Count Sharon, Patrick.

He is a handsome, baby-faced man who is said to look like a prince even after he is over 40, and unlike the romanticist image he gained thanks to ‘Love of the Century’, he is a very cool-headed and rational person.

If it had not been so, his marriage to Camilla, the daughter of a great lord and the best bride in society during his youth when the new nobility was looked down on more than now, would not have been this successful.

Upon hearing about the incident involving his daughter Letticia at the academy, Patrick, though maintaining a composed expression, was seething with anger.

“Tell me again, Ren. What happened to Letticia?”

Lenard, deliberately applying for an overnight stay to visit the mansion, explained the details of the incident to his parents.

Camilla’s reaction to the story was quite dramatic.

“Dare to grab my daughter’s shoulders and shake her? Go get that bastard immedietly!”

“Mother, please calm down. Apparently, Letticia retaliated by hitting him with a thick hardback book.”

“Of course she have to do that! Where did she hit him? On the head? In the solar plexus? A vital spot?”

“Darling.”

Trying to calm Camilla, Patrick gestured for her to sit back down and handed her a glass of water. Meanwhile, Patrick, suppressing his emotions, asked in a controlled voice.

“So, they’re claiming that Letticia harassed his youngest sister, spreading rumors throughout the academy, right?”

“Yes. Rumors have even escalated to the point where Letticia allegedly hit Lady Averil.”

“They’re embellishing the situation. Letticia would never do such a thing…”

Patrick tried his best to maintain composure and rationality, thanks in part to Camilla expressing anger on his behalf.

“Moreover, that’s not the only issue.”

Lenard also shared the story he heard from Kenneth.

Hearing rumors spreading not only in the Liberal Arts department but also in the Public Administration and knights departments, Patrick fell into deep thought.

“If someone is intentionally spreading them, on the day of the hearing, the entire academy will probably know. And if those students tell their parents…”

“Letticia’s future is doomed. It’s not just a matter of society; she’ll be expelled from noble society!”

Camilla, knowing the customs of noble society better than anyone, slammed the table.

While she always had to be cautious when active in high society, she was naturally unable to hide her emotions.

Especially since her daughter had been threatened this time, she couldn’t bear it as a mother.

“First, we need to find out why the Duke of Averil is involved like this. Are they really angry because his youngest daughter was harassed?”

“It seems so. I heard Lady Averil herself denies being harassed, but they refuse to believe her and blame Letticia.”

“Even when his daughter says so herself? Is that an excuse, or are they trying to fight with our family?”

“Rather than that, he won’t hear anything. He will be rude to other women and will showered her with love like he was going to give her his liver and gallbladder cause she’s the daughter from the women that he’d love.”

Camilla, who had encountered the duke in high society in her younger days, spoke firmly.

She was relieved when she heard they’re had gone down to the east, a person she never wanted to see again, but why did fate bring them together like this again?

“Perhaps they’re trying to use Letticia as an example. If they dare to touch my daughter, or even if rumors spread that they did, they’ll see this outcome.”

“So, regardless of whether Letticia really did it or not, it doesn’t matter? Is that acceptable behavior?”

“I guess he wants to protect his daughter at least that way. In fact, I was surprised that the duke sent his daughter to the capital. I saw how much his dead wife was ostracized by people in the capital.”

Albert Averil, the Duke of Averil, was notorious in the capital’s high society during his youth for being the most unlucky, arrogant, and rude person.

When he first arrived in the capital, many women were attracted to him because of his statue-like appearance and his distinguished background in the empire, but he repaid them all by making them feel humiliated and embarrassed.

“I am so disappointed in the Duke of Averil. How can he not dance even once? There are so many ladies in here and he don’t even bother to introduce himself to anyone!”

“I only greeted the Duke, and I was told to leave! Is that something to say to a lady?”

However, until the Duke married, the assessments of him were a mixture of admiration and disappointment.

However, when the Duke of Averil fell in love with the daughter of a merchant who had been given the title of baronet and announced their engagement, the social world was turned upside down.

Many ladies and their mothers, who had been rudely rejected by the Duke, were deeply humiliated.

They were pushed aside by a woman who was no other than a new-aristocratic person, and who was almost at the bottom of the social circle.

To them, it seemed outrageous that the duke, who was so rude to them, behaves like a gentleman to her.

Their pride was trampled on by the unacceptable situation, and their ill feelings were poured out not on the Duke himself but on the Duchess, who was an easy opponent.

The Duchess, who was never invited to any gatherings and failed to befriend anyone, eventually descended to the eastern part of the empire with the Duke and died without ever setting foot in the capital’s high society again.

