Obsessed with Regressors

CHAPTER 15.5

“Okay?”

An amused expression appeared on the Queen Mother’s face. She asked, offering Elliot a seat.

“What do you think? I think it would be best for the two of you to get married.”

“For whom is it best?”

The Queen Mother looked puzzled at Elliot’s question, but then she smiled. She then kindly began to teach Count Burns.

“Say it directly. You have enormous wealth. And there is a family that is just starting out. And here for Lady Biscon…”

It’s a bit embarrassing. When the two people’s eyes turned to her, she straightened her back to avoid shrugging her shoulders. The Royal Highness looked at her, then she turned her head back to Elliot and said:

“She belongs to the venerable Count Biscon family,” she said. “You will raise your family together. You have everything you need from each other perfectly.”

That was correct. She pretended not to know and drank tea and agreed with Her Majesty the Queen. On the surface, they, Elliot and she, seemed to have what they needed. Because he had wealth and she had the knowledge of a nobleman. At the same time, she acknowledged that Her Majesty the Queen was right. That meant that her marriage with Elliot was the best.

“I mean, not as a family, but as a person.”

After Her Majesty the Queen’s explanation was finished, Elliot spoke. Huh? She stopped drinking her tea and looked at him, and the Queen Mother had an expression on her face that asked what he was talking about.

“If you just look at the family line, what you said is correct. But families are ultimately made up of people.”

Wait, was Elliot saying he didn’t want to marry her? She blinked, and Her Royal Highness looked at Elliot and asked.

“Are you saying you don’t want to marry Lady Biscon?”

Elliot chuckled. It was a somewhat empty, bitter smile. He lifted the teacup and slowly took a sip of tea. And still, he looked into the teacup and spoke softly.

“I am a sailboat.”

What? Elliot’s sudden words silenced the room. They, the Queen Mother and she, were staring blankly at Elliot. for a moment. She said reflexively.

“If you are the wind, I am the sailboat.”

It was a poem she knew. It was her favorite poem.

If you are the wind, I am the sailboat. In the world, I move forward as you lead.

The Queen Mother said with an expression that she understood what she said.

“It’s Agate’s poetry.”

Elliot was smiling at her. It looked like it jumped out of a picture. She felt a little uncomfortable with his gaze staring at her, so she avoided his gaze. She felt her heart beating fast. Why was he so handsome?

“Are you saying you will do whatever Lady Biscon tells you to do?”

She said that with an expression that showed that Her Majesty the Queen was pleased with it. And then he turned his gaze to her.

‘Ugh, don’t look at me.’

She suppressed the urge to raise her teacup and cover her face. Then she thought she could see his hands shaking.

“Your Highness, it is not even clear that the engagement between me and Sir Rensid will be broken off.”

Fortunately, her voice didn’t tremble that much. She took a deep breath and raised her head. She still felt Elliot looking at her, but she consciously spoke without looking at him.

“Besides, he spread rumors about my relationship with Count Burns. In this situation, our marriage may not be in a very good shape.”

People would probably forget about it anyway as it passes, but if Elliot and she announce their engagement right away, people would think that Awning’s nonsense might be true. And that would follow them like a tag.

‘I don’t like that.’

“Hmm.”

Her Royal Highness looked at Elliot and her in turns and then asked Elliot.

“Do you think so too?”

“I am a sailboat. There is no such thing as thinking.”

She didn’t know why, but she was a little embarrassed. Her face got hot and she stopped to touch her cheek. Her Majesty the Queen’s eyes were focused on her.

“Count Burns, could you please leave for a moment?”

At Her Majesty’s words, Elliot stood up without a word and left the room. She spoke first because she thought she knew what she was trying to tell her.

“Thank you for your concern, Your Majesty. But I don’t want to marry anyone right now.”

The Queen Mother looked at her quietly. And she asked cautiously:

“If it’s because of rumors, then I will order you two to get married.”

