Everyone didn’t know what to say. Breaking off the engagement. It was also the break-off of Lady Biscon and Sir Rencid’s engagement. Even if they heard news of someone else’s breakup, it wouldn’t be more shocking than this. There seemed to be no problem between Lady Biscon and Sir Rensid until recently when Awning began making strange noises.
“Now, wait a minute, Eugenie!”
Awning quickly tried to grab her as Eugenie turned her body, announcing the break off of the engagement. Then Eugenie said with an expression that he was rude.
“Lady Biscon.”
The reason he could call her Eugenie was because Awning was her friend and fiancé. Since he betrayed and insulted her and her family, he was neither her friend nor her fiancé. Awning stopped, dumbfounded by her warning that he wouldn’t dare call her by her name.
“Are you serious?”
Was she really going to break off the engagement? He asked in disbelief. He just wanted to make Eugenie a little more compliant before their marriage. He didn’t like hanging out with Count Burns and didn’t want to see him being arrogant even after marriage because his father was an Earl. Of course, he didn’t know that Eugenie would come forward and break off the engagement. Eugenie was already too old to be on the market for her line again. Since the engagement was broken off, the next groom would have to choose a man with worse conditions than Awning.
The next moment, Count Burns appeared in Awning’s mind. He’s that slick savage. The man who dared threaten him.
“It’s him, right?”
As expected, Eugenie was in a similar relationship with Count Burns. That’s probably why it could come out so shamelessly. Such calculations passed quickly through Awning’s mind. He shouted, grabbing Eugenie’s arm.
“It’s that guy, right? You betrayed me after all!”
Eugenie’s eyes turned to Awning. She cast her gaze to his hand, which was clutching her arm in warning, but Awning still held her tightly.
“Of course? Weren’t you sure? That’s why you were going around saying I had a suspicious relationship with Count Burns.”
“What?”
“Lord Rencid, can I call you a gentleman even though you have tarnished your fiancé’s honor without being certain?”
Awning’s face turned red at the euphemistic criticism. He was embarrassed, took his hand off Eugenie’s arm and walked away. Eugenie, who was finally free, turned around. She left her room neither slowly nor quickly, stood in front of the manager and spoke.
“If anything happens, come to Biscon Manor.”
After that, the people there watched without saying anything as Eugenie leisurely left the club. She thanked the servant who hurriedly opened the door for her as she approached, then left.
“Oh my god.”
As soon as Eugenie left and the servant closed the door, sighs came out of everyone’s mouths. They began talking, half in amazement and half in horror, about what had just happened. Everyone knew what Sir Rensid had done. To put it simply, he took the initiative. Sometimes, before marriage, a potential spouse’s behavior becomes an issue and discouragement occurs. However, at best, it was just the way she spoke and the way she dressed, but raising a rumor that she was in an inappropriate relationship with another man was a completely different level of problem.
“He’s completely out of your mind.”
“There is no way in his right mind he would have done something like that.”
People were whispering as they watched the awning hurriedly leave the club.
“Why did he do that?”
“I heard that Count Burns is interested in Lady Biscon.”
“Did he do that because he was afraid of losing his fiancé?”
If so, he did something very stupid. Lady Biscon personally came to the club and announced the breakup of the engagement. If Count Burns really had his heart set on her, he wouldn’t miss his chance now.
“Wait, Count Burns is interested in Lady biscon?”
“So the rumor isn’t entirely a lie?”
That’s right. But the man playing cards with Oliver stopped.
“That’s a lie. From what I heard, Lady Biscon wasn’t interested.”
“Okay?”
That’s kind of surprising. The eyes of those who were wondering whether Lady Biscon really had nothing to do with Count Burns turned to him. The man shrugged his shoulders and said.
“Count Biscon felt regretful. I guess he thought Count Burns was better than Lord Rensid.”
He didn’t know that. But it was a pretty plausible story. In terms of family, Viscount Rensid was more venerable, but Count Burns was wealthier. Although the Viscon family was venerable, he was not very wealthy. So, in some ways, it might be better to have Count Burns, who was a bit lower in family status but much wealthier.
“Lady Biscon had no interest? Really?”
