, Imelda was a dream from the moment she married Baron Kernel. Erica hugged Imelda and said she had a really bad dream, and Imelda, as always, blamed the provocative article. Then she’ll tell Erica she’ll never, ever marry Baron Kernell.

“Sister.”

Erica let her tears fall as she looked at Imelda’s parched face. When she heard that Baron Kernell had taken her as his mistress, Erica was shocked, but she told Imelda that there was nothing she could do. Baron Kernel was an undeserved suitor for the Rogoso family. He was not Baron Rogoso, and there was no way Imelda and Erica, whose father was Sir Rogoso, could have found a better husband than Baron Kernel. Then Erica, at least she should have kept her mouth shut when Imelda made her mistress. If her sister had seen her suffer so much because of Baron Kernell’s affair, she should have done so.

“It’s my fault.”

Erica mumbled, lowering her head over Imelda’s body. She was selfish. She didn’t like the uproar in her social circles about Imelda having a mistress, and she was embarrassed that her ex-fiancé, who had broken off her engagement, brought it up. For the first time in her life, she felt ashamed of her older sister. She shouldn’t have been embarrassed. She should have been by Imelda’s side.

“As soon as she wakes up, she won’t say anything no matter what she does.”

She won’t say anything even if you make five mistresses. No, she wouldn’t say anything if there were a hundred people, not five. If only her sister would come to her senses.

“If it makes her sister happy.”

Having her own lover still felt terrible to Erica. But she can bear it if it makes her sister happy. She actually said she should have done it from the beginning. Erica looked down at her sister quietly and then she said.

“Hehad come to her house to complain to my sister before.”

This was when Baron Kernell took in his third government. She came home wondering if this was too much for her and if she had to live with it. At that time, Miss Rogoso asked what to do. She said exactly what she said, breaking Erica’s heart to pieces. She took Imelda’s dry hand and wrapped it in hers. And she put her forehead there and murmured, as if she were praying, she said.

“That’s what my father said. If he divorces her, she will die miserable and lonely.”

Even if she couldn’t get married, she said, she would. Erica heard the story as if she had been told before she went to bed that if she didn’t fall asleep quickly, a witch would come and pull out all four of her fingernails.

“I want to ask my father. She wonders if her sister is living happily now.”

Her husband was so busy wandering around the house he gave to his mistress that he didn’t even look at the unconscious wife. Before Erica was forced into this house, her doctor had not even given Imelda any decent treatment. Anyone could see that she was far from living a happy life. That’s what she said to Imelda even before she became unconscious.

“Miss Rogoso.”

The butler knocked on the quiet Baroness’s bedroom, opened the door, and cautiously called out Erica. He looked at Imelda once, hesitated, and then she spoke.

“It’s late at night. Why don’t you stop sleeping?”

That’s how it should be. But Erica hesitated. She bit her lip for a moment and then stood up as if she had made up her mind. And she followed the butler out of the room. The light in Baroness Kernell’s bedroom went out. Marco was watching it from outside the house. He lived in this house his whole life. She also knew that the hook on a certain window was loose and that if you apply force, a gap would form in the window. Marco silently opened the window and came inside.

“Good night, sir.”

Marco clicked his tongue when he heard the butler say good evening to Miss Rogoso. Good night, why were you saying good night? She should have kicked him out in moderation. Although he had been told not to come in, the butler insisted that he could not refuse the Baroness’s brother. They offer to take care of her unconscious sister, but they can’t kick her out. Most nobles have guests who stay for as long as several years or as short as a few weeks. It is the duty of nobles to take care of their relatives who cannot afford it. After all, Erika Rogoso had been staying at the Kernel Mansion for several days to take care of her older sister.

“Tsk.”

Marco clicked his tongue lightly and headed toward Baroness Canal’s bedroom. Then he quietly opened the door and went inside. The inside of the bedroom was as dark as he had seen from outside. He quickly looked for a lamp to light it. Finding the lamp wasn’t difficult. Although it was difficult for him to light the fire, Marco succeeded anyway. He lifted the lamp and checked Imelda’s face lying on the bed.

“It moved?”

They said she moved her hand. So that annoying Erica called the doctor again. She met with the doctor Erica had called to check whether the Baroness’s hand was indeed moving. And she heard that the Baroness’s condition had improved. But she didn’t know what had improved. In fact, she was a little more drawn-out than she remembered. He remembered the woman when he last saw her, her eyes so bright that he wondered if this was the Imelda he remembered. Seeing her emaciated and lying on the bed, it’s hard to imagine what she looked like then. However, Imelda was surprisingly persistent and did not accept his request.

