“I’m really sorry that Lady Sharon had to go through such distress because of my improper behavior. If only I hadn’t cried unnecessarily, you wouldn’t have had to bear false accusations or endure such ridiculous rumors. Oh, and I’m truly sorry for what my big brother Achilles did to Lady Sharon. I’ll apologize on behalf of him.”
The reactions to the rapid-fire apology varied among the people present.
“Arie! Why on earth are you apologizing? There’s no need for that!”
Achilles was furious.
“Arie, I’ve told you multiple times that you don’t need to apologize for something that wasn’t your fault.”
Alexander spoke affectionately but seemed equally angry.
“Arie, go back to your room quickly. I told you not to come out because I was worried about you…”
The Duke tried to turn Ariette’s shoulders back towards the room, wrapping his arm around her shoulder.
Letticia’s patience reached its limit again amid this spectacle.
“Lady Averil.”
“Y-yes?”
Ariette, who was restless among her family members trying to dissuade her, raised her head at Letticia’s call, and her face turned pale when she saw Letticia who was angry to the core.
“As you can see, the lady’s family has already branded me as a villainess who harassed you. They don’t believe what lady’s herself says and are under the illusion that they are the knights who will save the princess. No matter how much lady apologizes to me, now In this situation, it is counterproductive.”
“Th-that’s…”
Ariette also lowered her head, indicating she was aware of this fact.
Despite seeing the vulnerability of Ariette, the Triumvirate remained composed, but Letticia, fueled by anger, continued speaking.
“If you’re sorry for me, could you tell me why you cried that time? We’ve been talking about that question for almost an hour, and they keep insisting that there is no evidence that I didn’t harass the lady’s, which is really killing me.”
“Father, big brothers!”
Hearing Ariette’s outcry, her family turned to her with puzzled expressions.
Witnessing her daughter’s unprecedented behavior, the Duke’s eyes widened, and her brothers looked at Ariette with confusion.
“The reason I cried really has nothing to do with Lady Sharon. It’s just that I’m worried because I feel like I’m not good enough and I’m not sure if I can keep up with the class. Rather, Lady Sharon is kind to me and teaches me things I don’t know. Why on earth would you do something to someone like that…”
“But Arie, Lady Sharon mentioned our mother to you!”
“I asked her! I wanted to know why our mother didn’t have a good standing in the capital’s social circles. Lady Sharon simply answered my question.”
“Then what about being rejected from the gathering? Weren’t you upset about that?”
“I was upset, but it was because I almost caused trouble for Lady Sharon. I realized I had been too careless about my status, which made Lady Sharon uncomfortable.”
Ariette’s words only served to prove Letticia’s innocence.
Realizing that everything they believed was wrong, the Triumvirate was shocked and turned to Ariette, speechless.
“Arie, are you really telling the truth? You can be honest.”
“If you’re worried we’ll punish her too harshly, don’t be. We’ll make sure she only receives the punishment she deserves.”
“Who are you to punish my sister, huh? She didn’t do anything wrong from the beginning.”
Lenard responded incredulously to Alexander and Achille’s remarks.
Letticia almost told him to stop spouting nonsense but managed to restrain herself from speaking.
“No, Lady Sharon was really kind to me. She taught me laws and what not to do. I wanted to learn those things, but I was struggling in class, and Lady Sharon helped me understand.”
“I see.”
After Ariette finished speaking, Lenard looked at Alexander and Achilles with a stern expression.
Achilles looked choked up, but Lenard spoke sharply to him without batting an eye.
“There is also the lady’s testimony, so you don’t have anything more to refute, right? Surely you won’t doubt your young sister’s words.”
“Arie has always been good at comforting others, she’s just too kind…”
Achilles was still insisting, but he seemed less confident, lacking the same determination in his voice as before.
“Do you think that by covering it up, it makes everything okay? If someone says that’s not my young sister fault, you should believe them, why don’t you believe it? It’s because of your unfounded assumptions that this situation even arose in the first place, despite lady’s saying my young sister not involved.”
“Well…”
Achilles seemed like he wanted to say something, but he could barely utter a word in response to Lenard’s logic.
Following that momentum, Patrick pressed the Duke with a tone as if delivering a final warning.
“It seems that this is proof enough that my daughter didn’t harass the lady’s. Yet, are you still going to continue this fight? Are you going to continue to upset the lady, who came all the way here to prove my daughter’s innocence?”
