Obsessed with Regressors

CHAPTER 18.4

“Oh my god.”

A young man who saw a carriage that looked expensive even at first glance exuded admiration without realizing it. He quickly stepped back to see who was in the carriage and his mouth dropped open. They were Count Burns and Lady Biscon.

“I heard that Count Burns is wealthy…”

Hearing his muttering, the people who were walking with him also looked up, checked the person in the carriage, and let out an exclamation. He heard that Count Burns was wealthy. Rumor had it that he came out of the dragon’s nest with a huge amount of jewels, so everyone just assumed that was the case. Moreover, he has never actively boasted of his wealth. Although the clothes he wears and the horses he rides are of the highest quality, they are similar to those of other wealthy people in society. Therefore, unless one was very interested in fashion or wealth, it was difficult to estimate the extent of Count Burns’ wealth.

“Now that I think about it, I heard that Count Burns launched a boat while playing in the water.”

At Mrs. Patterson’s words, Lord Foster, who was on a date with Miss Patterson, turned around. It is not uncommon to launch a boat while playing in the water. Of course, it’s possible to have a little extra money, but that doesn’t mean you can say you’re incredibly wealthy.

“They say it was almost the same size as the Duke of Germarot’s ship.”

There were two large boats floating on the river, so everyone was talking about whose boat was the second boat. Lord Foster’s mouth dropped open at Mrs. Patterson’s words.

“You own a boat like that?”

It’s a completely different story from a carriage. That carriage is very expensive, but Count Burns is not the only one who has one. Any young nobleman with some money would covet it. There were definitely some gentlemen who live a bit too much. However, if it were a ship of similar size to the Duke of Germarot’s ship, the story would be different. This means that their wealth is similar to that of Duke Germarot.

“But I heard there was no one on that boat?”

As with Duke Germaroth’s ship, there were no invitees on Count Burns’ ship. No, he had no one to tell him about having been on Count Burns’ ship.

“I heard that only people from the Biscon family were invited.”

This time, even Miss Patterson gaped at Mrs. Patterson’s words. It is not because the Biscon family was invited to Count Burns’ ship. She began to wonder how on earth her own mother knew this story.

“It seems that Count Burns is courting Lady Biscon very passionately.”

As Mrs. Patterson spoke, the people around her began to look at Lady Biscon, who was sitting next to Count Burns. Lady Biscon was pretty, but not that beautiful. Everyone would agree that she was the least good looking member of the Biscon family. Since Count Biscon and his son are so handsome, there must be a relative reason.

“He’s a good person.”

“He’s kind.”

Surprisingly, people’s views on Eugenie began to change just because Count Burns was courting her passionately. Lady Biscon’s opinion of her fell after she broke off her engagement to Lord Rencid. She even went so far as to rumor that she had neglected her Lord Rensid, or that she was too arrogant than necessary.

“I heard she has a difficult temper and is just sassy.”

At Lord Foster’s words, Miss Patterson and Mrs. Patterson’s eyes met. For a brief moment, Lady Biscon was reduced to a woman that no man of decent family and means would ever look at. Because the only people she thought of courting her were those who had neither her title nor her fortune. It wasn’t just because of the rumors that Viscountess Rencid and Lord Rencid were talking about. This was because Lady Biscon broke off her engagement to Sir Rensid without much reason. That incident was enough to make people think that Lady Biscon was a difficult and arrogant woman. The fact that she rejected her fiancé for no reason was proof that she was a fickle and demanding woman.

“I think she might be the opposite. If it were me, she wouldn’t have kept her mouth shut like that.”

At Miss Patterson’s words, Sir Foster looked like he was wondering what she meant. Don’t you know? Again her and Mrs. Patterson’s gaze met. Mrs. Patterson spoke for her daughter.

“Her fiancé. He had a male lover.”

“Glup.”

Sir Foster let out an involuntary groan. Although it may become the subject of social gossip, it was not a crime. Of course, many women would avoid marriage. The problem was…

“I guess Lady Biscon didn’t know?”

Lord Foster, who had been hesitating about what to say, managed to ask a question that was polite. Mrs. Patterson said, nodding her head.

“I heard Lady Biscon was very upset about that.”

“At the coffee house.”

Even Lord Foster knew that story. He heard that Lady Biscon broke into the coffee house. There was a brief rumor going around that her actions were righteous.

“I didn’t know.”

“She kept her mouth shut as she took the blame.”

“She’s a great person.”

Miss Patterson said and looked admiringly at Lady Biscon, who seemed to be her dot. If she were her, she would be talking around the neighborhood. Because her fiancé cheated on her. This was an incident that even made fun of the Biscon family.

