Obsessed with Regressors

CHAPTER 18.3

“Elliot, no, Count Burns…”

Eugenie, who was about to ask him if he knew that, shut her mouth. This was because she wondered if this was why he had been hostile to Awning from the beginning. She hated Awning because she liked men. So did Oliver. When Oliver found out about the relationship between Awning and Lord Hudson, he was shocked and hated it.

“I guess Count Burns knew too?”

When Claire said that it was such a famous incident that Count Burns couldn’t have known about it, Eugenie thought she was right. She sighed. She thought she had to get away from this topic.

“No. That’s not true, so you’re saying that I and Count Burns had nothing to do with each other?”

It was difficult to say that there was no relationship whatsoever. Claire hesitated what to say. Like her noble counterparts, Lady Biscon and Clare, her relationship with Count Burns was somewhat complicated.

“If you are asking whether we were in a romantic relationship, yes. It had nothing to do with it in that way. Your Majesty…”

“He hated men.”

Eugenie nodded her head and accepted Claire’s words. Still, she didn’t understand it. She hated men? She? Claire spoke to her as she thought it was a bit different since it was her dream after all.

“At first, I thought things weren’t going well between you two.”

“I guess Count Burns didn’t like me?”

“Oh, no. If you really think about it, it’s almost the opposite…”

But that didn’t mean the noble Lady Biscon disliked Count Burns. Claire shut him up, not knowing how to explain. And after taking a sip of her tea, she opened her mouth.

“Once, a messenger tried to assassinate you.”

It was mean, but it was natural. Balcian was a country on the verge of collapse, and the new king, Biscon, was barely holding on. If the witch Biscon died, Balcian would be destroyed. That was the thinking of neighboring countries. Even if the witch Biscon couldn’t be killed, the person who attempted to assassinate her was the Reaper. Of course Biscon would kill the Reaper, and she could use that as an excuse to start a war.

“Oh.”

Eugenie let out a moan and took a sip of tea. Lady Devon, she said, had also plotted against her. Neighboring countries sent assassins. It occurred to her that in people’s dreams, she must have had a pretty difficult life.

“In an emergency, Count Burns lifted you up and hid you behind the throne.”

Fortunately, the messenger was captured alive. The problem was: People began to fight over the messenger’s disposition. You have to let them live and you have to kill them. Since she dared to assassinate the king, the argument that she could not be sent alive was much more favorable. It was a pathetic but unavoidable reaction. Because Balcian was a country in decline. All that was left was pride.

“But there His Majesty severely scolded Count Burns. He dared to touch his own body.”

As punishment, Count Burns was sentenced to one week’s imprisonment. It was ridiculous for him to punish his lifesaver who saved him from an assassin.

“I think Count Burns is angry.”

Claire tilted her head at Eugenie’s words. She thought so too. If she were in the same position, she would be angry. However, Count Burns did not protest and remained calm. And he never mentioned it again after that. Even when another noble said that His Majesty had gone too far at that time, Count Burns just stared at the noble with an expressionless expression. Until then, Claire thought Eugenie had a bad personality. She also thought that she was like a real witch, just like others said.

“Maybe so. Indeed, she has never lifted and carried her highness since.”

Wasn’t she just following her orders? The moment Eugenie thought that, she heard Elliot’s voice from in front of her door.

“It’s not because I’m angry.”

It’s her mom. Eugenie and Claire, who were startled, reflexively looked toward the door and found Butler and Elliot through the crack in the door. She was just about to knock on the door. Biggs closed his eyes and sighed. Apparently, he ordered the servant who brought out the car to close the door. If guests of the same sex visit, the door is closed. That way, you won’t be able to eavesdrop on the conversation while passing by. As per his instructions, the servant came out and closed the door properly. The reason the door opened was because of Oliver.

“I’m sorry, miss. He ordered the door closed…”

The butler’s apology gave Eugenie time to save her face. She stood up and comforted the butler.

“No. Oliver came in earlier. It looks like he didn’t close the door properly.”

‘Oh my god.’

Biggs said with a sigh.

“I will also tell you, Master.”

Eugenie also plans to say something. After she told Biggs that it was okay and that she could leave, she asked Elliot.

“You’re here early.”

He said he would come today too. When he dropped her off at her house yesterday, she told her she would stop by after her lunch. So the butler led him straight to the drawing room. When Elliot told her she was early, she raised an eyebrow. She wasn’t that early. But he knew that Eugenie was embarrassed and that she was saying something, so she quickly lowered her head and said:

“Yes. I was worried about whether you were okay.”

