“………..”

Achilles, with a very strange expression on his face, was doing the same thing as the men who brought drinks to her.

Letticia stared at him without realizing it, prompting Achilles to frown and speak gruffly.

“…Don’t misunderstand. I just learned that it’s manners to bring snacks to the women sitting at the same table.”

“Don’t worry, I don’t think this counts as courtship.”

More than ten men had lined up earlier to do what Achilles was now reluctantly doing.

Compared to their predatory gazes, Achilles’s expression clearly showed he was doing this out of obligation, not as a courtship gesture.

‘That’s really a relief.’

Letticia felt reassured that it wasn’t the clichéd scenario of the original female lead’s brother falling for her, and took a spoonful of ice cream.

The cold treat calmed her previously sharp nerves.

“The next dance is a gavotte. Aren’t you going to dance, Sir Achilles?”

At Kenneth’s words, Letticia felt a chill and glanced at her cousin. If Achilles asked her to dance after hearing that, she would throw all of Kenneth’s cherished piano scores into the fireplace.

But fortunately, Achilles gave a negative response.

“I didn’t learn the gavotte. Besides, I don’t attend balls often.”

“Indeed, you must be busy with your duties in the Knights. It must be hard to attend balls. That makes you a very rare guest tonight.”

“Well, as long as I’m in the capital, I can’t completely avoid attending balls.”

Achilles’s normal response was so unusual that Letticia momentarily wondered if his character was falling apart.

‘Wasn’t he almost supposed to be a muscle-brained character? I think that’s how the author described him…’

Achilles was a simple, emotional, and impulsive person. That’s why, five years ago, he rushed over as soon as he misunderstood that Letticia was bullying his sister.

Yet now, he was adhering to manners and common sense just like everyone else, which felt as strange as seeing a dog talk.

“….Sir Achilles can say such things?”

Achilles, noticing her slip of the tongue, replied with a slightly offended expression.

“Hey, do you think I’m a person who lives without any thoughts?”

“I think you’re a person who speaks informally to other nobles without their permission.”

When Letticia glared and made a sarcastic remark, Achilles’s face turned red as he realized he had been speaking informally to her.

However, Achilles’s reaction was completely unexpected.

“…..I apologize for that. It was indeed rude, as you said, Lady.”

“Huh?”

Instead of getting angry, Achilles’s apology almost made Letticia drop her spoon. But Achilles, determined, continued speaking despite Letticia’s reaction.

“I was very rude to you at the academy five years ago. At the time, I didn’t understand, but looking back now, I realize I was wrong to act without solid evidence.”

“….Have you had a hard time in the Knights?”

Letticia wondered if the Knights had an effect similar to military training. Some old-fashioned nobles often said that going to the army makes you mature, but perhaps they meant the Knights.

“Even if five years have passed… No, I’m sincerely apologizing because I believe it was my fault.”

Although he briefly lost his temper, Achilles patiently apologized again, leaving Letticia feeling confused.

‘What’s this, some kind of self-cleaning? What’s going on…’

Unable to respond, her cousin Kenneth stepped in.

“If Sir Achilles’s apology is sincere, we have nothing more to ask for. Letticia is just a bit surprised, not doubting your sincerity, so please don’t be offended.”

“Yes, and congratulations on becoming the Diamond. Ariette was very happy to hear the news, saying that if it were Lady Sharon, she would definitely become the Diamond.”

“Thank you for your kind words. Please convey my thanks to Lady Ariette as well.”

Letticia, pulling herself together, responded with a smile.

However, despite her smiling face, her mind was in turmoil.

‘What is this? Has he come to his senses? Is he really sane? Or has he turned into a different kind of madman?’

Brothers in stories where they’re overly protective of their sisters never lose their excessive affection. Losing that would be losing their core identity.

So perhaps Achilles had just added a human personality to his mix of crazed and large-dog personalities?

