Shit. She cursed internally. she should have been patient. Oliver was a bit simple-minded and a pain in the ass when he got angry. She heard it hurts. If you’re wondering why she heard it, it’s because he had never used violence in front of her. Her mother was very strict with her and Oliver in that respect, and scolded Oliver even if he uttered a curse word in front of her. But she knew that he broke all the windows at the academy while fighting with upperclassmen. Her parents had a hard time compensating for that. And she heard from Julia that that story was still talked about at the Academy.
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to talk.”
Oliver said that and then turned around. Could not be done. She reflexively held her brother’s hand. It was difficult to compensate for breaking a club window.
“You know our house is going to cost money again, right?”
“What?”
“I mean me. Since you broke off your engagement, I guess you’ll have to go to the ballroom again.”
Of course she had to buy another dress. This was because it was against etiquette to wear the same clothes consecutively. Of course, no one really came wearing different clothes every time. Pretend to be wearing different clothes, such as changing your shirt or adding lace to your dress. But you still have to match at least two sets. And most of my money went to supporting Lauren’s wardrobe. This means that it was not a very good situation. She sighed and said, because Oliver looked like he didn’t understand.
“I’m saying that since there is a lot of money to be spent, your brother should not join in.”
“Someone who knows that would break off the engagement without telling us?”
If she said that, it might seem like she had nothing to say, but no. She said with a frown.
“Then are you foolish enough to pretend not to know that Awning is spreading dirty rumors?”
For the sake of her honor and the honor of their family, she couldn’t just stay. Oliver also sighed and said.
“Okay. Our family has no money, no pride.”
What was he saying? She laughed out loud and Oliver started giggling along with her. Then, sitting down across from her, he sighed and asked:
“I don’t think you broke off the engagement because you were angry. You don’t regret it, do you?”
She didn’t regret it? She already did it. Last night. She laughed bitterly. She lay in bed and thought about it several times. Did she do well? To be honest, she still didn’t know if it was a good thing.
“Oliver, if I were to go back to yesterday, would you just tolerate it?”
Oliver closed his mouth in response to her question. After much thought, that was what she came up with. If she could go back to yesterday, would she make a different choice? Even though she knew that Awning was spreading ridiculous rumors about her and that it would bring dishonor to her and her family, should she pretend not to hear anything and go ahead with marrying him?
“Even if you put up with it, I won’t.”
She smiled brightly at Oliver’s words. His mother said the same thing. When she objected, asking if she should have endured it, she said that she should have waited for her mother to announce the break-up of the engagement in her family. In the end, her family agreed to break off the engagement with Awning.
“I guess I’ll have to stay quiet for a while.”
Oliver said, standing up with a lighter expression. Who was he talking about? She said, nodding her head towards her bandaged arm.
“I can’t even go out anyway.”
“Even with that arm, he goes to the club, breaks off the engagement, and talks well.”
Breaking off an engagement was done with the mouth, not with the arms. She said with a grin.
“They say our family doesn’t have money or pride.”
“That’s right.”
Oliver’s hand went to her head. Uh huh. She tilted her head slightly.
“I’m not ten years old?”
“Even when I was ten, I wasn’t allowed to stroke my head.”
“Of course. Do you know how much work goes into a ten-year-old’s brain?”
She put more effort into it than she did now. They left the parlor laughing. She was sure Julia is standing in the hallway, eavesdropping on their conversation.
“Eugenie.”
Just as she thought, Julia was standing in the hallway. What? She thought she would look embarrassed as soon as she saw her and Oliver, but that wasn’t the case. She handed her the letter with a serious expression. What’s this? Oliver asked as he received the letter instead of her.
“Where did it come from?”
She guessed it wasn’t written on the envelope. She saw him looking at the front and back of the envelope. The wax that sealed the envelope also had no seal on it. Then, Julia said.
“They said they came from the royal palace. To Eugenie.”
Now that she thought about it, it seemed like it was offered to her. Oliver opened the envelope with a serious expression, read the contents inside, and handed it to her without saying a word.
“Uh?”
It was a letter sent from the Iron Palace. Her Royal Highness called her.
“Majesty. This is Lady Eugenie Biscon.”
