LZX Chapter 66.1

Dust Against the Sky (part 1)

He saw his body falling backward, landing on the Wuhen Sword.

His soul slowly floated up, arriving above Mo Qianqiu’s head.

Mo Qianqiu’s expression was resolute, with spiritual energy surging around him like a dense vortex.

Mo Qianqiu’s sword formation was at the sword’s tip, and without a soul entering it, it was only as small as a grain of rice.

Under Haofu’s Zhongxiao sword formation, it was like dust challenging the vast sky.

Lu Xiaochan entered Mo Qianqiu’s sword formation without hesitation.

The moment he entered the formation, there was no pain – it felt like entering another world without constraints, free and vast.

He shared feelings with Mo Qianqiu.

Mo Qianqiu’s past youthful freedom, his frustration because of the Myriad Phenomena Lock, his sudden enlightenment when guided by Liche, the carefree joy of roaming Dongxu with Liche, and even the painful guilt of watching helplessly as Liche faded away – all these became Lu Xiaochan’s emotions.

A thousand years ago, Lu Xiaochan wasn’t the only one who experienced life and death separations.

Mo Qianqiu had experienced the same.

Losing the person you most wanted to protect – wasn’t that like being burned by karmic fire?

Today, let us protect each other with our lives!

Mo Qianqiu let out a low growl and closed his eyes, refusing to look at Haofu’s sword formation to prevent his heart from being trapped by it.

In his elixir sea, huge waves surged upward, enveloping Lu Xiaochan’s soul, breaking through layer after layer of constraints. This wasn’t a struggle, wasn’t for proof, and wasn’t for victory in battle – it was to reach a place unbound by obsession.

He understood too well why Haofu initiated this battle in front of Lu Xiaochan.

Because Haofu knew that witnessing Lu Xiaochan’s destruction was Mo Qianqiu’s greatest obsession!

After the Immortal-Demon War, through countless days and nights, Mo Qianqiu had wondered what would have happened if he had ascended to the Wuyi Jingtian back then. Would Xiaochan still have sacrificed himself? How painful was Chaos’s karmic fire?

This had been his greatest constraint for a thousand years, preventing him from reaching the realm of Great Power.

Today, Haofu wanted him to experience that past pain again, but Lu Xiaochan gave him the courage to face his own obsession!

What was wrong with having an obsession in one’s heart?

“I am grateful for my obsession – it is precisely because I want to protect him so much that I will become stronger than any previous version of myself!”

The Zhongxiao Sword Formation came crashing down like mountains and seas, and Lu Xiaochan’s soul burst forth from the Qianqiu Sword Formation!

In this battle, spiritual energy surged magnificently. The Zhongxiao Sword Formation was unstoppable, continuously crushing Lu Xiaochan’s soul.

Mo Qianqiu’s right hand gripped the sword handle tightly, while his left hand pushed hard on it, channeling endless spiritual energy onto his sword and into the formation.

Whenever Lu Xiaochan’s soul form was destroyed by the Zhongxiao Sword Formation, Mo Qianqiu would restore it.

But the power of mountains and earth grew increasingly fierce as it was absorbed into the Zhongxiao Sword Formation, like thousands of mountains roaring!

As Lu Xiaochan’s soul form was about to be pressed back into the formation’s eye, Mo Qianqiu’s spiritual energy was also nearly depleted.

He didn’t want to regret anymore, nor did he want to imagine countless “what ifs.”

If spiritual energy was exhausted, then let flesh and bone generate more!

Mo Qianqiu nearly crushed his teeth, his fingers trembling on the sword handle, bones almost shattered by his own spiritual energy.

Mo Qianqiu was forced backward by Haofu, and his back happened to touch Lu Xiaochan’s hand where he lay on the Wuhen Sword.

A powerless touch, yet it was the strongest support.

Haofu had exceptional talent and his cultivation was nearly a thousand years ahead of Mo Qianqiu’s. He knew that no matter how many times he fought Haofu on the Immortal Inquiry Platform, the result would be the same.