Even if you don’t put them together, his masculine charm was much better than that of Count Burns. So much so that it would be rude of Count Burns to compare him to Sir Rencid. The man said to her, shaking his head.
“They said he jumped up. Count Biscon was quite grumpy about his sister’s inflexibility.”
He said that? People’s expressions changed to ask why they were saying that now. The man looked at the people’s expressions and shouted as if he was aggrieved.
“I didn’t know Lord Rencid was talking like that!”
Normally, rumors were the last to reach the protagonist of the rumor and the people around him.
* * *
“Eugenie! Eugenie!”
She was sitting in the living room reading a book when she heard Oliver yell and she raised her head. Julia, who was flapping her bookshelf across from her, was startled and jumped up from her seat.
“Sit down, Julia. I have to read it and write a book report by tomorrow.”
She said to Julia, looking for a bookmark. It’s one of her summer vacation homework. After noticing that her daughter had not done any of her summer vacation homework, Sir Escalee asked her to personally bring it to their house this morning. How old was she and why did she put off doing her homework? She winked again at Julia, who had a disapproving look on her face. She had been holding onto it since this morning, but she still hadn’t been able to read a single book. Julia’s educational status was questionable.
“Eugenie Biscon!”
The sound of Oliver’s footsteps, pounding here and there, finally arrived in the first floor living room where Julia and she were sitting. That means Oliver went up to her room on this floor. She didn’t know how she thought she could walk around so noisily and come in without her mother’s knowledge in the early morning.
“You-you…”
Oliver, who finally found her, looked so angry that he didn’t know what to do.
‘Ah, I see what’s going on.’
As soon as she saw Oliver’s expression, she realized why he was doing that and put his bookmark between the books. She wondered where the bookmark had gone and found it between her knees.
“Are you serious?”
“If you are asking whether I am really Eugenie Biscon, then yes.”
She answered harshly. Then a frustrated expression appeared on Oliver’s face. But she also had something to say. Oliver had already been scolded by his mother for trying to argue with her. Sure enough, Oliver came up to her and asked.
“Really? Did you really break off your engagement with Awning?”
“Did you break off the engagement?”
Only then did Oliver realize that Julia was in the living room. Oh my. She looked around and looked around, and Oliver wrinkled his nose and said to Julia.
“Julia.”
“I’ll save you a seat.”
After saying that, Julia took her book and got up from her seat. She then shifted in her seat and this time she sat on the chair next to the window.
“Julia.”
This time she called her. She understood the desire to watch the fight, but they had no intention of showing it. In response to her warning, Julia shrugged her shoulders and stood up, saying:
“It was worth a try.”
She hoped you wanted to see the book in your hand as much as you wanted to see our fight.
“I heard you broke off your engagement with Awning. That too at the club.”
Oliver said as soon as Julia got out she seemed to corner her. At least Oliver’s red face had returned to its original state, as if he had had time to calm down thanks to Julia.
“Who said this?”
She asked, putting the book on the table. Then a look of confusion appeared on Oliver’s face.
“Ted, no, no?”
She knew who it was. Ted Ryan. He was Oliver’s friend and often comes to their house to hang out. And as she could see from the fact that he was Oliver’s friend, this guy was also a libertine. That meant that even at his age, he was still not engaged, let alone married, and only enjoyed drinking and gambling.
“No, that’s right.”
Oliver seemed to be speechless at her harsh answer. He gave her a look that asked her why she was being so shameless, and then he asked:
“But why don’t you ask who I heard it from?”
“I was wondering which of your friends is the most talkative.”
“Eugenie!”
The funny thing was that loyalty exists even among libertarians. Oliver got angry because he felt bad for calling his friend’s mouth dirty. She jumped up from her seat and said.
“You don’t have the right to shout loudly. The same goes for your friends.”
“What? What does that mean?”
“They were telling an off-color joke between me and Count Burns at a high-class club.”
Oliver’s face hardened at her words. She guessed he didn’t know. Of course. She was relieved that Oliver didn’t know. If he had known, he would have been more upset. How dare him let them make such a cheap joke.
“What did they say?”
Oliver asked in a low voice. She closed her mouth and he asked again in a tone that made it seem like he was gritting his teeth.
“What kind of bastard said it?”
“All…”
“What kind of bastard said it?”
