“Big brother! Please take a look at this!”
Matthias, who was resting after finishing his official duties, put down the book he was reading at the sudden call of his younger sister Judith.
Originally, anyone who disturbed his rest would have been kicked out immediately, but he was rather lenient with his stepsiblings, who is nothing like him, and affectionately indulgent towards his sister, who begs so endearingly.
“Judith, I heard you went out of the palace today, looks like you had a good time.”
“Yes! I went to Lenny’s house. Here, it’s a picture Lenny and I drew together.”
At the mention of Lenny’s house, Matthias furrowed his brow slightly, but seeing the picture his sister offered, he smiled. Seeing her brother smile, Judith followed suit and then handed him an envelope.
“And this, she asked me to give it to you, Big brother.”
“She asked you? Did she say anything to you?”
“Yes. She asked me to give it to you when I returned from Lenard’s.”
Matthias looked suspiciously at the envelope, taken aback by the unexpected words.
If Count Sharon had something to ask, he would ask his stepmother, Empress Lilliana, not him, someone he had no close relationship with. Something was strange.
“Did you hear what it’s about?”
“No. She just said it must be given to you, Big brother.”
Judith lowered her head. Matthias didn’t ask further and tore open the envelope in front of his sister.
Inside the envelope were papers that appeared to be a letter and a bundle of documents. Matthias picked up the letter first and casually began reading its contents, but his expression gradually hardened.
“Big brother? What’s wrong?”
“…Judith, when are you going to visit Count Sharon house again?”
Judith, puzzled by Matthias’s questioning behavior, answered obediently without addressing his question.
“Mother is going to the Countess’s tea party next week, so I’m going with her. Letticia is coming that day too.”
“Then on that day, I’ll entrust you with a letter to deliver to the young lord of Sharon.”
“Oh, are you planning to write a reply?”
“It’s necessary to address the matter.”
Matthias fell silent after these words, and Judith, not curious about the contents, nodded her head. She was simply pleased that her brother responded to a request from her friend’s brother.
“It’s getting dark. You must be tired from being out all day. Why don’t you rest now?”
“Already? I planned to have dinner with brother Eustace today!”
“Come to think of it, it’s been a while since we saw Eustace. Next time, we should all have dinner at the palace.”
“Hehe, I’ll leave now so you can rest, Big brother!”
Judith, smiling innocently, bid farewell and left with light steps.
Matthias immediately dropped the smile he had given his sister, and with an expressionless face, began to sift through the documents.
The meticulously written documents all contained accusations against someone.
“…I knew something was off. I didn’t expect them to be this incompetent.”
Ralph Barthset. Scheduled to become Matthias’s chief aide after graduation, not because of his ability or character, but because of his background’s influence.
As the son of the capable bureaucrats from the Barthset Duke’s, with his father currently serving as the Minister of Internal Affairs, it was to keep him close, using that leverage.
However, despite his background, Matthias had to resist the impulse to cut ties with him every time they met.
Ralph’s words, despite his noble background, were vulgar and lacking, and while he delivered results when given tasks, he couldn’t properly answer questions about himself.
His grades were dismal, and after failing repeatedly in his original political science major, he switched to public administration.
His grades somewhat improved after the switch, but Matthias suspected it was due to him taking credit for others work.
‘Well, not surprising. But the fact that there’s evidence left like this means he didn’t even consider to hiding it.’
It disgusted Matthias that such an incompetent person, who even manipulated grades through threats and couldn’t handle the aftermath properly, would become his future chief aide.
In that light, having this evidence in his hands now was quite fortuitous.
If this turned out to be true, then disposing of Ralph would not only alleviate any guilt towards the Duke but also put Matthias in a stronger position.
“Letticia Sharon… could be quite useful leverage.”
In Lenard’s letter, there was a concise summary of what his younger sister, Letticia Sharon, had experienced at the academy, along with the clear indication that Ralph had spread false rumors about her.
Spreading rumors disparaging a freshman, especially when the target is the daughter of the esteemed Count of Sharon, who is rumored to be favored by the Empress, is unacceptable.
Even if he were the Minister of Internal Affairs, it would be impossible to sweep this under the rug.
Therefore, Matthias decided to overlook the bitterness of it being conveyed through his still young sister, Judith.
However, that didn’t mean he would unquestionably believe it.
Even if Count of Sharon is keeping a distance from politics, there must be some motive behind such actions.
“What benefit does Count Sharon gain from burying that scoundrel?”
Of course, she could potentially receive substantial compensation from the Barthset Duke for this incident. Nobles, especially those involved in society, treat their reputations almost as their lives.
But for such a simple reason, it didn’t seem likely that Count of Sharon would even contact him. If that were his aim, it would be enough to ask the Empress for a favor.
“Or… could the act of burying this scoundrel itself be the goal?”
It was a casual remark, but it seemed quite plausible.
For Count of Sharon, aside from his successor, the next most important figure is someone involved in society. Given the nature of their business, they need individuals who can play their respective roles in both commerce and society.
