Obsessed with Regressors

CHAPTER 21.4

“Oh my god.”

The next morning, as Countess Biscon was reading the newspaper after finishing her meal, a moan of disbelief came out of her mouth. What’s going on? Oliver and Eugenie checked the newspaper they were reading. There were two copies of the whisper of currants (Translator note: the news name) coming to this house. Oliver and Eugenie are reading one copy each, so their mother is reading a different newspaper.

“Is that the Balsian Daily?”

Oliver asked after checking the newspaper Countess Biscon was reading. Of course, she also read the Balcian Daily at Biscon Mansion. The first thing she read every morning was The Whisper of Currents.

“Baroness Kernell.”

Ignoring her son’s bewildered attitude, the countess said what she had to say. She looked up from her newspaper and looked at her two children.

“I heard she was attacked by a gunman yesterday.”

“A gunman?”

Eugenie asked surprised. Her eyes immediately turned to Oliver.

“Didn’t Sir Ryan say he was attacked by a gunman?”

She had sent a letter saying she was injured and would not be able to visit for a while. Eugenie wrote a reply wishing her well. She was going to tell him that Oliver wasn’t a gangster, but that he was just a drunkard. Ted wasn’t attacked by someone, he just bumped into him. The other person was a large drunk. Ted, who was frightened by the fact that the other person was large and drunk, failed to protest. She was so embarrassed that she told Eugenie that she had been attacked by a stranger.

“It must be someone else.”

Oliver did so for his friend’s honor. But that didn’t sound very trustworthy to Eugenie.

“So you’d better be careful too.”

That afternoon, while drinking tea with Elliot, who proudly visited the Biscon mansion as her suitor, Eugenie made a request. Elliot, who was drinking her tea with her relaxed demeanor, was wondering whether he should be happy that she cared about him or whether she should laugh at Sir Ryan’s lies, and then she asked:

“Shouldn’t you be worrying about yourself instead of worrying about me?”

“Me? Why?”

Eugenie honestly looked like she didn’t know why she should be worried. Elliot smiled at her face without realizing it, but she quickly managed her expression and said.

“I don’t mean to be rude, but you are in more danger than I am.”

She knew what he meant. Eugenie wrinkled her nose and raised her teacup.

“It would be true to say that it is weak. This is a question of risk.”

“A question of risk?”

“I never go to dangerous places or meet dangerous people.”

The place Eugenie went was fixed. house and boat. And a home from someone she could trust. But Elliot was different. He was an emerging nobleman and was in business. Eugenie learned that he could come into contact with more dangerous people and places than she thought.

“Ah.”

That makes sense. Elliot nodded her head but then she paused and she asked.

“But Baroness Kernell will never encounter such dangerous places or dangerous people as you.”

Not like that. Eugenie shook her head. This allowed her hair to flutter around her cheeks. Elliot narrowed his eyes at her for a moment and she took in the sight. The hot afternoon sunlight was entering the living room, half penetrating through the white curtains. In it, Eugenie was sitting on a chair in her living room, wearing her favorite green dress. Elliot liked this scene the best. She was seen sitting on a chair in her living room with her long blonde hair hanging down and wearing only her skimpy dress. She would have taken off her shoes if she had been alone.

“Baroness Kernel has a lover.”

But what? Elliot tilted his head politely and Eugenie added after sipping her tea.

“It would not have been possible to invite the government into the house, so they would have met outside. I would have gone to a deserted street or store to avoid being seen by others.”

Elliot nodded at her as it seemed like a plausible assumption. But a thought immediately occurred to her and she stopped her actions. And she spoke carefully.

“That makes sense, but I don’t think Baroness Kernell would have met her lover away from prying eyes.”

When meeting the government, you don’t avoid other people’s eyes. Eugenie widened her eyes, thinking that she was saying something strange. No matter how prevalent the custom of having a government is among the nobility, the existence of a government cannot be revealed to people like that.

“Baroness Kernell came to see me before.”

Elliot was hesitant about how to explain it to her, so he cautiously opened his mouth. He didn’t think it was that important so he forgot about it until now. Eugenie was like that too. She raised her eyebrows at Elliot’s words. Elliot explained again when she looked like he was asking when she came to visit.

“Then she made an immoral suggestion to me.”

“Immoral? Oh.”

Fortunately, Eugenie immediately remembered what Baroness Kernell had suggested to Elliot. She said she had asked him to be her lover. Elliot was handsome and young. Eugenie nodded her head, thinking that she would probably still be good-looking when she got older. Then a thought occurred to her and she asked.

“Wait, were you acquainted with Baroness Kernell?”

