Obsessed with Regressors

CHAPTER 16.1

“It looks like he was cut a little.”

At Sir Ryan’s words, she raised her head, wondering what he was talking about. Ted Ryan. He was Oliver’s friend. They knew each other and exchanged greetings, but the reason she was sitting across from him right now is because he is courting her.

“What?”

She asked politely. But inside, she was very confused. She didn’t know what happened.

After the breakup of my engagement with Awning was officially announced, men and gifts from them began to arrive at her house. There were even more men and gifts than when she was just starting out in society.

“Lord Rencid. Some part of his body was injured by Lord Hudson.”

What? She furrowed her brow, not knowing how to react to Ted’s words. She didn’t know whether to be offended that my ex-fiancé was consuming the story of how he got hurt in an argument with a friend as gossip, or to be offended that it’s so cruel. But Ted didn’t seem to know that she was upset. He continued speaking in a somewhat amused tone.

“It was also in the article, right? Even in a whisper of current, excuse me. There is no way Lady would read such a gossip magazine.”

She read those gossip magazines very intently. She even subscribed to two copies to share with her mother and Oliver. Of course, there was no need to tell Ted that, so she didn’t say anything.

“Anyway, the gossip magazine claimed that Lord Hudson cut off Lord Rencid’s body parts.”

She knew. It was a very provocative and vulgar article. Her mother was very displeased, but she did not order the newspaper to be burned.

“Everyone was wondering where it was, but there was someone who saw Sir Rensid a while ago.”

Huh. She let out a groan without realizing it. She couldn’t believe Marcel hurt Awning. He seemed quite angry. Suddenly, it occurred to her that Marcel really loved Awning. When she found out that she had been betrayed, she was angry too, but she didn’t feel like cutting off a single part of Awning. But Marcel was that angry, and that might be the difference in the size of their love.

“It seems like a cruel thing to say to Lady Biscon.”

At that time, a familiar voice echoed through the living room. Ted and she, as well as another suitor sitting a little away, looked up in surprise.

“Count Elliot Burns has arrived.”

Then the butler spoke. She looked at Vixx with a slightly tired expression and expressed her disappointment. All the visitors to her house recently seem to be like that. Even before the butler introduces himself, he makes his presence known.

“Count Burns.”

She glanced at Elliot and greeted him. She should have waited until Vixx introduced him. But Elliot grinned at her and then quickly turned his head towards Ted and he said,

“I don’t think there’s any need to tell Lady Biscon that Sir Rencid was injured. Isn’t he going to leave soon anyway?”

“He’s leaving?”

She asked in surprise, hearing this for the first time. Awning? Where? Elliot looked at me and she motioned for me to sit down. Then she sat down a little away and said:

“There was a wagon parked in front of the house. Maybe we’ll go back to the territory?”

She thought she saw it on the way. She groaned, remembering the recent bad rumors about Awning and the Rensid family. Every suitor who comes to their house was excited and told them bad rumors about Awning and the Rensid family. Thanks to it, she also knew that there were even rumors going around that the relationship between Awning and Marcel was suspicious. Of course, she said she didn’t know. She didn’t want to lie and she didn’t think what she was saying was right.

“Well, since I got scolded harshly by Lord Hudson, it would be better to go back to the estate and rest.”

Another suitor, James said. Elliot turned his head to him and with an expression that he didn’t know, and she asked.

“You got scolded harshly by Lord Hudson?”

She guessed he didn’t know either. She guessed he didn’t see the current’s whisper. Maybe you only read Balcian Daily. She said with a dark expression.

“Lord Hudson attacked.”

“After that, someone saw that Sir Rensid’s finger was short, no, it was bandaged.”

At Ted’s further explanation, Elliot let out a small moan, “Ah.” He thought for a moment, then she smiled and said.

“That’s too bad.”

It’s not an expression of displeasure at all. She let out a groan without realizing it. Fortunately, the sound was drowned out by the servant who served Elliot’s tea.

“You will be watching this rowing competition, right?”

The topic shifted to rowing competitions in which Oliver participated. It’s coming soon. She heard that Oliver went out to train early this morning as well. Her mother, who was worried about Oliver’s breakfast, told her that her butler had packed him a sandwich, so she must have had breakfast too.

“Yes. Count Burns said he would prepare a ship.”