But this time was different – Xiaochan was here.

No matter how many years passed, Lu Xiaochan was still Lu Xiaochan – not avoiding, not retreating, not yielding, composed even in the face of death.

Haofu laughed, “Qianqiu, your elixir sea is getting weaker and weaker. Because of that one breath back then, you refused to see me again, leading to today’s predicament! If you remain obstinate, your light will burn out!”

Mo Qianqiu’s internal energy was chaotic, as if carrying towering mountains on his shoulders.

But this weight – he could bear it!

People said his Qianqiu Sword was a demonic sword among the righteous path because it borrowed the souls of living beings.

But what they didn’t know was that the Qianqiu Sword’s true name was the Yuling Sword, meaning not to dominate the world’s living beings, but to follow their lead!

Mo Qianqiu sighed in his heart – Xiaochan, actually, admitting one’s weakness isn’t such a big deal.

“Do you know that by borrowing Xiaochan’s soul, I’ve borrowed the power of all waters under heaven?”

Mo Qianqiu raised his eyes, looking at Haofu with a slight smile.

At that moment, Haofu’s brow trembled. In the darkness, waves rolled, as if defying heaven!

Rivers and seas converged, all waters returned to their source.

Lu Xiaochan’s soul form was filled with great waters, like an ocean pouring forth, holding back the Zhongxiao Sword Formation.

Meanwhile, Mo Qianqiu’s sword formation transformed instantly, its power increasing dramatically.

No matter how strong the power of mountains and earth grew, how could it match Lu Xiaochan, who was of one mind with Mo Qianqiu?

Mo Qianqiu borrowed Lu Xiaochan’s soul, while Lu Xiaochan resonated with all water veins under heaven. The Qianqiu Sword, which originally could only command living beings’ souls, now possessed the power of all waters through Lu Xiaochan.

The great waters were boundless – the more they were blocked and suppressed, the more fierce they became.

Mo Qianqiu’s exhausted elixir sea seemed to be filled with endless rivers and seas, more than his body could contain, surging forth violently.

This was the first time Mo Qianqiu had unleashed such a sword formation – turbulent waves, ever-changing.

He had cultivated for over a thousand years, and while others said he was willful and arbitrary, how many knew what he truly cared about and what his heart was directed toward?

Xiaochan, thank you for letting me truly free my heart!

Mo Qianqiu pushed his palm against the sword handle, and the magnificent formation burst forth. Lu Xiaochan’s soul, wrapped in huge waves, recklessly charged into the Zhongxiao Sword Formation!

Haofu only felt an irreversible great force coming at him – without any killing intent, yet it washed through heaven and earth, seeping into the mountain power he had borrowed, passing through gracefully, breaking the Zhongxiao Sword Formation!

Haofu opened his eyes wide, watching as Lu Xiaochan’s soul form came straight at him, entering his body and seizing Demon Lord Luli, dragging it out from within him.

Haofu tilted his head back, as if seeing countless stars in the endless void, then collapsed from exhaustion.

As Luli struggled desperately, Mo Qianqiu’s sword flourished, and Lu Xiaochan’s soul quickly returned to the sword formation.

Mo Qianqiu flew forward on his sword, swept it horizontally, and a sword formation flew out diagonally, threatening to split the entire Hopeless Ravine.

Luli was instantly trapped in the formation. Mo Qianqiu gripped the sword handle tightly, his fingertips stroking from blade to blade. Lu Xiaochan’s soul in the formation transformed instantly, water flowing out from the formation’s eye again. Like thousands of armies charging forth, the tremors in the Hopeless land made the Chongluan Palace shake even tens of thousands of miles above.

Luli transformed into endless killing intent, but was enveloped and divided by the great waters, howling miserably, finally being refined by Mo Qianqiu in one breath.

The uncontainable spiritual energy from the sword formation surged in all directions. Luli finally condensed into a deep blue spiritual pill, and as Mo Qianqiu raised his sword, it landed perfectly on the sword tip.

