Carlothian was walking towards me with a face that seemed like he was about to kill someone.
“Miss Ariadeline!”
The maids came rushing to me with pale, frightened faces.
‘I knew you’d call for him!’
One of the maids hurriedly helped me up, her eyes widening.
“Your Grace!”
Their voices carried astonishment and anger. Well, who wouldn’t be furious with the trash causing such a disturbance in the mansion?
At the maids’ call, Carlothian glanced at me once and contorted his face in a way that couldn’t be more distorted, like a furious wild beast.
Thud.
He shrugged off his jacket and threw it at me. Oh boy, how did he know I needed this? How thoughtful.
The maids picked up the jacket and draped it over my shoulders, tightening it firmly around me.
Seemingly shocked, one of the maids even started to sob.
‘Ouch.’
As I tried to get up, my ankle throbbed. I must have twisted it when I fell.
“Count Doffleman.”
Carlothian’s voice, like a cold blade, reached my ears. I silently cheered him on.
‘Take care of such a nuisance immediately!’
“Daring to cause trouble in my mansion.”
His voice was low and sharp. I found myself intensely curious about how he would handle the Count.
“Why are you getting so angry, Your Grace? Surely you’re not angry that I’ve made the sinner look like that?”
“…….”
Carlothian fell silent for a moment. Oh no, he’s not going to back down, is he? I stared intently at his back, my anticipation growing.
“Ugh!”
His hand instantly gripped the Count’s throat. The force was so strong that Doffleman’s body was lifted off the ground.
Carlothian spoke in a low, sinister voice.
“First.”
Even though I couldn’t see his face, I could imagine how intense his gaze must have been.
“I don’t like disturbances in my mansion.”
Crunch, crack.
“Grrk, ack…”
“Second.”
His tone was not a warning. It sounded more like the voice of a judge pronouncing a sentence.
“Everything in my mansion belongs to me—servants, objects, whatever it may be.”
“Ugh…….”
The Count’s eyes were now completely rolled back. Carlothian threw him to the ground.
Thud.
“Gah, hah…”
“And I don’t take kindly to anyone touching my belongings.”
As Carlothian turned back, our eyes met. Wow. What an intense glare! I know well that I’ve caused trouble, too.
I quickly lowered my head as he addressed the Count.
“I think it’s best we don’t discuss business matters any further.”
“Ackk, Your Grace…!”
The Count had a look of resentment in his eyes, wondering how he could do this to himself. I secretly stuck out my tongue behind Carlothian.
Nyah, serves you right.
“If you want to walk out of here on your own two feet.”
A cold dismissal was immediately issued.
“Leave right now.”
Carlothian turned around. As expected, he’s the perfect sub-male lead! Cold! Fierce! As I reached out to him, he immediately frowned.
Then he picked me up with the jacket. Oh, I didn’t ask to be picked up. I meant to encourage him, like, “fighting!”
“Don’t you have any sense?”
Suddenly?
“What’s with this situation right now?”
He seemed to scold me without even looking at me directly. What’s up? Is he really mad? I glanced up at him. Carlothian’s face was stiff and serious.
Hmm, should I apologize? Well, it was a bit reckless. But still, I knew you’d come.
I tugged at the collar of his shirt. His gaze slid down to me.
“S-Sorry…”
As I apologized timidly, he furrowed his brows again. Why again? What’s wrong? When I looked at him cluelessly, he sighed deeply.
‘Do you always sigh in front of people?’
I grumbled, and before I knew it, we were in my room.
He laid me down on the bed and said,
“Bring her clothes to change into.”
“Your Grace, about that…”
The maids exchanged uncertain glances. Carlothian looked at them with a face asking what the problem was.
“Well, it’s just that, Your Grace, Miss Ariadeline only has that one set of clothes.”
“What?”
Carlothian raised one eyebrow as if this were a problem he had never even considered.
But that was the truth. The only clothes I had were the temple robes I wore from the temple.
Following their divorce, it appeared as though he had disposed of all of Ariadeline’s clothing. Which meant that there was not a single piece of women’s clothing left in the manor.
“Then how have you been living until now?”
‘Just managing with this.’
Wearing, washing, wearing, washing.
When I looked at him with a blank expression, he became serious.
“For now, wear my clothes. They’ll be a bit big, but they’ll cover you. And contact a clothing store immediately.”
“Where should I send the message?”
“Anywhere.”
“Understood.”
But neither of us knew that finding clothes would prove to be as difficult as catching stars in the sky.

“You were rejected?”
“Yes.”
“All of them?”
“Yes.”
Carlothian looked at the butler’s bewildered face.