In that case, this could be seen as a prime example. It’s a thoroughly aristocratic demonstration that if anyone dares to touch Letticia Sharon, who will be sent out into society in the future, they will face this level of retaliation.
“But isn’t Count Sharon’s successor supposedly majoring in business administration?”
Matthias skimmed through the documents again, checking the dates.
They were all documents recording incidents involving public administration students over the past two years, during which Ralph had been involved.
While it’s common for students from different departments to befriend each other at the academy, it’s not easy to gain such trust to hand over documents containing the Barthset Duke’s corruption.
“We’ll need to investigate the source of these documents. It would be problematic if they were fabricated.”
With a sigh, Matthias called for his secretary and issued several instructions. Although it was inconvenient to deal with more matters amidst his official duties, it was a responsibility he couldn’t ignore.
As the official responsible for handling petitions, it was his duty to verify the authenticity of the evidence and mediate between the Barthset Duke and Count Sharon.
“And make sure to inquire a bit about Lenard Sharon as well… and his younger sister, Lady Letticia.”
***
Letticia knew that karma doesn’t always work automatically.
The day after the hearing, the academy announced that Letticia was innocent and that everything was a misunderstanding caused by Achilles.
However, since not everyone believed the announcement, they went as far as a public performance.
“I am truly sorry for what happened this time.”
Letticia briefly wondered how it would feel to slap that bowed head, apologizing among the countless students in the cafeteria.
Watching Achilles awkwardly bow, Letticia’s brother, Lenard, didn’t point out his improper posture but instead gave a somewhat approving glance. Meanwhile, the twins standing a bit further back seemed still furious, glaring daggers as if their anger hadn’t dissipated at all.
“For believing in baseless rumors spread by others with ill intentions, for grabbing your shoulders and shaking you until you were bruised, for not listening to your words properly and misunderstanding, for shouting at you and threatening you, for making you scared… I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
“…Please raise your head. I understand your intentions, senior.”
Letticia deliberately paused for a moment, nibbling on her lip before speaking in a calm tone. Achilles was taken aback by the unfamiliar calmness in her voice.
“Are that’s means you’ll forgive me?”
“If senior truly reflects on your actions, I won’t make it an issue anymore. It all started from a misunderstanding, after all.”
Of course, it was just words.
Whether it was a misunderstanding or not, the suffering, threats, and anger Letticia had endured wouldn’t disappear with just a forced apology. Could she forgive him for that alone?
But thanks to Achilles’s public apology, the gazes of the students looking at Letticia changed.
“Would young lord Averil apologize like that?”
“Seems like it was really just a misunderstanding.”
“So, does that mean all the rumors were lies?”
“Wouldn’t that be the case? If young lord Averil cherishes Lady Averil so terribly, there’s no way he’d apologize in front of everyone if the rumors floating around were true.”
Although it did not help at all, sje could finally feel relieved that a little benefit had been gained from the current situation.
About a week after Achilles’s apology, this time, disciplinary actions against Sophia and Josephine were announced.
The reasons cited were excessive insults and defamation against Letticia, defamation and spreading false information resulting in defamation of character, and perjury during the hearing.
And finally, two weeks later, Ralph Barthset withdrew from the academy.
It was a mystery why Ralph withdrew. The reason given by the Barthset Duke’s was a common excuse citing health issues, but no one believed it to be true.
However, considering recent stories he enthusiastically shared were baseless rumors aimed at defaming Letticia, spreading significant distortion and nonsense, it was reasonable to conclude he fled before the academy issued disciplinary action.
Even that alone was remarkable, but what was even more surprising was that after his withdrawal, the academy officially disclosed all the misconduct Ralph had committed.
From taking the leadership position, doing nothing himself, and treating other team members like slaves to complete assignments, disguising it as if he had contributed the most, to blackmailing high-achieving students to do assignments for him, it was shocking enough.
But when it was revealed that he even swapped exam papers, the Department of Public Administration was completely turned upside down.
Professors and teaching assistants had to work overtime for weeks, digging through old records and rewriting transcripts, as they had to reassess previous performance evaluations. Professors who overlooked his misconduct also faced consequences.
At a time when all students were curious about how the corruption of the duke’s son had been revealed in such detail, Matthias, who attended the academy after a long absence, disclosed that there had been accusations against Ralph’s misconduct.

The Sharon Family is extremely cool with every single person.
Well, no wonder Sharon’s family is one of the families favored by the empress, they are filled with smart and talented people. 🤯
So true! 💯
They were so thorough! I’m full of admiration and compliments right now! (Towards the Sharon family AND the author! Usually stories aren’t that detailed/thorough) ✨🤩❤️🔥💖✨
Perhaps the author wants to show the process in detail, hence the raw novel is also about 300 chapters now, and will still be updated every week. 😂🤯
Wait whose Matthias? The prince? But since when did the prince have a younger sis??
Its mentioned in chapter 7, Judith is his step young sister from empress liliana
