Obsessed with Regressors

CHAPTER 26.2

“Baron Kernel? Not the Baroness?”

Could it be that Claire misheard? She had forgotten that Baroness Kernell had been murdered just a moment ago. But contrary to her thoughts, Claire shook her head and said.

“It was the Baron’s mistress. Well, the rumor was quite complicated.”

“How was it?”

The idea that Miss Rogoso was still waiting in the small drawing room occurred to her, but she felt she needed to know what had happened first.

Claire responded to her question with a troubled expression.

“Because it’s an embarrassing rumor to tell Lady.”

Huh. Sometimes she saw Claire trying to protect her more than Elliot. She narrowed her eyes and glared at Claire. Then she let out a sigh as if she had no choice. And she spoke very quickly and simply.

“The rumor was that the baroness was murdered by the baron’s jealous mistress when she became pregnant with his heir.”

“It’s not that complicated, is it?”

“I remember there was some doubt as to whether the heir was really the Baron and his wife’s child.”

‘Oh, that gets a little complicated.’

She quickly summarized the story. Until now, Claire’s dreams had been precognitive dreams. Although she claims it’s close to what she experienced beforehand. And according to her precognitive dream, she was murdered by Baroness Kernell’s mistress. Because she was pregnant with the Baron’s heir. But not now. The Baroness was not pregnant and the Baroness’s mistress did not intend to murder the Baroness. No, according to rumors, the Baroness’s mistress tried to murder her.

She asked one last time to confirm.

“Did the Baroness have a lover even in your dreams?”

“Um, no. I haven’t heard any such rumors.”

But there might have been. Claire smiled faintly as she said, “If things were normal, the country would have been in disarray by now.”

Right. According to the dream, an angry dragon would have attacked this country. His Majesty the King must have organized an army to somehow stop the dragon. When she thought about it that way, the current situation felt very peaceful. Even when someone was at the crossroads of life and death.

“Thank you, Claire.”

She first thanked Claire and then went back to Ms. Rogoso. Fortunately, she was sitting in the living room waiting for her. It seems that the butler was quick to give Miss Rogoso some more cookies and fruit. She looked at the dessert in front of her and apologized.

“Sorry. I want to check something.”

“Are you here after checking the article?”

Miss Rogoso spoke immediately. It seems she also saw the article and came to visit. She asked cautiously.

“Who did you tell that you met Sir Mysto?”

“To no one.”

“Then how come Sir Mysto wasn’t suspected when Baroness Kernell was first attacked?”

“Uh, there’s that cafe we were talking about. An employee there testified. He was with another woman at the time.”

It was simpler than she thought. She stretched her body for a moment and then straightened my posture again. If so, it means that the employee withdrew his testimony. If the employee withdraws his testimony and Baroness Kernell dies, and the culprit is Sir Mysto, who will have the advantage?

There was only Baron Kernel. But in a dream? His wife, who was pregnant with his heir, was murdered by his mistress. Baron Kernell was completely the perpetrator and the victim at the same time. She thought for a moment and then spoke again to Miss Rogoso.

“Miss Rogoso, do you like gambling?”

“No.”

Miss Rogoso opened her eyes wide as if asking what she was talking about. She thought so. Actually, she didn’t like gambling either. But now all she could say was that this was a gamble. She leaned towards her and began to explain in a quiet voice.

* * *

“You mean Baroness Kernell?”

Elliot came to see me that afternoon and said he didn’t know much about the affair between Baroness Kernell and Sir Misto. When he asked him if Baroness Kernell had had a lover in his dreams, he tilted his head and said:

“Sorry. I don’t really remember.”

She guessed so. She was not a person who cared about whether someone else had a government or not. He thought for a moment and then she added.

“Ah, but I remember she was originally dead.”

“Originally?”

“I made a mistake. In my dreams.”

It’s original. Both Claire and Lauren said the dream felt real. So Elliot must have actually felt her dream, too. You can accept that it was originally a dream and now it has changed. She realized Elliot’s mistake and asked again.

“They say the culprit was Baron Kernell’s mistress.”

“Is that so?”

