As dinner time approached, the number of passers-by and carriages decreased as they headed toward the dressing room street. She walked, hoping the person tailing her would think she was going to look at clothes. But to be honest, she didn’t know if she was doing it right. Maybe she was walking too fast? Or was it too late? She did not know. She wanted to look back, but that didn’t sound like a very good move. Instead, she listened to the sound behind her. If someone was following her, the footsteps would be steady. And the sound of Elliot’s carriage.
“Huh?”
Suddenly, it dawned on her that she couldn’t hear the sound of a carriage following behind her. There was no sound of horses’ hooves or wheels. What? As she involuntarily grabbed her body to go back, she wondered if Elliot was really following her. Would he be following because she asked him? But she didn’t know if it’s right to trust him this much. Her steps slowed down a bit because of her anxiety. She started looking for a store to run into so she could call for help if she needed to. The good news was that there were also shops that she frequent. For example, a large clothing store called ‘Bluebird’ was her mother’s favorite store. And there were also shops that she liked. It’s a shop called ‘all the beauty in the world’, but it sold gloves and stockings. Shall they take a look at what we’d come all the way here? After hesitating for a while in front of the store, she made up her mind. The gloves and stockings of that store were looked at without knowing how much time passes.
“Lady Biscon!”
After hesitating in front of the store, she was about to leave, but the owner of the store opened the door and came out as if he had found her inside. Isabelle spoke to her with a welcome smile.
“Would you like to come in and have a cup of tea?”
Normally, she would have entered without refusal. And she would drink her tea while watching the show off her new products. But it couldn’t be. She said with an apologetic expression.
“I will definitely go next time.”
Isabel’s expression darkened slightly at her answer, then returned. What mistake did she make? She thought so, but she laughed.
“Is it so. Please come next time.”
What’s going on? She walked forward thinking that she must visit the store after this work. Isabella was a genius. When she saw the lace made by her hands, she came to think that this was what genius was in the world. In her heart, she wanted to hire her as her exclusive lace craftsman, but her genius cannot be monopolized. She walked down the street, wondering why Isabelle’s expression was so dark, and realized that she had come to the end of the street in the dressing room. What did she misunderstand? She thought so. She walked all the way down the streets of the dressing room, where there were almost no people, but nothing happened. Maybe the man who was tailing her left when he saw her saying hello to Elliot. Or maybe, it’s just her misunderstanding. Fortunately, there was no sound from behind. It’s a waste of time for Elliot to follow her if no one was following her.
“Ugh.”
She did something stupid. She sighed thinking so. She just wasted his time; she also had to say sorry to Elliot. When she thought so, she started to get hungry again. She felt very sorry for the cake left at the cafe earlier.
It was then.
“Eugenie Biscon.”
As she turned around, she heard someone calling her. Huh? She reflexively stopped. Then she turned her head in the direction of the sound. The next moment, someone grabbed her. She was dragged away without even screaming at the violent action.
“You witch!”
Who was it? She was so shocked that she couldn’t see the man’s face. She blinked a few times to secure her vision. It’s that man! The man she met at the Aston mansion! And the man who tailed her today! The two were the same person. She saw the man and gaped her mouth in amazement. Then he said,
“You seem to remember me, don’t you? Lady Biscon, the very noble lady Biscon.”
“You… .”
Who was it? He was someone she didn’t know, it’s someone she had never known or said hello to. That day, after they bumped into each other at the Aston mansion, she thought about it, but after all, it was someone she didn’t know. So she asked with a frown.
“Who is this?”
Then the man’s expression darkened. He said as if he was very angry that she didn’t know him.
“You don’t know! Yes, you don’t know!”
She didn’t know what he was talking about. Slowly, she started to lose feeling in her gripped arm. She struggled to get away from the man. But soon the man pointed something at her chest and said.
“Don’t move!”
She felt like her heart had dropped. She said, trying not to look at the sharp dagger in one corner of her field of view.
“Why, why are you doing this?”
“It is because of you. Unless it’s you…”
He was crazy! It was the first thing she thought of. He was a stranger, but he was acting as if he knew me.
‘Uh, what should I do? Have I ever learned what to do in this situation?’
Her mind was confused. The first thing that came to mind was kicking the opponent with her leg. But he was too close, and the man’s knife was in her chest.