The next day, she entered the palace in the carriage that Oliver gave her. Of course, Oliver didn’t come in. He just gave her a ride on the way.
“What happened to your arm…”
Her Majesty the Queen looked at her as she entered, was startled, and stopped to ask. It was her first time seeing her so surprised. She paused and spoke calmly.
“It’s okay, Your Highness. I was careless.”
“Isn’t he like that?”
Him? She wondered if Her Majesty the Queen knew Gilder, but that couldn’t be possible. She quickly realized that the guy she was talking about was Awning, and she quickly said,
“No, no, Your Majesty. Lord Rencid has nothing to do with this.”
“But you won’t protect him just because he was once your fiancé, right?”
Did she have to? She chuckled at Her Majesty the Queen’s ridiculous concerns. That couldn’t be possible. If this was Awnings’ fault, she plannes to report it directly to Current’s Whispers.
“Otherwise, that’s okay.”
When she said no again, Her Majesty the Queen nodded and raised her teacup. Before they knew it, refreshments were placed in front of them. She was glad her injured arm was her left arm. Because she could eat this delicious food.
She felt relieved and lifted the teacup. The tea served by Her Majesty the Queen was very delicious. It had no astringent taste at all and had a subtle scent. The same goes for the desserts that go with it.
“Marry Count Burns.”
“Cough.”
She almost squirted the tea she was drinking onto Her Majesty the Queen’s precious face. She looked at her as she managed to spit the tea out of her mouth back into the cup.
‘What, what?’
The Queen Mother raised her hand with a dirty expression. Then she spoke to the Countess of Devon who approached her.
“Bring back Lady Biscon’s tea.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
She didn’t know whether to be embarrassed or angry. She waited until the Countess of Devon had brought her tea, and only after she had moved away did she speak to her.
“Your Majesty, does Count Burns know what you said now?”
“It’s a condition that doesn’t hurt him.”
“You mean there’s nothing bad?”
“If you go to Count Burns, Count Biscon will have a garage. Just looking at you as a person, you are much better.”
‘No, wait. Wait.’
She couldn’t come to her senses from the compliments from Her Majesty the Queen that came to her out of the blue. She was saying that she was better than Elliot in every way.
“Your Majesty, Count Burns is a hero.”
He stopped the dragon. Wasn’t he the one who became a count thanks to that merit? It made no sense to say that he was better than the country’s hero. ButHer Majesty the Queen’s position was firm. She said firmly, sipping her tea.
“Even though he is a hero, he is an emerging noble. “You are much better.”
That’s because Her Majesty the Queen was a royal. From the royal family’s point of view, a person from a historic noble family would be more trustworthy than a commoner hero. She sighed and asked.
“Are you saying you don’t know Count Burns yet?”
“If you know? How dare he reject you?”
That’s why she wouldn’t refuse. She sighed again. To be honest, Count Burns would gladly accept Her Majesty’s instructions. But she didn’t like it. It was at most two days ago that she told Awning that she would break off their engagement. They hadn’t even accepted it yet. She didn’t know how to know that because Awning was chasing her this morning too. She was told that the butler politely sent it away. Then, strangely enough, Awning started sending gifts. There were things like flowers, handkerchiefs, books, gloves and hairpins. The gifts she received yesterday and today were far greater than the time she had known Awning.
“Majesty.”
She wondered how to say this without hurting Her Majesty the Queen’s feelings. But would anyone feel good about opposing his opinion?
“I have no intention of marrying Count Burns.”
“Your Majesty, this is Count Burns.”
Oh really. The timing was perfect. The moment she spoke, the door opened and Elliot came into the room. And she felt the atmosphere in the room getting colder. She closed her eyes tightly. Oh, shit. If that man wasn’t around, he’d show up when he needed to.
“What do you think, Count Burns? Lady Biscon says she has no intention of marrying you.”
“Majesty!”
What was she saying? She was surprised and called Her Majesty the Queen. She said this without knowing that this man would come in. No, of course, it was right not to say anything that couldn’t be said in front of your eyes, even when it was not there.
“I know.”
At that time, Elliot spoke. Ugh, what’s wrong with him again?
