The professor’s statement about not restricting visitors was indeed true. Although friends couldn’t come in, family visits were allowed, even cousins.

As soon as Letticia returned to the dormitory, Marianne rushed over upon hearing the news through Dayna, and upon explaining the situation, immediately summoned Kenneth and Lenard.

“We must inform this to uncle quickly.”

After the four gathered in Letticia’s room, Marianne was the first to speak.

“This is truly unbelievable. It’s well-known that Duke Averil loves his youngest daughter dearly, but I never thought it would be to this extent. How could he grab and shake Letty in front of people without even verifying the facts?”

“Seems like he’s obsessed with his younger sister. Judging by the way he calculates, valuing a single tear from his own sister as equal to one of his sister’s arms.”

Lenard, usually composed, spoke with sarcasm. His expression didn’t change much, but his tone revealed the anger beneath.

“And the situation is serious. Rumors have already spread everywhere.”

Kenneth, whose eyes were usually half-closed, widened them as he spoke, making Letticia jump up.

“Already spread? It hasn’t even been a few hours!”

“Yeah. On the way here, my friends from the Department of Public Administration and the Department of Knights told me about the rumor. Letty was jealous of Lady Averil, so you spoke harsh words to her, made her cry, shamelessly caught her, and then got hit by young lord of Averil.”

“Wait a minute. The Public Administration Department? I could understand for the Knights Department know about that, but the rumor spread to the Public Administration Department already, and it hasn’t even been two hours?”

Lenard furrowed his eyebrows. It made sense for rumors to circulate in the Knights Department, where Achilles was enrolled, but the Public Administration Department had no connection to either Letticia or Achilles. It raised questions about why such rumors were spreading in the Public Administration Department.

Moreover, the speed at which the rumors spread was suspicious. Typically, for such rumors to circulate, it would take at least a day. The fact that Kenneth’s friends, who had no relation to the matter, already knew about it suggested someone intentionally spreading the rumors.

“I don’t know why either. I asked my friends to find out the source of the rumor, but it doesn’t seem easy.”

“Can’t we just silence those spreading the rumor? Maybe smash their heads with a hammer or something…”

“That’s not silencing; that’s take the life out of them. How do you plan to commit murder against someone of the same noble class?”

“Brother, the issue is not about feasibility; we should just refrain from such things!”

“Where did you learn those words? That’s not something a noble should say.”

Faced with realism from Lenard, ethics from Kenneth, and noble etiquette from Marianne, Letticia reluctantly abandoned the idea of physical silencing.

Still, Letticia calmed down a little thanks to expressing her anger and remembered what she had heard earlier.

The prefecture had clearly stated that a hearing would be held, and in the current situation, Letticia was the victim.

“For now, I’ll be considered the victim in the hearing, right?”

“That’s correct. Being of the same noble class, and assaulting a younger girl, there should be sufficient grounds for summoning a guardian. Moreover, they are from the Knights Department, and you’re from the Liberal Arts Department, making it a significant issue.”

Lenard nodded, but his expression remained somber.

“But the more substantial problem is the rumor spreading throughout the academy. They might use it as a pretext to portray you as the aggressor over there.”

“It seemed that way. He didn’t appear willing to believe that his own sister could be innocent.”

“Then they might see it as an opportunity to reveal the truth and try to bury you in the process.”

“As if that pale head didn’t hurt me by grab and shake on my shoulders!”

Letticia expressed her irritation, but Lenard’s expression remained dark.

“Even if you admit to the fact, you’ll likely face punishment for harassing Lady Averil. Otherwise, they might seek private revenge, especially considering the immense affection Duke Averil seems to have for his youngest daughter.”

Hearing this conversation weighed even heavier on her heart.

Aren’t those people now believing that Letticia is the perpetrator who harassed Lady Averil?

“In the first place, it is much more difficult to prove that you did not do something like this than to prove that you did it. No, in fact, it should be considered impossible. If one of the witnesses gives ambiguous testimony, they can drive you away with that.”

“You know that time I was talking with her in Lady Averil’s room? When the maids saw it, I think they assume that I was persecuting their young lady.”

Considering that their glaring at Letticia when she left, it could be quite possible. Even thought they are maids belonging to the dukedom, they are still rude maids who sending such disrespectful at the daughter of the count.

“Maid testimonies might undermine credibility due to their affiliation with that family. The real issue lies in the students testimonies.”

“Well, your friend, that girl, offered to gather testimonies.”

“Ah, Dayna?”

“Yes, she said she’ll talk to others tomorrow and gather statements. She’s planning to testify on your behalf during the hearing.”

Witnesses on Letticia’s side have been partially secured, but facing the Duke’s family still felt daunting.

Even though the Count Sharon family is a representative new noble family and has ties to the imperial family, it is a great noble family that is responsible for controlling the wheat production of the empire.

The risk of turning wrong into right through power is too high.

“But Lady Averil supports your statement. Why do they persist in portraying you as the assailant? Can’t they believe their own sister?”