“…Arie, are you really telling the truth?”
The Duke’s gaze wavered as he looked at Ariette.
It was a bewildered look in the face of a truth he couldn’t possibly accept.
However, without hesitation, Ariette nodded firmly.
“Yes. Lady Sharon did nothing wrong to me. I can swear for it.”
“…So you’re not protecting Lady Sharon?”
“No, absolutely not.”
“…That’s a relief.”
As Ariette nodded once again, a sense of relief briefly crossed the Duke’s face.
“Now that the facts are clear, shall we properly assess the damages and responsibilities resulting from this incident?”
Camilla, with a disdainful expression towards the Duke, didn’t even give him a chance to gather his thoughts before moving on to the next topic.
Now that the justification was fully on Letticia’s side, it seemed like they didn’t need to be as cautious with their words anymore.
“As a result of this incident, Letticia suffered from rumors that she harassed Lady Averil, and she was subjected to threats, physical violence, and even assault by the unjust accusations of the young lord. The damage my daughter endured is beyond words. Not only her reputation but also the mental anguish and physical pain she experienced.”
“……….”
Silence befell the members of the Duke’s entourage in the face of Camilla’s comprehensive argument. There was hardly any room for rebuttal, given the undeniable facts.
“Count Sharon will demand the academy to thoroughly expose and publicly disclose the wrongdoings of all students involved in this incident and take appropriate actions. The reasons for disciplinary action include assault and threats, defamation, and slander in the case of Lady Averil. Lady Hilmarin and Lady Kairon are accused of false testimony, defamation, and slander causing reputational damage. The disciplinary action for the students from the Department of Public Administration will be determined after investigation.”
“Understood. We will publicly announce the punishment for student Averil and the other students involved in the Academy shortly. We will also address the harm suffered by Lady Sharon. Then, regarding this matter-”
“Wait a moment. It’s not over yet.”
Patrick intervened to stop the principal’s attempt to wrap up the discussion. Knowing Patrick’s aggressive nature once a fight started, there was no way he would settle for such lenient consequences.
“Our demands to the Academy are as my wife stated earlier, but there is still a demand for Duke Averil.”
“…What is it?”
When the Duke asked in a much softer tone than before, Patrick replied firmly, indicating there was no room for negotiation.
“To restore the honor of my daughter Letticia, the perpetrator, young lord Averil, must publicly apologize to Letticia in front of the students. And both the Duke and young lord Averil must apologize for the insulting remarks they made to my daughter earlier.”
“…Understood. It’s our responsibility to make amends for our mistakes.”
When the Duke conceded, Alexander and Achilles’s expressions reflected their humiliation. Despite knowing they were in the wrong, the idea of having to apologize was deeply shameful.
It was clear that acknowledging their wrongdoing and actually apologizing were two separate matters, each carrying its own sense of disgrace.
“Is that all?”
“Not yet. There is one more thing.”
“One more thing? What could it be this time?”
In response to the Duke’s question, Patrick spoke with his usual calm demeanor.
“We demans Duke Averil gave a visible form of apology for Letticia.”
“Are you now bargaining with your daughter’s pain?”
The Duke slammed his hand on the table. Achilles looked incredulous, while Alexander shot a disdainful glance.
Letticia pondered who dared to look at her father with such eyes and entertained the thought of gouging them out.
“Instead of comforting your daughter’s wounds, you demand compensation for the wounds she received? Is the count still a father who raises his daughter despite all this?”
“It seems the Duke fails to understand why I’m making such a demand.”
Patrick regarded the Duke with an expression that suggested he found him foolish.
“Because of this incident, Letticia’s name was raised in social circles. Of course, in a negative sense. The daughter of Count Sharon, who is attracting public attention, was singled out as the perpetrator.”
“But? What does that have to do with your current demand?”

Oh thank God. Considering the summary for this novel I can’t imagine the 3 of them will remember this lesson for a long time to come, but hopefully they’ll at least actually fucking listen to the girl they claim to care so deeply for. 🙄🙄🙄 Though those suitors are definitely going to be an issue.
And maybe, if they hadn’t all blown their fucking lids like they did, maybe Ariette and Letty could have had an amicable relationship, benefiting her in the long run. I don’t think it occurs to people like this just how many people and opportunities they may be driving away from they person they claim to love and desire to protect.
Oh my fricking God. If I could just isekai myself in there and srtangle these mofo, I would if I can!!!!