‘….It seems the events from five years ago had a butterfly effect.’

Given the clash between the transmigrator and the original character, some changes were inevitable.

From Letticia’s perspective, it’s easier if things go according to the original story, but there’s a reason why the cliché of failing by thinking everything will go smoothly exists.

“Let’s consider if things have really changed.”

Deciding to approach things cautiously, Letticia continued the conversation for a few more minutes.

By the time they finished their ice cream, the Averil siblings finally left, and Letticia enjoyed the ball for a few more hours before heading home.

The next morning, Letticia had asked her maid to wake her up early. Rubbing her sleepy eyes, she somehow made her way to the dining room.

Normally, she would have slept in until 11 o’clock, but she had something important to do that morning.

“Big brother, did you make an appointment with Lord Bright?”

Lenard, who was eating bread while reading the newspaper, frowned at his sister’s question.

Ever since Letticia returned from the Imperial Ball after dancing with Ezkhiel, she greeted her brother by asking if he had arranged a meeting with Ezkhiel.

“I got a reply yesterday. I’ll make a reservation at the shop today and let Kenneth know so he can arrange the schedule.”

“Really? Awesome!”

Lenard took a sip of his tea to calm the headache caused by his sister’s excitement.

How did it come to be that the first man his sister liked was his friend? It was hard to believe.

“Big brother, I danced with Lord Bright.”

“…What?”

It was early morning, after the Imperial Ball had ended. Lenard, who had just returned from night duty, ran into Letticia in the dining room before going to bed.

Feeling proud of his sister, who told him she had been selected for the Diamond, Lenard was surprised to hear she had danced with Ezkhiel.

“One of my partners asked me to dance twice in a row, so Lord Bright helped me out. We danced a waltz together.”

“Did he really attend?”

“What?”

Letticia was puzzled by her brother’s question and asked again.

Lenard explained the situation with a troubled expression.

“I happened to mention your debut, and lightly asked him to help if any weird guys approached you at the ball. He seems to have taken it seriously.”

“So you’re saying he might have attended because of your offhand remark?”

Feeling guilty, she remembered his tired face. Lenard, looking just as awkward, scratched his head.

“I said it casually, but knowing his personality, he wouldn’t have ignored it. I should probably thank him.”

“Oh, I offered to help him shop as a thank-you. If you make the reservation, I’ll help him choose some jewelry.”

“You don’t have to do that. It started because of my request.”

“No, I want to. I want to go shopping with Lord Bright.”

Lenard looked at his sister with a troubled expression.

“Are you interested in Ezkhiel? Do you want to meet him?”

“Yes. I like his appearance and his personality seems great. Out of all the partners I danced with, I liked him the best.”

As Letticia spoke innocently, Lenard’s expression became one of almost horror.

“What exactly do you like about him? He’s so busy he hardly has time to date or dance. Do you two even communicate well?”

“Yes, it was really easy to talk to him! He listened to everything I said seriously and responded sincerely, unlike guys who act all arrogant or pushy. His dancing was a bit clumsy, but not to the point where it was unmanageable.”

“Haaa…”

The more Letticia praised Ezkhiel, the more Lenard looked like he wanted to escape reality.

“Sure, objectively, Ezkhiel is a great husband material. He’s diligent, kind, considerate, speaks well, takes good care of people, and is capable enough to be the Crown Prince’s chief aide. He’s also saved up a good amount of wealth, so marrying now wouldn’t be an issue.”

“He’s the best! Then why do you look like that? What’s the problem? Are you worried things will be awkward if it doesn’t work out between us?”

“Whether you two hit it off from the start or break up later, Ezkhiel will still be my friend. It’s just that…”

Lenard sighed and blurted out,

“…Honestly, I’d feel bad for introducing him to you.”

“You’re such a jerk brother really!”

For the first time in her life, Letticia grabbed her brother by the collar. It was hard to tell if they were siblings or enemies.