It’s a surprisingly sweet offer. She was so moved that she couldn’t speak for a moment. If she ordered it, if her marriage to Elliot became a royal order, no one would say anything. Even Viscount Rensid wouldn’t bother her anymore.

“Gwae, it’s okay.”

She got choked up and stuttered out a thank you. Then Her Majesty the Queen looked at her with a worried expression and she said.

“You understand, Lady Biscon. A man’s heart is like the wind; you never know when or how it will change.”

She knew. She didn’t say anything. Her Majesty the Queen continued to speak.

“For now, Count Burns says he will do as you wish, but I don’t know how long he will do so. So it’s better to decide to get married now.”

Her heart felt tight. She said quietly.

“It means that Count Burns will become like Lord Rencid.”

A small sound was heard as Her Majesty the Queen took in her breath. She was quietly looking at the surface of the tea with her hand wrapped around the teacup. She thought
Awning would be a good husband. Even if they didn’t love each other passionately, she thought they would live by understanding each other and making up for what they lack. She found him quiet and thoughtful. She also thought he was kind. But that changed during the engagement period. He criticized her several times and insulted her and her family. If the kindness up until then was an act designed to marry her, then what about Elliot?

“I made another mistake.”

Her Majesty the Queen said that and then let out a sigh. She didn’t know she would think that way. She was about to say no. This was because Her Majesty the Queen did not know what mistake she had made before.

“Let Count Burns in.”

Soon after, at the Queen Mother’s command, the door opened again and Elliot came in. She spoke glumly to Elliot.

“Okay. It seems premature, so let’s take some time.”

“All right.”

Elliot responded as if he knew what we were talking about. Her Royal Highness looked at the two of them for a moment and then spoke to her.

“See you next time, Lady Biscon.”

When she was told that she wanted to talk to Elliot alone this time, she nodded and got up. Hey, did she mention it for no reason? As she walked down the hallway, she regretted revealing to Her Majesty the Queen that what had happened with Awning had left her a little apprehensive. It’s unlikely that Her Majesty the Queen would do that, but she didn’t want the social world to know that she was worried about things like this. That’s too prideful.

‘I know. That not everyone is like that.’

But even if not everyone was like that, there was only one person who lived with her. If that one person acts like an idiot, that’s the problem. She was so absorbed in her thoughts that she didn’t realize that she had already left the building and entered the garden. When she came to her senses, she found herself walking along the palace wall in a daze.

“This.”

She should have gone out the door and called a carriage, but she got lost in thought and ended up walking all the way here. Where was she? She looked around and realized that she was quite far from the Iron Palace. To some extent, the roof of the main palace was visible. Looks like she walked quite a bit. She could see knights patrolling not far away. Wait, she didn’t know if that’s patrol or returning from work. It did not matter. She sighed and wondered what to do. If she walked along the wall like this, she would come to an entrance, right? The problem was how far she had to walk to get there. She didn’t know if she should go back or just keep going. It was time to think about what to do. Someone approached her quickly. And he spoke softly, holding closer than necessary.

“Cancel it immediately.”

“What?”

Who was this? She turned around in surprise and saw Lord Hudson clinging to her. Why was this person like this? She asked, pulling away from him.

“Cancel what?”

But Lord Hudson came back to her as if she were a magnet. Why was he really doing this?

“Me, me, me…”

What with her? She couldn’t understand, so she looked at Lord Hudson with a frown. She knew he didn’t like her very much. She didn’t know why he didn’t like her, but she heard it happened sometimes. Men who hate their friend’s wife. After getting married, men couldn’t hang out late at night drinking and gambling, so they thought it’s because of their friend’s wife. But she wasn’t married to Awning yet, and honestly, he was with Hudson more often and longer than she was. There’s no reason to hate her.

“If you’re doing this because I broke off my engagement with Awning…”

She said, trying to shake Lord Hudson off again. She didn’t understand why he hated her before, but she understood why he hated her from now on. This was the woman who publicly dumped his friend at the club.

“Don’t act like you don’t know! I heard everything from Awning. You, you are trying to separate us!”