If the butler himself was this flustered, how absurd must Carlothian feel?
“Where did you place the orders?”
“Verburan, Doroshe, Payerin, and others. I placed orders at five different renowned clothing stores, but…”
The aforementioned clothing stores were the most renowned in the empire. As the Duke of Denaves, they couldn’t just go to any ordinary clothing store.
At first, each and every one of them welcomed Denaves’s request with open arms. And then every single one of them asked ‘that’ question.
“But for whom exactly?”
Duke Carlothian Denaves was now a bachelor, and yet he was trying to find a woman’s dress.
That was clearly a harbinger of a huge scandal. The madams running the clothing stores had to have sharp ears for rumors.
So, they listened attentively to the servants who came to deliver the request. But the responses they received were all the same.
‘We wish to have a dress made for Miss Ariadeline.’
The reaction from the clothing stores was the same as the question.
‘Ariadeline?’
‘Surely not that Ariadeline?’
‘The wicked woman?’
The clothing store madams immediately waved their hands in refusal and conveyed their disapproval to the servants.
‘We can’t make a dress for that wicked woman.’
‘Isn’t she the sinner who almost killed the Crown Princess?’
‘If word got out that our store made a dress for that woman, we’d have to close down!’
Thus, the servants who went to deliver the request returned empty-handed and disheartened.
“I guess she has to go out herself.”
Carlothian set down his pen and stood up from his seat. The butler gave him a puzzled look.
“Are you going out together?”
He clicked his tongue in annoyance.
“If they treat the request I personally made like this, how do you think they’d handle it if I sent her alone?”
“That’s true, but…”
“Better settle this quickly before it interferes with other matters.”
“Shall I prepare, then?”
“Go ahead.”
“Then I’ll leave a message for Miss Ariadeline.”
With that, the butler left the office, and Carlothian went to his dressing room to change.
The butler, walking down the hallway, suddenly remembered something and stopped in his tracks.
‘Come to think of it, even when they were married, they never went out together…’
Somehow, it felt a bit poignant.
And so the preparations for the two of them to go out began.
First, since Ariadelin had no clothes to wear immediately, the maids in charge scurried to search their own closets.
“These won’t fit her.”
“This one will be too big, right?”
“Mari’s size is similar.”
“Still, it might be too big.”
Ariadeline was naturally slender, but living in the temple had made her even thinner.
‘Poor Miss Ariadeline.’
The maids chose the smallest dress they could find for her.
The modest green dress was a bit too large for her, making it look like she was wearing someone else’s clothes.
‘There’s no helping it for now.’
As the maids looked awkwardly at her, Ariadeline smiled broadly, her thoughts unreadable.
The maids smiled back at her. It was a similar feeling to the obligation to smile back when a child smiles at you.
She was a woman who had lost her mind due to the hardships she endured as a sinner. Ariadeline stood in exactly that position within the mansion.
“You can wear my shoes.”
The maid, Alice, brought smooth brown shoes. These were the shoes she had splurged on recently.
To Ariadeline, who had once been the Duchess, these shoes might seem very insignificant, but to Alice, they were the most precious thing.
‘I can’t give her old shoes.’
Since Alice was the only one whose foot size matched, it was only right that she offer her own shoes.
For some reason, Ariadeline stared intently at the shoes. Alice blushed momentarily.
‘Are they too cheap-looking?’
But Ariadeline soon smiled broadly and greeted her.
“Thank you so much. I’ll wear them carefully and return them.”
“Oh, no need for that…”
The maid hurriedly bowed her head and began to help Ariadeline put on her shoes.
Alice felt her ears burning. She thought it must be because she was being thanked for such a small thing.
The fact that they were shoes she cherished dearly seemed to fade away. The shoes, fitting snugly on Ariadeline’s white feet, looked even more beautiful than usual.
‘I should handle sponsored items with care.’
Ariadeline delicately adjusted the shoes.
“Are you ready?”
Carlothian then arrived at Ariadeline’s room.
He literally never gave her a chance and is shocked she expects nothing from him. I want the demon in the sword to come back and learn him some more
I really hope he grovels till his face scarbs on the floor, i hate him so much poor og ariadeline had to live with this pos
oh my God.. this novel is so sad.. Aria, why do you have to waste your life and your time to love him.. can you choose someone who love you instead who will make you happy..
it’s too much for me reading your story
I hope in the end you find happiness whatever it is that you hope
I still can’t believe the servants in this story are so decent and treat her kindly.
Ariadeline was a Duke’s daughter. She could have anything she wanted but what went wrong to love someone as pathetic as him. I can’t believe he is the ML.