Despite Patrick and Camilla’s social standing being the opposite of what was once blessed by society, the duke didn’t get that but since it was the seed sown by the Duke, so to some extent he deserved it.

‘However, his daughter resembles her mother so much…’

Camilla’s head throbbed. Personally disliking the Duke, she sadly found that his actions were all too predictable.

“…An individual who acted as if the entire world revolved around his deceased wife. Now that his wife is gone, he obsesses over a daughter who resembles her. A person like that probably has nothing else important in the world, except for his daughter. Our Letticia might just be considered an obstacle to him.”

“Ah…”

Patrick, hearing this, was at a loss for words. Why should Letticia become a victim due to this irrational love?

“We need to come up with a solution somehow. If the Duke is willing to go to any lengths to bury Letticia, then we must use every resource to protect her.”

“Yes. So, we should turn this into a public matter. If the Duke intends to lay Letticia to rest because of some perceived damage, we should do everything in our power to protect her.”

“A public matter?”

“How do you plan to do that, Mother?”

As Patrick and Lenard turned to look, Camilla continued her explanation.

“Tonight, I’m attending the dinner party hosted by the Duchess of Deneve, where influential figures from high society are invited. I’ll address the matter there. I’ll let them know in advance that Letticia almost faced violence at the hands of Duke Averil’s son at the academy, and people are spreading baseless rumors due to misunderstandings.”

“But will people believe that it’s just a rumor? It might even spread more because of that.”

“We should focus on Duke Averil’s love for his daughter. He even went so far as to rebuild the academy building because of his daughter.”

“Ah, so it seems Averil Duke intentionally caused all this trouble?”

Initially, the academy buildings were equipped with fire prevention systems. So, unless arson was directly involved, there couldn’t have been a fire. Besides, if it were arson, the academy authorities wouldn’t have remained silent.

Nevertheless, the fact that it was quietly passed over meant that the intervention of the powerful was undoubtedly present.

“That’s right. Even the ongoing construction work was delayed due to it, causing damage.”

“Yes. It’s even difficult to go out for lunch now because of the blocked roads.”

Lenard’s lament was not an exaggeration.

Originally, the plan was to remodel several old buildings of the academy during the vacation. However, due to a request from the duke to work on a pavilion, that project took precedence, causing inconvenience for students who still face disruptions in their passage.

It’s not just a matter of not starting construction; once it began, the delay meant the roads would remain impassable until the construction was completed.

It is not uncommon to have to take 30 minutes to take a route that would take 10 minutes, so even professors understand when they are late.

“Portraying the Duke of Averil as someone who takes the life of others due to his daughter, creating a significant misunderstanding, will help rectify Letty’s honor. Even if there are baseless rumors circulating within the academy, ultimately, Letty’s evaluation will be judged in the social circle.”

And that high society is Camilla’s domain. Patrick, his expression brightening at his wife’s words, said to Lenard,

“Then your mother will handle high society, and as you mentioned earlier, you investigate the person who spread the rumors. We need to resolve the rumor issue perfectly even during the inquiry.”

All misunderstandings about Letticia must be resolved entirely during the inquiry.

Suspicions have already started to stick, and if such matters are not resolved early, there’s a high possibility they will be accepted as facts.

“How far are you willing to go? Should we, at least, force those who first spread the rumors to withdraw from the academy?”

Mentioning expulsion seemed too casual, but when it comes to Letticia’s honor, the measures must be firm.

To his son’s question, Patrick pondered briefly before nodding decisively.

“I don’t think that will be enough. Rumors and suspicions are like sparks. Once they catch fire, the traces cannot be erased. In that case, even if traces remain, we should completely extinguish them to prevent the fire from reigniting.”

Patrick spoke in a harsh tone that did not match his extremely kind and gentle face..

“Even if those students are expelled from their families, it’s not more important than Letticia’s future.”

Glad to know that! ❤❤❤ please wait for next update to see what Sharon family will do for Letty! 🧐

  3. Yes says:

I really hope OG FL won’t just stand still and do nothing and actually face her family clearly, although she already is doing that, she needs to be more convincing, that would resolve the misunderstanding quickly

    1. louyve says:

I don’t think she can do that quickly since her brothers and father didn’t want to hear whatever she said. 🥲🥲🥲

  4. Cathe says:

Oooh 😮 now I’m even more curious than I already was about how they might resolve this conflict! 😳
Both families are impressive and mighty on their own accord and are trying to guess their motives and outsmart each other. But given that one is more extreme and delusional (and apparently already has a “bad” past) while the other is more level-headed and is actually guessing correctly their character and personality (and therefore better at predicting their actions), I think it’s easy to guess who will win the argument… but I’m still seriously curious on the “how”! 🤩