“Only you, only you need to disappear.”
This crazy guy. She was startled by the feeling of something sharp hitting her chest and jumped up.
“Ouch!”
As she bounced, the man grabbed her arm and twisted it, causing pain. She thought the feeling was gone, but the pain came like a broken arm. As she struggled to get away from the man who was pulling her, she realized she couldn’t stand him.
“Quiet!”
As she tried to scream, the man put a knife to her throat and yelled at her.
‘Oh my god.’
She lowered her head in horror at how close he drew the knife, only to realize she was wearing pointy shoes. The man’s feet were right next to hers. It wasn’t even boots. She carefully lifted her leg. Then, she stepped on the man’s little toe as hard as she could.
* * *
Gordon Kesro. This was the name of the man who attacked Viscount Aston and framed Eugenie. And Elliot didn’t know who he was. Following Eugenie’s request, he tried to remember who Gordon was and what had happened. But he was neither noble nor famous. Then there was a possibility that he too was a dreamer. Elliot reflexively placed his hand on his waist and realized it was empty. As he left his guests and came out to meet Eugenie, he remembered that he had been left behind on purpose. Carrying his sword would frighten her, but now he regretted it.
He started looking for something that could be a weapon. And when he turned his head to Eugenie and the man again, they were gone.
‘Where did you go ?’
Elliot immediately approached the place where he had last seen Eugenie. This street was lined with shops. The man would not have been able to kidnap people without anyone noticing.
“You witch!”
Fortunately, he quickly found Eugenie and Gordon. Elliot quickly leaned over her and peered into the alley where Gordon had dragged Eugenie. And without realizing it, he clenched his fists. Fortunately for him, Eugenie’s face was not visible from this side. And the dagger, which Gordon would hold against her. But Elliot saw Gordon grabbing Eugenie’s arm and saw him talking to her like a madman.
“Only you, only you need to disappear.”
Eugenie jumped up in surprise at Gordon’s crazy words. Elliot lowered his body and pondered how to approach her. He had to circle around the building to turn around and attack. As he calculated the distance, Eugenie carefully lifted her leg.
“Ah!”
Gordon’s screams echoed through the narrow alley. Elliot lowered his body and pulled Eugenie who jumped out this way. And to keep Gordon from following her, he quickly dug between the two of them. In her escape, Eugenie did not know that someone had stepped in front of her from behind, between Gordon and herself. Elliot walked over to Gordon, who was grabbed in the foot by her, and kicked him.
Puck!
Gordon just rolled back. Elliot thought of how much he regretted not bringing his weapon once again. If he had brought a weapon he could have done it neatly.
“Elliot?”
Eugenie, who was running out of the alley, realized something strange about it and stopped. She then looked back and found Elliot standing in an alley and she called out to him. When did he come? Apparently, until she ran away, she was only there with Gordo.
“Sorry.”
Elliot apologized as he turned to Eugenie. He had been following too far. He should have stopped Gordon before he attacked her. No, he should have caught Gordon first. Much before he tailed her. Eugenie didn’t know why Elliot was apologizing. When she tried to ask what he was talking about, Gordon yelled at her.
“That witch! You have to kill that bitch!”
Immediately, Elliot kicked Gordon in the jaw. As he passed out with a thud, Eugenie flinched and approached Elliot and asked.
“Gwa, are you okay?”
Elliot confirmed that Gordon had passed out, and he walked over to Eugenie. Gordon’s face was bloody from his kick, but she hoped he wasn’t dead.
Realizing that Eugenie was in a state of excitement from fear and surprise, he quickly wrapped his arms around her shoulders.
“Are you okay?”
As expected, Eugenie, who was on the verge of fainting, took a deep breath and leaned her body against Elliot’s arm. Her eyes were dizzy. She asked, looking up at him slowly.
“Were you following me?”
“You asked me to do that.”
She did. However, Eugenie doubted him a little in the middle. She said cautiously as her vision stabilized.
“I thought you just left because there was no sound of the carriage.”
His face hardened. Horrible memories flooded his mind.
-Come for me, Count Burns.
The same voice had spoken to him with different expressions. He knew he shouldn’t go. went nonetheless Because he wanted to. What a mistake that was, Elliot learned the hard way. He bowed his head to Eugenie and said firmly.
“I will never leave you.”
