In response to Patrick’s question, the principal glanced sideways towards the duke and answered.
“Well, I heard that there are places where roads are blocked due to construction, so people often eat meals closer to the building where they take classes rather than at a restaurant near the undergraduate building.”
Seeing Lenard nodding his head as well, it seemed like that was right. Letticia was at a loss for words due to the duke’s ongoing nuisance.
“Does that mean she only conveyed the news purely out of goodwill?”
“Yes. According to student Harper, that news was intentionally mentioned towards the end of class just in case student Averil might run off. But when he hearing it even before the class ended, he immediately dashed off…”
For some reason, he arrived right after class ended. I didn’t know whether I should be glad that he didn’t jump in during the class.
“First of all, the rumor seems to have been spread by other students who saw Arriete Averil in the morning, but I think we need to verify the maids testimony now. Student Sharon, can you tell us the story of that time?”
Letticia answered the principal’s question by recalling the conversation of that day.
“Since the lady expressed her interest in joining my gathering, I suggested trying a one-day experience first. However, the meeting was canceled due to a horseback riding class, so we decided to have it at lady’s place. The lady brought Eflor tea leaves, and I brewed the tea.”
“Eflor? Even though Arie treated you to that-”
“Achilles, that’s not important right now.”
Alexander stopped Achilles from saying something. Since the Eflor is such a rare tea, I decided to ignore that reaction.
“So, what conversation did you have with student Averil?”
“I taught tea etiquette. When she mentioned adding two spoons of sugar to the tea with milk, I instructed that there was no need to specify sugar preferences, and I also explained what tea food to accompany with Eflore.”
Actually, I didn’t even have that much conversation with Ariette. I just made one or two simple comments, and Ariette was a little embarrassed, but she probably wasn’t the type to cry that much.
However, just one word of criticism was enough to trigger the sudden acceleration of the men’s from duke side anger.
“Criticism? How dare you to Arie?”
“To criticize someone’s manners so carelessly, do you not realize how rude that is? Didn’t the Countess teach you that?”
“Hey, who are you to say something like that to Arie?”
Letticia wanted to hit all three people’s heads with a book because of their bullshit.
Letticia wasn’t the only one who thought that way, and even Lenard, who had been listening quietly the whole time, opened his mouth with an expression of bewilderment.
“From what I heard, it seems that lady Averil wanted to ask Letticia to teach her etiquette. In that case, of course it is Letticia’s job to point out mistakes. But why are you criticizing her for that?”
“If you disgraced your opponent in the name of correcting your mistakes, you are wrong and should be blamed. Not knowing something is not a fault.”
When Alexander spoke as if admonishing, Lenard laughed.%
“If teaching can also be criticized, then why did you criticize the lady’s governess for criticizing your younger sister?”
At the mention of the governess, Achilles clenched his fist for a moment. The Duke and Alexander’s expressions briefly contorted.
It seems that the trauma related to Arriete’s governess was not limited to Ariette herself.
However, Lenard, who had no intention of knowing the circumstances of their household, continued his logical refutation.
“And from what I’ve heard, the maids were standing back and couldn’t hear the conversation properly. At most, they might have caught a few words. In that case, can their testimony be considered reliable?”
“The atmosphere at the time can testify to anything!”
“That’s purely subjective. Even Lady Ariette herself stated that my sister did nothing wrong, so why is the Duke so certain that my sister is at fault?”
“She always hides her pain, even from herself! Even back then-”
“Achilles!”
Despite Achilles’s attempt to speak, Alexander gestured for him to lower his voice. However, Lenard’s following words loosened Achilles restraint.
“In reality, such a thing never happened. Isn’t it just what the young lord wants to believe?”
“What?”
At that moment, Achilles rose with the intention of grabbing Lenard by the collar. His gaze was so intense that if he had a sword in his hand, it seemed like he would have killed him.
“Are you saying I’m delusional? Have you finished speaking?”
“I said it wasn’t her. People only started believing the rumors because of the Duke’s outburst towards my sister. Are you unwilling to admit that you misunderstood and acted wrongly? Are you rationalizing it by convincing yourself that my sister’s words were just lies to cover up her actions?”
“Don’t try to dismiss what happened to my sister like that! Do you think I’m naive enough to fall for your denial? I’m not that stupid!”
“Student Averil, calm down!”
Despite the principal’s attempts to calm Achilles down by standing up and shouting, it was futile. Even Alexander and the Duke seemed uninterested in restraining Achilles.
No, it was because Achilles intervened that they remained silent, but their demeanor seemed as if they had done something.
“Do you think just because you shout loudly enough, anything will become true, young lord? Who accused my sister without evidence-”
“Lenard, that’s enough.”
Camilla quietly stopped Lenard.