When Marianne raised a valid question, Leticia felt better because she finally felt understood. After all, what that person is doing is absolutely ridiculous even to the other people.

“He keep telling to his young sister that there is no need to protect someone like me, or that I must have done something wrong. It felt like he had branded me as a bad person.”

“How did young lord Averil even hear that rumor in the first place?”

Lenard, who was thinking, questioned. Letticia answered without much thought.

“I don’t know. Maybe he heard it from the maids or someone from the Knights Department.”

“When was it discovered that Lady Averil cried?”

“This morning… now that I think about it, it does seem strange.”

Ariette had swollen eyes when she attended school this morning, and immediately after that, there was a class. There was hardly any time for the liberal arts students to spread rumors.

If there was any time, it would be during lunch, but the northern cafeteria, where liberal arts students usually eat, is in the opposite direction from the southern one, where the Knights Department is located.

“Didn’t the maids go to report to young lord of Averil or something? They seemed like maids brought from the duchy.”

“…That’s a possibility, but it involves the Public Administration Department. The northern cafeteria is used by students from the Public Administration Department as well.”

Lenard seemed lost in thought, and Kenneth wore a slightly suspicious expression at those words.

“Did the rumors from Liberal Arts reach the Public Administration Department? I can understand if it spread through that route.”

“Explaining the connection to the Public Administration Department is one thing, but how it reached the Knights Department from there is the issue. The Public Administration and Knights Departments don’t share the same cafeteria, and their buildings are far apart.”

Although they considered several possibilities, no clear answer emerged.

Letticia, feeling a headache, expressed her frustration.

“I really worked hard, and now, because of that brat, what has become of all this? Can I continue my academy life, make my debut in society with this situation? Even if they turned me into an enemy of the Averil family, isn’t my image already ruined in the social circles?”

“…I’ll discuss this matter thoroughly with Mother and Father. I’ll do my best to prevent any damage to your reputation, so brace yourself and wait.”

Lenard firmly stated in response to his sister’s lament.

Despite their usual banter, in moments like this, Letticia felt fortunate to have such a reliable older brother.

“For now, I’ll explain the situation to our parents in a letter. Kenneth, you investigate the source of the rumors. I’ll look into the Public Administration Department, but the Knights Department is your responsibility.”

“Got it. I’ll ask around diligently among my friends.”

“And Mari, you’ll handle communication between Letticia and her friends. Currently, family visits are allowed, but nothing beyond that.”

“I’ll do my best.”

Marianne also nodded with a serious expression. Even though she tended to avoid mingling with strangers, she seemed well aware of the gravity of the situation.

“Those who caused Letty’s situation and those who spread the assisting rumors should face consequences. That’s the only way people will believe in Letty”s innocence and she can restore her honor. Let’s show them firsthand what happens when they mess with our family.”

Lenard, typically composed, expressed determination. Letticia, Kenneth, and Marianne all joined in, clenching their fists.

Sharon Count’s people usually kept a distance from political power, focusing on their business. This led people to mistakenly believe the Sharon Count’s family was merely a peaceful and quiet household involved in jewelry trade.

However, this assumption held true only as long as they didn’t interfere with the family.

The moment someone threatened the family, the Sharon Count’s family would spare no effort, mobilizing everything to protect their own.

Both the Averil Duke’s family and the Academy students who contributed to the rumors would soon realize the gravity of their actions.

I will post the remaining chapters that should be posted little by little (4 chapters left for this week’s update)

    1. Cathe says:

Alright! Thank you for letting us know, I appreciate it! 🥰💘💝

      1. louyve says:

Thanks for your support, it makes me even more excited to share more chapters in the future!

  2. louyve says:

Oh, also I really like interaction between Sharon’s family in this chapter. They’re really care and want to protect for each other 🙊💕

    1. Cathe says:

Same! 🥰🥰 Always great when a family can and want to support and protect each other, even with their difference’s. But of course, not like the Averyl’s who don’t listen nor truly know their claimed beloved member. 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

      1. louyve says:

Yes! And also if they are close like that and always take care of each other, in the future the Sharon family will become an even more famous family, both because of their cohesiveness, strength and family wealth. To me, the Averil family only contains selfish people… Their love/doting for Ariette is too much…

        1. Aria says:

Rather than love or doting, as Leticia said, they seem so absorbed in their image of being great protectors of their weak sister that they don’t even care that they’re causing more stress to their sister than the actual issue. After making such a big issue of Arie crying, even resorting to assault, who in their right mind would ever want to be friends with her for real. That brat managed to single handedly isolate his sister from people who would really want to help her, even if that means giving her a bitter pill once in a while.
This is apart from all the blatant gaslighting by telling her she is actually being harassed when that isn’t the case…. With a family this toxic, who needs enemies?

          1. louyve says:

I quite agree, plus it feels like the Averil family only wants to believe in what they want to believe in, then judging from the OG novel, the Averil family only paid attention to Ariette after she had been abused a lot. Forever Ariette will never have the courage to speak up because she is always prevented by her family. I feel sorry for Letticia for having to deal with this messed up family 😩😩