‘Ah, you don’t know about this story either.’

She briefly explained to him what she heard from Claire. Then an amused expression appeared on Elliot’s face.

“Hmm. The Baron’s mistress murdered her because she was jealous of Baroness Kernell?”

“There are rumors like that.”

Elliot stared at her for a moment, then he smiled again and said,

“It’s a rumor that even you don’t believe.”

She thought she was good at hiding her expressions, but she guessed she wasn’t. She nodded. Then she leaned out to Elliot and asked in a low voice:

“So I offered Miss Rogoso a gamble.”

Elliot looked at her with an unknown expression. And before she could say anything more, he nodded and said,

“All right.”

“Do you know what I’m talking about?”

A smile appeared on Elliot’s face. He asked, tilting his head.

“Aren’t you going with me?”

“Oh, that’s true.”

“That’s enough.”

* * *

Baron Kernell’s mansion was surprisingly alive. Until this morning, it was as quiet as a funeral. It was quiet even before Baroness Kernell lay down in her bed. This was because the Baroness was lacking energy because the Baron was always away from home. In recent months, the Baroness’s sudden change in attitude had made the mansion even more dangerous. The servants always walked around cautiously, as if they were stepping on ice that might break at any moment. But today was different. What’s going on here? Baron Marco Canal, who came to the mansion to change his clothes, was about to go up to his room without thinking, but was stopped by a strange atmosphere. And when he saw the servants’ bright faces, he thought it was strange.

“What’s going on?”

He stopped a passing servant and asked: The servant was carrying fresh bed sheets, but Baron Kernell had no idea what he had. He just thought he was going somewhere.

“Ah, Baron.”

Only then did the servant recognize the Baron, quickly greet him and smile brightly.

“That’s good news. Ma’am’s condition has improved.”

“W-what?”

Improved? Did that mean it happened? The servant said to Marco, who was surprised, with a smile on his face.

“She started moving her hands around lunchtime. We called the doctor…”

“No way! If it had improved, would the doctor have let me know?”

If there was any change in his wife’s condition, he had instructed them to notify him at any time and any place. If it was lunchtime today, it would have been when he was eating with his friends. Why didn’t they tell him? The servant said to him who was confused.

“Oh, I called a new doctor.”

“What? How you dare!”

The Baron, who had become angry without realizing it, came to his senses when he saw the startled servant. He added, clearing his throat.

“Who would bring an outsider into this house without my permission?”

“Well, Miss Rogoso knows a doctor…”

Only then did the servant realize that the Baron was not in a good mood. But why did he feel bad? While he was confused, the Baron quickly returned to his room. Then he changed his clothes and went out of the house again, speaking to the butler.

“I’m going to sleep at Sally’s house today. Be good at locking down doors.”

“Are you leaving without seeing your wife’s condition?”

He heard that the Baroness’s condition had improved. Because the servant who spoke to Marco asked the butler if he had made a mistake. When the Baron asked her if she was not going to see Imelda’s condition, she paused, asking what it mattered. That selfish bitch. He had been working for the baroness for a long time, but he said, thinking that he should get rid of this old butler as soon as possible, who was strangely loyal to the baroness rather than to him.

“She just moved her hand a little. Let me know when she comes to her senses.”

Even if noble marriages were not made out of mutual goodwill, the Baron’s attitude was too indifferent. No, it’s not just indifference. But the butler said nothing. He nodded and Marco clicked his tongue and turned around. He was going to sleep at Sally’s house today. It’s because the house was so noisy. But he quickly turned around and spoke to the butler.

“And you called the doctor, why didn’t you tell me? You and the doctor are getting money from me, so is it okay for you to do your work like that?”

He knew it would happen. The butler didn’t even blink at Marco’s criticism. He looked at the Baron for a moment and then spoke slowly.

“It was Miss Rogoso who called the doctor, not me. Miss Rogoso also paid the cost.”

“Oh, no, even if that were the case, you should have told me!”

“Miss said there was no need to inform you unless she woke up.”

The butler’s reply left the Baron speechless. He glared at the butler and then turned his body around.