Okay. Eugenie tried to say that. But Elliot came close to her. Not only Eugenie but also Claire was surprised. Elliot ignored Claire and leaned towards Eugenie. Then, as she retreated, he lifted the shawl that had fallen on the sofa behind her.

“I think it would be a good idea for you to wear this.”

It’s okay. Even though Eugenie thought so, she obediently accepted Eliot’s hand as he placed her shawl over her shoulders. Claire bit her lips. She was just like her dream. Count Burns was like this even in his dreams. How could they think that dreams and reality were different?

“Better get it fixed.”

Elliot, who had wrapped a shawl around Eugenie’s shoulders, said so and put his hand in her arms. What are you doing? While receiving the puzzled looks of the two women, he opened a small box and took out a small brooch. And he fixed Eugenie’s shawl so it wouldn’t fall off.

“Was it like this in your dream?”

She was good at giving gifts to others. Claire nodded her head in response to Eugenie’s absurd question. Elliot raised an eyebrow at her exclusion of the conversation.

“Sorry. I want to stay longer…”

Claire checked her watch, stood up and said. There was training. A sad expression appeared on Eugenie’s face when she heard that she had to leave. She said, holding Claire’s hand.

“Come again next time. You’re welcome anytime.”

Claire’s face brightened at Eugenie’s hospitality. She wanted to hear that. She kissed the back of Eugenie’s hand and said:

“I will visit again.”

Elliot was looking at her with a disapproving expression. He went out to the front door and stood next to Eugenie, who was seeing Claire off, and held out her arm. Eugenie looked up at Elliot and said, “Let’s go inside now.”

“I want to take a walk.”

“The wind was cold…”

“Oh my god, Elliot. It’s summer now.”

That’s right. But Eugenie fell into the water yesterday. Elliot said with an expression that said she knew it would happen.

“Then how about taking a carriage ride around the park?”

“I want to walk.”

She have been staying at home since this morning. She needed fresh air and sunlight. At Eugenie’s insistence, Elliot looked down at her for a moment and then said with a grin.

“Great. If you get tired, I can carry you.”

“Vixx, prepare the carriage.”

As Eugenie had hoped, the park was filled with fresh air and sunlight. Moreover, it was after lunch time and the midsummer heat had subsided.

“Aren’t they Lady Biscon and Count Burns?”

People who were enjoying a walk opened their eyes wide and started whispering as a shiny four-wheeled open carriage passed by. It was a high-bodied carriage that was popular these days. Eugenie let out a sigh of relief as she realized that every man in the park was staring at the carriage in fascination. When she asked her governess to prepare a carriage for her, Elliot said she brought her own carriage. So, he knew from the beginning that Eugenie would want to go for a walk. It felt like she was playing in Elliot’s palm. Eugenie noticed how high his carriage was and asked Elliot.

“Aren’t there other carriages besides this one?”

She has ridden in Elliot’s carriage before. Even though it was a four-wheeled carriage back then, it had a roof. It was even a four-horse carriage, so at least Elliot had four horses and two carriages.

“Yes. This carriage arrived today.”

“I didn’t know you liked tall carriages.”

Elliot chuckled at Eugenie’s words. If you’re asking whether I like high places, yes. But for her, high and low didn’t mean much.

“Actually, I had no intention of buying it.”

“Then why did you buy it?”

Every time we pass by, people spot Elliot’s carriage and stare at it in fascination. Men and even women. Eugenie shrugged her shoulders, feeling a little burdened by this attention. Unlike Oliver, who enjoyed riding in expensive carriages, she didn’t really like this. If Oliver saw it, he would go crazy with envy. Elliot told her that she thought so.

“I wanted to see you ride.”

What? Eugenie’s eyes widened at the unexpected words. She certainly wonders how fast she would be if she ran at full speed in this carriage. But she also knew that these carriages were dangerous.

“You’re kidding, right?”

It makes no sense that she bought her carriage just to watch her ride. She’s just giving her a ride to live her life. Eugenie thought Elliot was joking when Elliot grinned silently, so she laughed and said,

“It’s a good joke.”

Now that she thought about it, Claire was like that. Elliot says that even in her dreams she behaved the same as she did now. Could it be that the two people’s dreams are not just similar, but the same? It’s a crazy idea, but it’s starting to pop into Eugenie’s head. Of course, it was also because of Elliot who had intervened in her conversation with Claire earlier.