“Maybe she’s naive. It’s not flexible.”

After saying that, Mrs. Patterson shook her head and continued her words.

“Anyway, I heard that Baron Biscon was so excited about that incident that he started looking for Sir Rencid. Unfortunately, it looks like he ran away first.”

Lord Foster nodded his head in a dazed tone at the words of Mrs. Patterson, who seemed to genuinely think that Sir Rensid should have been scolded by Baron Biscon. To that extent, Sir Rensid’s scandal was a story known only to those in the know.

* * *

“Shall we have tea over there?”

After taking a walk around the park, she pointed to a hill that Elliot was just off of. She thought she could lie down on the blanket she brought under the big tree and drink tea. When the carriage stopped, Elliot got out of the carriage first and stretched out his arms towards Eugenie. The carriage was so high that someone had to hold her hand. But Elliot had his arms outstretched, and it was clear about what that meant. Eugenie said, looking a little irritated.

“I can go down by myself.”

“I know.”

Elliot said calmly. He continued to speak to Eugenie, holding out his arms to her.

“But if you move suddenly, you may feel dizzy. Falling off a carriage wouldn’t be a very pleasant experience.”

Oliver didn’t overprotect her like this either. Eugenie thought so as she placed her hand on Elliot’s shoulder. It’s annoying, but he’s right. She was lying or sitting all day today. Since she doesn’t even walk properly, she can get dizzy if she suddenly moves from a high to a low place. Elliot’s hands grabbed her waist and lifted her up without any effort. Suddenly, the story she heard from Claire came to Eugenie’s mind.

“When I scolded you loudly in your dream, was I really angry?”

Elliot, who was trying to put Eugenie down on her floor, stopped. He was holding her hand and looking at her still. Was it not the right time to ask this question? When Eugenie briefly regretted it, Elliot said, setting her down on her floor.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

‘You’re lying.’ A wrinkle appeared on the side of Eugenie’s nose. She said, taking his arm.

“You said that when you spoke to Lord Lannon. It’s not because I’m angry.”

Shit. Elliot’s lips drew a small curse at her. Uh huh. When Eugenie lifted her finger, she saw that his lips quickly turned into a smile, as if she had never seen anything like that before.

Eugenie was grateful that Elliot’s hand was still on her waist. Because that smile made her dizzy for just a moment.

“So, your and Lord Lannon’s dreams are not similar, but the same dream.”

If so, there is a high possibility that other people’s dreams are the same. And if multiple people had the same dream, it could be some sort of foreknowledge.

“It’s a dream. It has nothing to do with you now.”

Elliot said and took out the picnic basket and blanket prepared by the Viscon Street butler from her carriage. It contains tools to easily enjoy refreshments. A teacup and a glass bottle with a drink. Even biscuits. Eugenie said as Elliot held out his arm opposite hers, not holding the picnic basket, and she placed her hand on his arm.

“I’ll carry the blanket.”

“Are you insulting me?”

“Yes?”

Elliot spoke calmly to Eugenie, who was embarrassed.

“I’m not so weak that I can’t even lift this.”

“No, that’s not it. I feel like you don’t have enough hands…”

Elliot can even carry a picnic basket and blanket with just one hand. This guy has big hands too. Eugenie checked his hand and wrinkled the bridge of his nose.

“I just wanted to help.”

“I just wanted to help.”

He meant lifting her out of the carriage and putting her down. But she was told that ever since Eugenie scolded her harshly in her dream, she had never picked her up and carried her. Eugenie said to Elliot who was laying a blanket on the grass.

“You probably didn’t do anything wrong.”

Elliot’s hand, which was organizing the blanket, stopped. He glanced at Eugenie and folded her second blanket. And he first laid it on the spread blanket and said:

“No. It was my fault.”

It was his fault. The opponent is the noble Lady Viscon. I didn’t dare touch her body without permission. Elliot offered Eugenie a hand. Then she guided her onto her folded blanket. Since there was only one blanket spread out on the grass, it would be a bit uncomfortable for Eugenie to sit on it. He thought that next time he would bring a cushion for her to sit on as well.

“I bet your butt hurts too.”

Eugenie immediately realized that Elliot cared about her. If you have two blankets, both should be spread out. She feels uncomfortable that only she is sitting in her good seat. But she said Elliot deadpanned.

“The noble Lady Biscon would have taken it for granted.”

She took for granted all the conveniences Elliot provided. There was only one thing the noble Lady Biscon did not allow.

“Of course. Because she is a king.”