“We met for the first time that day.”

“Hum.”

It means that she offered a lover position to someone she met for the first time. It seems that Baroness Kernell was more crazy than I heard. or not. Eugenie asked with a strange expression.

“Did she tell you why she suggested that?”

A smile appeared on Elliot’s face at her question. He asked with a playful expression.

“Do you think I’m not good enough to receive someone’s government proposal?”

What? Eugenie was taken aback because she had never dreamed that her own question would sound like that.

“No, that’s not it. Of course, you’re very cool. You’re handsome. Everyone would want to meet you.”

“It’s a joke.”

This kid was real. Eugenie’s face turned red with embarrassment and anger. But Elliot had fun. She thought he was good-looking. Of course Elliot knew he’s good looking. He also knew that he had a lot. His wealth, abilities, and looks. He didn’t miss anything. But she told him that all for one thing only. He was just preparing to receive Eugenie’s love. Even if everyone in the world tells him he’s handsome, it’s no use. Unless Eugenie thinks so.

“Thank you for judging me so favorably.”

In response to Elliot’s gratitude, Eugenie wrinkled her nose and grumbled.

“I don’t have a very good personality, though.”

Ironically, she thought that if Eliot’s personality was good, she would be hating God. Because she couldn’t understand why God didn’t create such a perfect being and keep it by his side.

“I think I have a pretty good personality.”

Elliot said that and she grinned. Of course, she knew others wouldn’t think that way. But it didn’t matter what other people thought of him. The only thing that matters to Elliot was Eugenie. What she thinks of him and how she treats him. What emotions did she have? That was the only thing that mattered.

“Okay, Count Elliot Burns.”

When Elliot’s full name came out of Eugenie’s mouth, Elliot quickly adjusted his posture. She raised her teacup and changed her subject.

“You can be anyone’s mistress, lover, or husband. But when someone you meet for the first time suggests something, it makes you question that person’s personality.”

And Eugenie had heard some rumors about Baroness Kernell. Although she had been acting strangely lately, she was basically a quiet and patient person. She did not break down due to rumors about her husband’s affair. Eugenie knew how scary people’s gazes were. She said that if Baron Kernel was even seen with his mistress, he would be in the gossip magazines the next day. And when people gather, he starts talking about whether they have seen the article. At such times, when Baroness Kernell appeared, Eugenie felt sorry for her. She didn’t do anything wrong or lack anything, but she was either criticized or pitied.

“Even then she said she felt like she was trying to take advantage of me.

Eugenie’s face turned red at Elliot’s point. He remember the conversation back then. Even then, she had said that Elliot would have been better looking, no matter who Baroness Kernell’s mistress was now.

“That’s right. I thought she wanted revenge on Baron Kernel. If you…”

Eugenie, who had said that far, stopped talking. It sounds a bit rude to say that an angry Baron Kernell is chasing you with his sword and you think you’ll win. But fortunately Elliot didn’t care. He leaned back slightly on the sofa and opened his mouth.

“It seems like a bit of a strange proposal.”

At that time, he didn’t pay much attention to it. But now that he thought about it, it was definitely a strange proposition.

“She asked me to be her lover for just one year.”

“A year? Do you usually set a period like that?”

Elliot’s eyes turned to her at Eugenie’s question. Why do you do that? Elliot spoke softly to her confused look.

“I do not know. This is my first time receiving an offer.”

“Oh, I’m sorry.”

She made another mistake. Eugenie, who quickly apologized, added that she was trying to fix her own mistake.

“I was wondering if you heard anything from people around you.”

She heard that men brag among themselves when they have a mistress. In fact, they often say that openly in clubs. Sometimes, there are people who make their mistress their mistress at the request of a friend whose situation is not going well. That’s called friendship, right? A look of contempt appeared on Elliot’s face for a moment and then disappeared. He said, looking at Eugenie.

“No. I don’t like that.”

“Something like that?”

“A couple who is not faithful to each other. I want my spouse to love me.”

Eugenie’s actions stopped at the unexpected confession. This was what she said to Awning.

He said something similar before. He said he wanted to win Eugenie’s heart, not just marry her. Eugenie quietly looked at Elliot. And she spoke carefully.

“How about you? Are you going to love your spouse too?”

The look on Elliot’s face as he paused at the obvious question immediately told him he had made a mistake. An expression came to mind. He leaned toward Eugenie and apologized.

“Sorry. I made a mistake.”

She didn’t know what mistake he made. When Eugenie looked confused, Elliot continued his words.

“I want you to love me. It doesn’t have to be as much as I love you.”