Considering the tense atmosphere from the Duke’s side, it seemed dangerous to provoke further. Camilla seemed to have sensed this as her expression darkened slightly.
‘Why are they like that… Wait, didn’t they say it was in the past?’
Among the past events, there was only one incident where Duke Averil could cause such a commotion.
Machioness Irma, the Duke’s sister and the villainess of the Childhood episode.
‘Ah, really, that d*mn Marchioness…’
During the time when Marchioness Irma took control of the duchy, Ariette suffered from abuse from her aunt and her governess.
The governess always wielded the rod whenever Ariette made a mistake, ridiculing her lowly lineage, while Lady Irma mocked her, saying if the family knew what she was going through, she’d be abandoned.
It wasn’t until later, when the family grew to love Ariette, that Marsha finally mustered the courage to reveal the abuse. The family not only condemned Lady Irma but also chastised themselves for not knowing what Ariette had endured.
So, to them, Letticia seemed like a reincarnation of either the governess or Lady Irma.
‘I understand the reasons, but it’s infuriating.’
Even though I knew the situation over there, it was a rare event that made me this angry.
While their experiences are unfortunate, why should Letticia, unfairly accused, consider their circumstances? Moreover, officially, Letticia doesn’t even know about those past events.
“Well, according to student Sharon’s testimony, there doesn’t seem to be a specific reason why student Averil cried, but let’s wait for student Averil to come and talk about it.”
“Now that I think about it, more than 30 minutes have already passed since someone went to call the lady. Why hasn’t she come yet?”
Camilla furrowed her brows as she checked the clock. It takes about 10 minutes from the girls’ dormitory to the main building. Even considering the time to go and return, she should have arrived by now.
“Perhaps she’s taking her time to prepare?”
When the principal spoke reassuringly, Patrick tapped the desk lightly with his finger.
“We don’t have much time either. If we have to postpone lady Averil’s testimony, please bring other witnesses first.”
“Yes, they are waiting outside. Shall I bring them in?”
As the principal gestured to another staff member, the door opened, and four female students entered.
They were Dayna and Dolores, along with Josephine and Sophia.
“Dayna Hailey, Dolores Erskin, Sophia Hilmarin, and Josephine Kairon. Sophia and Josephine are scheduled to testify about the events at the time Sharon was invited.”
“I’m Sophia Hilmarin. I share a close friendship with Lady Averil.”
“I’m Josephine Kairon. It’s truly regrettable to meet under such unfortunate circumstances.”
Upon the principal’s introduction, Sophia and Josephine deliberately showed more courtesy than usual and glanced at the Duke’s group. It seemed they wanted to confirm their position as Ariette’s friends and leave a mark on the Duke’s group this time.
However, their efforts were in vain. The Duke showed indifference towards them, and Achilles only gave them looks urging them to speak faster. Alexander, being naturally inclined towards superficial politeness, was the only one who managed to smile at them.
“So, could you two please tell us about what happened that day?”
“Yes, I understand. So, can we start with Lady Averil talking to Sharon… lady over there after the horseback riding lesson?”
Sophia, who was trying to call her rudely as usual, caught Camilla’s attention and secretly added ‘lady’ to her name.
However, it is unknown whether Sophia is so socially illiterate that she doesn’t know about Camilla, or if she has lost her mind to insult a child in front of her parents.
“Lady Averil said she wanted to join the gathering organized by lady Sharon, and we stopped her out of consideration for her dignity.”
“You stopped her?”
In response to Alexander’s question, Sophia nodded with an expression of obviousness.
“Of course we have to stop it. How can a gathering of a new nobles be at a level where the duke’s daughter can join?”
They wouldn’t know that their reputation was tarnished in the eyes of the duke’s trio due to those words.

Sighing as much as possible while working on these few chapters, due to the behavior of duke Averil’s side. What a contrast in manners between the witnesses of Averil’s side and Sharon’s side. Averil’s witnesses were rude while Sharon’s witnesses tried to think clearly and use the available data or information to defend Letticia. 😮💨
I really can’t understand the Duke and his side. Is being a father or brother such a difficult thing? If you really care about the girl, you should not listen to anyone else and listen to the girl. It’s that simple though.😮💨
The more they tried to defend themselves, the more duke Averil’s side only complicated their own situation. I don’t understand how the Averil trio thinks, in order to protect Ariette they make others seem like the most evil people in the world. 😵💫😵💫
Aaahhhh YAAAYYY 😍🤩😍🤩💘💝💘
You updated and released FOUR new chapters! Thank you so much for your hard work! 🥰🥰

Happy reading, and thanks for reading this storyyy!! 💕💕💕
LENARD! I love you!!!! 🔥💁🏻♂️🗣️❤️🔥💖💝
👀 Lenard is much better at defending and protecting his sister than the Averil’s brothers.