His fingertip applied slight pressure, and the spiritual pill rolled down from the sword tip, stopped by the handle.

Picking up this spiritual pill, Mo Qianqiu lightly flicked his sword and said softly, “Soul return!”

Lu Xiaochan, lying on the Wuhen Sword, drew in a sharp breath and suddenly opened his eyes.

Darkness still surrounded them, with only Mo Qianqiu’s spiritual light shining like a bright moon in the night sky.

Lu Xiaochan rubbed his eyes as Mo Qianqiu came to his side, supporting his back to help him sit up.

“Are you alright?”

It was rare to see Mo Qianqiu looking so worried.

Lu Xiaochan looked at him for a moment and said, “Who are you?”

Mo Qianqiu was shocked and felt Lu Xiaochan’s forehead. “This is my first time borrowing a living person’s soul. Was your soul damaged? Or did I make a mistake in returning it?”

Lu Xiaochan stared blankly at Mo Qianqiu, who pulled him into his embrace. “I’m sorry… I’m sorry…”

Lu Xiaochan’s chin rested on Mo Qianqiu’s shoulder, but his gaze was fixed on Haofu, who was being supported by the Zhongxiao Sword in the distance.

He lay on his side, his breath faint.

After all, he had been possessed by Demon Lord Luli for so many years, leaving him completely drained. Even if he didn’t perish, his years of cultivation were wasted.

Haofu looked at Mo Qianqiu’s back, seemingly in tears, wanting to say something but lacking the strength.

Looking at his current state, Lu Xiaochan felt no sympathy for some reason.

Perhaps because, in Lu Xiaochan’s view, right and wrong were others’ judgments, while for oneself, there was only what must be done and what need not be done.

Haofu cared too much about others’ views, lost his true heart, and thus lost everything.

Suddenly, Lu Xiaochan’s head was struck hard from behind.

Mo Qianqiu’s annoyed voice rang out. “You stinky kid, how long are you going to keep pretending? I know you’re perfectly fine!”

“Eh? How did you know I was fine?” Lu Xiaochan straightened his back and stared at Mo Qianqiu with round eyes.

“I borrowed your soul for the sword formation, and its power was so great – it shows your profound cultivation! You weren’t even afraid of the mountain and earth power when facing the Zhongxiao Sword! How could anything be wrong with you?”

Mo Qianqiu rose on his sword, and Lu Xiaochan, losing his support, almost fell off, but fortunately, the Wuhen Sword came to support him.

“Xiaochan, we must hurry back to Chongluan Palace… Did you also refine a Demon Lord?”

“Yes, it even transformed into Brother Wuxi’s appearance to deceive me!”

Mentioning this, Lu Xiaochan was still very upset.

“It transformed into Shu Wuxi? It seems you have quite a few inappropriate thoughts about Shu Wuxi!” Mo Qianqiu laughed.

Lu Xiaochan became unhappy. “What do you mean ‘inappropriate thoughts’? He’s mine to begin with! Alive, he’s my person; dead, he must come back to life to be my person – of course I can have any thoughts about him!” Lu Xiaochan spoke in a matter-of-fact tone. “But what did that Demon Lord feed on? How did it know to take Brother Wuxi’s form?”

“That was Miyi, the Demon Lord who feeds on romantic attachment.”

“What ant?” Lu Xiaochan leaned his head closer to ask. (TL: 么蚁 Meyi)

“‘Mi’ as in ‘decadent music,’ ‘yi’ as in ‘enchanting,'” Mo Qianqiu seemed to mock Lu Xiaochan’s illiteracy.

“I’m blind, I never learned to read!”

Mo Qianqiu didn’t bother to joke with him anymore and turned serious. “Since two great Demon Lords have appeared, this evil formation below Chongluan Palace must be extraordinary. We must return immediately and get everyone to leave!”

“Forget it, the people of Xiyuan don’t believe what you say. They think you’re just seeking revenge!”