“I have no complaints with you, Imelda.”

Marco whispered to Imelda while holding her lamp. He really had no complaints with his wife. Unlike her other noisy women, Imelda didn’t nag him much about having a mistress or dating a woman. It didn’t matter to her, because if she nagged, she would just yell at her for making a fuss about a woman who couldn’t have children.

“So you must have been pregnant.”

Marco clicked his tongue as he said that. And he put the lamp on the nightstand. Lagerty was pregnant. Unlike Imelda, who was stiff as his sixth mistress, Lagerty knew how to soothe men’s hearts. So she must be the first to get pregnant.

“Don’t blame me. Because I definitely gave you a chance.”

Marco gave Imelda a chance. He said that since his mistress was pregnant, he should recognize the child as Kernel’s successor. He said she could raise the child himself if she wanted. But the answer that came back was extremely stupid. Imelda couldn’t admit it outright, she said, and she had no intention of raising someone else’s child. Even when Imelda said that if she didn’t acknowledge the child, the family would be harmed, Imelda didn’t even lift an eyebrow.

-It doesn’t matter. Because Erica is already engaged.

-Then, what about Sir Rogoso? He might be at a disadvantage.

Unfortunately for her, Imelda thought she had done as much as she would have done for her father. She did as he wished, and married Baron Kernel, turning a blind eye to all of her baron’s infidelities. In the meantime, Sir Rogoso had been raising his shoulders for having Baron Kernel as his son-in-law. Secretly, she asked Baron Kernell to pay off his gambling debts several times. Of course, Baron Kernel is not the one to hide that from Imelda. He lashed out at Imelda every time Sir Rogoso came after him to ask for her gambling debts to be paid, instead of paying him back.

-Do whatever you want. Because I hate that guy just as much as you do.

Only then did Marco realize that his moves would not work on Imelda. No matter what he did, it seemed that Imelda would not acknowledge her illegitimate child. Even if her husband brings his illegitimate child from outside, if his wife does not recognize him as the successor, it will only be an illegitimate child. The successor to the family must be someone recognized by both her husband and wife. Marco resented Balcian’s stupid laws. And she quickly found a way to overcome that problem.

“If you had just accepted the child, this wouldn’t have happened.”

He said and picked up her pillow. It is not surprising that an unconscious person dies suddenly. Even if she had moved her hand that morning, the same would be true. Marco began to slowly press Imelda’s face with the pillow. At that moment, a woman’s voice came from behind.

“Elliot!”

Before Marco could realize what the words spoken by the woman’s voice meant, a strong force grabbed his arm. And as soon as he felt the pain, his body spun around.

“Ahh!”

‘Boom!’ Marco’s body fell to the floor. He couldn’t come to his senses as he felt like he was being thrown by someone. Meanwhile, Eugenie, pulling the rope, ran to the bedroom door, opened it wide, and shouted.

“Doctor! Get the doctor!”

From then on, things went smoothly. The crowd of people was divided into two groups, with one group checking on Baroness Kernell’s condition. And the other bunch.

“Baron.”

Marco, who came to his senses, was impressed by the sad expression of his butler looking down at him. what? What’s happening? The moment he stood up in confusion, someone ran up and kicked his legs.

“You bastard!”

“Ahh!”

Marco’s body fell to the floor again. This time, he really felt like something broke.

“Are you human??”

A series of kicks followed, but fortunately they did not touch Marco’s body. This was because the servants of the Kernel Mansion captured Erica’s body.

“Ahh!”

Marco, who tried to stand up, screamed from the stabbing pain and fell down. He thought his leg was broken.

“W-someone need a doctor…”

When Marco looked up to ask for help, he saw the faces of the butler and unfamiliar people looking at him. A blonde-haired woman who appears to be a bit stubborn. And a black man so tall and bulky that he seemed to reach the ceiling. Both were people who had recently become famous in social circles.

“What are you?”

He asked not who, but what. It’s not that he was curious about their identity, but he was curious about why they were here and what they were doing here. However, Eugenie ignored Marco’s question and stepped in front of Erica. Then he held out his right hand as if to shake hands and said:

“Nice to meet you. This is Eugenie Biscon of the Count of Biscon. This is my friend, Count Elliot Burns.”