This time, they would see it from above the river, not from the riverside. A water play boat was a small boat that could accommodate only a few people. It’s just a matter of inviting a few of her close friends and family over for tea, and Elliot said there’s no problem with her, Julia, and Lauren. Her mother said she would just watch by the river. Falling into the water often happens while playing in the water. A few years ago, someone got caught in a dress and ended up dying. It was Oliver who convinced her worried mother. It is a competition held by rowing clubs. The guardian is the duke. He said that for safety reasons, he would launch several small rescue boats on the river and station people who know how to swim.

“Ah, I have taken care of what you asked me to do before.”

“Thank you.”

She nodded and thanked Elliot for what he said. Then Ted asked with a curious expression.

“What request?”

“Ah, my close friend asked me to do it.”

Lauren, who came by when I spoke with Sir Marin last time, asked me a favor. It’s not that difficult for her, but she said she wanted to ask Elliot too, so he did it for her.

“May I ask what it is?”

Not only Ted but also James was curious. She looked at Elliot once and said.

“She asked if she could add some of her own fabric to her bag.”

She was no big deal. Whenever she went swimming, she usually brought a change of clothes or something to prepare for any unexpected situation. She asked if she could add the cloth she had to her bag, which carried such things.

“Why did you do that…”

As expected, Ted muttered with an expression of not understanding and then stopped. Oliver said the same thing. Wrapping an intact luggage bag with cloth? Why?

“It’s not like I’m losing money, right?”

She said that and raised her teacup. Lauren said she had the fabric anyway and she was the one who wrapped her luggage. He said that if he was going to do it, he would like to add not only my luggage but also Elliot’s luggage, so she just told him the story.

* * *

“Oh my god.”

The day of the rowing competition dawned. First, after Oliver departed, she took a carriage and came to the river where the game was being held, and when she saw the boat anchored where Elliot had guided me, her mouth dropped open. She wasn’t the only one surprised. When she turned around, her mother, Lauren, and even Julia were gaping.

“Now, I thought it was a small boat?”

Her mother was so surprised that she even stuttered her words slightly. Elliot said with a grin.

“I never told you about the size of the boat.”

Was that so? When she thought about it, it was like that. She just assumed that Oliver and she were a small boat. It takes a long time to build a ship this big.

“Let’s go up.”

They boarded at Elliot’s words. Suddenly, she looked back and saw people who had come to watch the game looking at them and Elliot’s boat.

“Where should I put my bag?” their servant asked.

‘Oh right. Luggage bag.’

She brought some food and a blanket just in case. Although it was summer, it could be windy because it was a river. And since it might be such a big boat, she brought some soft cushions to sit on.

“Inside…”

“Put it on the edge.”

She was about to ask her to leave her clothes inside so she could change if she had to, but Lauren came forward. She asked the servants to place the bags as close to the edge of the boat as possible, and she carefully checked that the servants had placed their luggage.

“That kid, what is he doing?” her mother asked. She knew. She said as Lauren looked at her not knowing what she was doing.

“I guess they’re trying to make the bag more visible from the outside.”

“What’s the point of showing off my bag?”

She also didn’t know exactly what Lauren was trying to do. The last time Lauren came by, she said she had a way to get rid of the checkered fabric she had bought. Of course, since cloth is always needed, you can sell it by lowering the price a lot. But Lauren said she wanted to make a profit from it, and since she couldn’t sell the clothes at high prices, she thought of another way. That’s why she wraps her luggage in a checkered cloth. But she doesn’t know how that means selling the fabric at a high price. As she looked at Lauren and the luggage bags displayed as she instructed in confusion, she realized that their old, clunky luggage bags looked quite sophisticated. It was just an ordinary luggage bag made of wood and leather?

“Oh.”

It seemed that her mother had similar thoughts as her. When Lauren finished displaying her bags and stepped behind her, she let out a small exclamation.

“You look sophisticated.”

“I know, right.”

“Lady Biscon, will you please come this way?”

It’s a surprise. Lauren looked at me like she knew she was talking about her and she asked. She quickly walked up to her side and Lauren whispered to her.

“Could it be possible to ask Count Burns to come too?”

It’s not difficult, but why don’t you call it directly? She had her doubts, but turned to Elliot and called out to him. Elliot came straight to her. She turned her head to Lauren to see why they were the only ones called this way. Then she stepped back and said,

“Please stay here for a moment.”

“Huh?”

Here? In front of the luggage? Why? She wanted to ask why, but Lauren had already run towards where her mother and Julia were. She, who was left alone with Elliot in front of her luggage, looked at her and said.

“I want you two to stay here for a moment.”

Elliot’s eyebrows rose. He looked back at Lauren and then at her and grinned.

“I’m lucky today.”
