ITETP Chapter 118

Did she like him?

Dana gazed blankly at him. The face of Carl asking the question was just soft, always so tender and kind… But why did it feel rougher than ever? A strange sense of threat overwhelmed Dana, almost making her step back. But it was just her imagination.

“Yes.”

In reality, she responded as if enchanted.

“I like you.”

Dana whispered, burying her cheek in his large hand. “I like Uncle so much.”

The palm of his hand on her lips was warm.

“When uncle jumped into the sea, I wanted to jump in after you.”

It was the truth. She really wanted to follow him. To dive into the sea, cut off his fingers, and retrieve the ring.

“So, don’t ever do that again. Don’t ever leave me like you did earlier. Never again…”

Never again make me lose the relic. Because of you, I almost got trapped in this world. Swallowing the accusation rose to her throat, Dana slowly closed her eyes, fearing she might reveal her hatred.

I must never fall into such a dangerous situation.

It was unacceptable to lose the relic so vainly. She would not let such a situation happen again. To do so… I’ll steal the ring, even if I have to cut off his finger.

She would claim it as soon as possible. If she couldn’t take it while he was alive, then she would take it by killing him. Unfortunately, however, Carl Windsor was a monster. A monster who survived even an explosion. How could she take the life of a monster? There was only one way.

“There’s no one more precious to me than you, Uncle.”

To make him completely trust her and to let his guard down completely.

“So, please don’t leave me alone. I only have Uncle.”

Slowly, she opened her eyes. As she did, tears she had crafted beautifully while they were closed trickled down as she lifted her head.

“Uncle likes me too, right?”

“Of course,” Carl answered without hesitation.

At that moment, Dana had to suppress a burst of laughter. Ah, yes. Of course, he would like her. He must really like my wealth. He liked her wealth, while she liked his relic. And they were trying to take it from each other, even if it meant to kill each other. Pretending to love each other while fully intending to deceive, this situation was just laughable.

“So, promise me. Never recklessly jump into danger again.”

“Yes.” Carl Windsor smiled. “I promise, Dana.”

Suddenly, Dana narrowed her eyes. Carl Windsor smiling in the sunlight was too dazzling. He was shining, just like the sun. At that moment, she thought. There couldn’t be a more handsome con artist like him in this world.

* * *

Hmm, Hmm hmm hmm.

After the conversation with Dana, Carl walked towards his own room.

Hmm hmm hmm.

He couldn’t stop humming because he felt so good. Why wouldn’t he? He had been worried that Dana might hate him, might not trust him anymore, might not rely on him. Because she hadn’t talked about the threatening letter she received – because she had consulted Rumie instead. So Carl had been worried all along. Maybe Dana had chosen Rumie as her new source of reliance.

After all, Rumie is a pretty impressive guy, even from my perspective. Moreover, Rumie was still single, young, and hadn’t had a kid. Maybe Dana felt a romantic interest in him.

Right, age cannot be ignored. Rumie is younger than me, so he must have a lot in common with Dana.

Carl was really envious that Rumie was in his twenties, just like Dana. And it made him anxious at the same time. What if Dana likes Rumie? What if she wishes to marry him? It was possible. They were not blood-related, and Rumie could transfer to the Rolland family if he wished. If they got married, Dana’s inheritance rights would go to her spouse, not her guardian. Just the thought made his stomach churn.

That can’t happen. Dana’s wealth is mine.

He had been gloomy at the thought of losing the wealth- But it was an unnecessary worry.

“Please, save Carl Windsor.”

“Please bring him back to me.”

Fufufufu. Carl let out a silly laugh as he walked down the hallway. After a long shower, he entered his room, dressed, and noticed a note on the nightstand.

[Come to my room as soon as you see this. It doesn’t matter if it’s late.

-Sandra Windsor]

Carl tilted his head. Was this note here before? He had gone straight to the shower upon entering the room, so he might have missed it. Well, it doesn’t matter. He obediently left his room as the note instructed, heading to Sandra’s room.

Sandra. His wife. Come to think of it, they had fought frequently lately. She couldn’t wait until Dana’s inheritance was fully secured, urging him to give up and leave several times. Maybe Dana had vaguely noticed that they were the reason for the couple’s separation.

Could that be why? Was Dana trying to distance herself out of consideration for him? Was that why she didn’t consult him about the threatening letter?

Carl’s expression grew serious. If that was really the case. If Sandra was an obstacle between him and Dana. Then…

“…”

Carl stopped walking. Before he knew it, he was standing in front of Sandra’s room. As he looked at the door, an odd smile formed on his face. He slowly turned the doorknob. However, the knob stopped halfway; it was locked from the inside. But as soon as Carl applied some force, the lock broke with a crack, and the door slowly opened.

“…”

Sandra was asleep on the bed. Carl leaned leisurely against the door, observing her and the young man holding her. Yoris, was it? The name of Sandra’s servant.

“…Mmm.

Then, Sandra stirred and lazily opened her eyelids. Their eyes met.

“…”

Her face seemed to be trying to determine if it was a dream or reality.

Carl smiled warmly at his wife’s dumbfounded expression. “Did you sleep well, Sandra?”

“Ca-Carl?”

“Yes.”

“W-W-Why are you there?”

At her wife’s reaction, Carl was certain. The note wasn’t sent by Sandra. Someone had lured him here to witness this scene. Someone who wanted to tear apart him and Sandra. Doing something so sly and cunning, like a mischievous little fox.

“Ca-Carl. So, this is…” Sandra hurriedly sat up, and when her naked body was exposed, she quickly pulled the blanket over herself. “I-I fought with you, and in a fit of anger, I drank… I’m sorry. Carl, I’m really sorry.”

“It’s okay.”

Huh?”

“I’ll pretend I didn’t see anything, so don’t be too flustered.”

Sandra looked as if she had been hit on the back of her head.

Carl awkwardly smiled and scratched his cheek. “Then sleep some more, Sandra. It’s still early in the morning.” With those words, Carl turned around and left the room. He walked down the hallway back to his own room.

Fufufu.

Laughter escaped him again. His steps were light. He felt so exhilarated, as if he could fly away to a distant, dizzying place- Aah, yes, like the peak of a climax.

I bet it was that crazy maid who loves him that set up the note. Thinking if he caught her cheating he would cheat as well or divorce her and get a chance to be with him.
