Number One Chef in the Intergalactic Era

One may wonder why the brothers didn’t think of hiring some nanny for their sister. Since they are one of the richest families in the galaxy, it wouldn’t be a problem for them. The truth is, the brothers are paranoid about their sister’s safety. They don’t think that any normal person with a working mind will be able to tolerate his sister’s behaviour, who is childish and likes to throw tantrums every once in a while. They think she will be neglected and frowned upon for her unreasonable behaviour. Besides, she already has a nanny robot Mi, whom they trusted but still a big accident happened. That’s why, they are thinking of not hiring anyone. And most importantly, their sister doesn’t like stranger’s company. They are worried that their sister will be more troubled rather than the person who will look after her. So they decided to take care of her on their own.

Under the guidance of Brian’s schedule, the four brothers split up their responsibility of taking care of their sister. Now they no longer gather around her together. They do their part of work bestowed upon them and spend their scheduled time with her.

The next morning after the schedule was planned, Blake went to his sister’s room to wake her up. After the door opened, he was surprised to see her already awake and sitting in her bed, staring ahead blankly. Hearing the door opening, she looked at him with wide eyes.

“You are already awake, sweetheart?”

“Yeah….good morning…”

Blake is surprised again but he still greets her back. After that, he helped her wash up–since she couldn’t walk–and took her to the living room. Unlike other days, the living room today is empty, no brothers are seated on the couch. Bella couldn’t understand if she should be happy or sad that they aren’t here anymore. Before she could think more, a test tube containing the same milk-ish liquid she hates were handed to her.

“Drink up. We can start studying after that.”

Blake says as he rubs her head soothingly. The urge to throw the test tube away rises up inside Bella but she pushes it down, and with a gulp, drinks everything inside the test tube. Blake can’t help but chuckle at his sister’s contorting face who looked like she drank something horrible. The taste of the nutrition liquid isn’t that bad to be honest, it tastes like milk, a bit sweet but salty. Maybe because Bella– who was Ann previously and a famous chef of the 21st century– has advanced taste buds than the people of this era. Whatever the reason, she doesn’t like it.

The learning began just as yesterday. Blake began to teach her the alphabet of the language– the language that can also be called the universal language of this era– and some small words and their meanings. Everytime Bella successfully memorised or answered the meaning correctly, Blake would start praising her immensely, saying she is a genius.

Actually, Bella, the Michelin star chef Ann, isn’t intelligent at all. Apart from having a talent in cooking, she had neither intelligence nor beauty. Cooking is the only thing she was best at. But the reason she is able to grasp the teaching quickly is because she figured out that this language also has 26 letters like that in English. They may look different but each letter is pronounced similarly to that of English. They look like the ‘evolved’ form of the English alphabet. She found the similarity between these two languages and figured out the vowels and consonants. After that, it became easy to pronounce and memorize. She might have average intelligence but she isn’t stupid. And top of all, she is an adult, not a child her brothers think of her as. So learning the language was as easy as baking a cupcake.

“Wow! Our Bella is so smart!”

Blake couldn’t help but praise his sister more. He and the others were worried that after forgetting her memories, it would be hard for them to teach her everything from the beginning. They could feel that she has changed, albeit little, but changed nonetheless. But they didn’t know if it was a good change or bad change. But now seeing her memorising the letters so quickly and efficiently, he was both surprised and happy.

“How about, I read you a book?”

Blake asks with a smile as he fishes out a tablet from his storage ring. Although his sister hasn’t learned many words, reading a book will make the study interesting and memorable to her. His smile gets wider seeing the twinkle in his sister’s eyes, which means she is excited to read the book.

Bella always loved books, reading was her hobby when she was a chef. Reading cooking books, scientific research, novels or sometimes fairy tale books was something she always enjoyed. But right now, she is not only excited to read a new book, but also to gather some knowledge about the world she is in. Apart from knowing that she transmigrated into a girl’s body, who is as pretty as a goddess and has a loving family, she has no other information. She doesn’t know if the place she transmigrated is her real world, or a parallel world. She could be inside a book too, since she has read many science fiction books where the FL is blonde. But her memory, or rather ‘Bella’s’ memory is completely blank. As if she had just been born the day she, Ann opened her eyes. If she wants to live in this world, knowing about it is essential. That’s why she showed eagerness to learn the language.

“Can I read?”

Bella asks with her newly learned grammar and sweet honeyed voice. Now she doesn’t feel ashamed at her ‘childish’ voice, she has gotten used to it. Rather, she wants to talk more to have fluency in the newly learned language.

Blake looks at his sister sitting beside him and looking up at him with eager eyes. With her big blue eyes wide open, even if she wants a nebula, he will gladly bring it to her. Letting her reading a book is a very small request compared to that. But he also knows that she hasn’t learned many words so reading may be a little difficult for her. Still, he hands over the tablet without asking any questions.

Bella grabs the tablet and looks at it with curious eyes. It’s not that she never saw any tab before, she even had a few tabs for working purposes. But the tab in her hand is different. It has a pentagon shape, both corners on the top are bent to downside. Not only that, some words were written on the sides and behind the tab, like how a book has its name and the author’s name written on it. The moment she touched the tab, its screen lit up, and the picture of a girl in pink long hair and a pink dress adorning her body popped up. The picture is drawn in an animatic way, like how a Japanese anime or manga is drawn. On top of the screen, some words in a cursive but elegant manner were written inside a golden leaf like pattern.

The Pink Princess?

Bella couldn’t understand if she pronounced it right or wrong so she read it to Blake. Seeing him nodding in appreciation and praising her for recognising the words, she understood that what she read wasn’t wrong. The book (?) is actually about a princess who has pink hair. Feeling curious and excited, she began to read the book.

“Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess with shimmering pink hair…”

Her voice began to resound through the empty and quiet living room. Blake listens to her reading with a smile on his face. If she ever gets stuck in a word, he helps her read it and explain the word for her to understand it. Like this, their two hours of learning passed reading the fairy tale book.
