Thank you, A Voracious Reader, for the kofi.
“Oh . . . ummm.”
Visibly flustered, Elshnain’s blue gaze was all over the place.
Well, I suppose it’s natural for him to think like that.
From Killian’s perspective, she was a horrible person, so asking him to trust her again must be quite unpleasant.
But even so, wasn’t it a bit too much to threaten people face to face like this, especially someone who lost their memories……. wait, no, erased them to be precise? One could never know how such an individual might react in this particular situation.
I didn’t raise you to be such a blackmailer! As this thought crossed Elshnain’s mind, her mouth itched with an intense desire to scold Killian.
However, she managed to suppress the feeling.
Now was the time to be careful; more so than ever. After all, she was no longer his best friend, was she?
“Haha! Yes! You can think of it that way!” Elshnain laughed and enthusiastically nodded.
First and foremost, it was crucial to calm down the evidently upset Killian, who was quietly going insane.
Let’s see.
It’s said that showing emotional empathy when dealing with a angry person was essential, right?
So….
“I also think your point is valid!” Elshnain stated.
If she remembered that Tv show called ‘The art of conversation’ from her previous life correctly, rather than using the ‘you’ statements and pointing out the other person’s flaws with sentences like ‘what’s wrong with you’ or something similar; it was better to express oneself using phrases like ‘I feel this way’ or ‘I think like this’ to convey one’s thoughts.
By doing so, one can have a calm conversation without hurting the other person’s feelings.
“I,… I might have been taken aback for a moment, but I understand your feelings.” Elshnain stated while praising her excellent memory, delighted with the useful piece of information she had recalled.
However, to her surprise, Killian seemed even more furious than before.
It was evident judging by how his eyebrows soar up like two mountains.
“You understand me?”
His voice carried such coldness, it felt like their surroundings could freeze at any moment.
Huh?
This wasn’t right.
Puzzled, Elshnain tilted her head.
“Killian?” she called.
“You understand,” he said again.
Why was the atmosphere so strange?
Just now in his voice…. was that a hint of sadness?
Why?
But before Elshnain could ponder further, her eyes widened, realizing Killian’s sturdy upper body was too close for comfort.
“Huh?”
“If you truly understand me, you must know what I think of every time I see you, right?” he asked.
“……?”
“Every time I look into your blue eyes. Every time your scent brushes against the tip of my nose. I….”
Killian’s crimson eyes, looking down at her, were redder and deeper than usual.
In those eyes, that were more vivid and intense than a bright red rose on a summer day, she saw herself displayed in a faint blue hue.
With her small mouth slightly agape and her own eyes wide open, she had an innocent expression on her face as she looked back at him.
It was precisely in that moment when she, having discovered herself in those pupils, suddenly snapped out of her daze.
Then….
Rumble!
With a thunderous roar as if the sky was crashing down, a white light flashed the surroundings.
It was lightning accompanied by thunder.
Immediately afterwards, the slightly open window was blown open by a gust of wind, making a squeaking sound, and the candle illuminating the room went out.
Amidst the darkness, Elshnain could hear Killian’s breathing right in front of her.
“…….”
“…….”
But the shallow breaths, filled with tension, were soon drown under the sound of the rain that had begun to pour.
Nervously gulping, Elshnain slightly parting her lips to speak.
“……Oh. The sky was a bit cloudy earlier, but is it really raining right now? Is it a heavy downpour?”
Her voice sounded uncertain and slightly muffled.
Smiling awkwardly, she took a step back, distancing herself from him.
Crackle!
Then, another lightning bolt struck.
And Killian’s intense gaze pierced through her in the suddenly bright room.
Making her shoulders tremble instinctively.
Making her feel like a prey in front of a predator.
Like a rabbit in front of a lion.
Overwhelmed by this sense of unfamiliarity, Elshnain gently rubbed her arms and took another step back.
As she slightly nibbled on her lower lip, various thoughts were crossing her mind.
Wow. Did this guy just… is he trying to say that he wants to devour me every time he looks at me?
Shuddering all over at that thought, Elshnsain quickly shook her head.
No. I must be out of my mind but look at those eyes.
They were eyes that looked as if they could eat her alive at any moment.
With this realization, she completely dispelled the strange sadness she had felt in Killian’s voice earlier from her mind.
“……That’s weird.”
“Huh? What is it?” Elshnain asked in a startled voice, thinking she got caught cursing at him in her head.
But Killian seemed to have already shifted his attention elsewhere.
“I don’t think this rain is natural,” he answered.
“Huh?”
Surely, he doesn’t think I’m responsible for that, does he?
Elshnain desperately put on an innocent face. But after deceiving him so many times, she couldn’t help feeling a sting of guilt.
“I should check it out just in case.”
“Are you going now?”
“Yes,” Killian said before moving away from her, and casually flicking his hand.
And suddenly, a small, white sphere appeared next to him.
Originally, this shouldn’t have been visible, but he had deliberately condensed it in a single point in order to use it as light.
Looks like everything was truly fully restored, seeing how he’s using that precious godly power as if it were water; Elshnain thought.
Anyway, thanks to him, the room was now completely lit.
“The fact that the barrier didn’t waver at all even when I’m controlling the weather means that my skills are at least on the same level as Asherai’s.” Killian declared out of nowhere.
Huh? Asherai? Elshnain hastily looked up.
“Ah. You must have forgotten who Asherai is.”
“Uh……. well, that’s right.”
“Well……. You don’t need to know who that person is anyway.”
“Huh?”
“It’s someone who should not be here in the first place. Someone who shouldn’t exist.”
Kilian tilted his head to look at her as he said those words.
Wait? Why do I feel like he has some not-so-good feelings for Asherai?
Originally, the two weren’t the type to exchange laughter and jokes, but it wasn’t to the extent where they would frown and talk like this about one another.
“Ahem. Looks like you don’t get along well with that Asherai person, huh?”
“Not particularly.”
Despite speaking as if nothing significant had happened, his expression was telling a different story.
Elshnain could tell by his face that something did happen.
However, even though she was dying to ask more questions, she carefully tucked her curiosity away.
I’ll just ask Asherai about it later myself.
Speaking of Asherai, perhaps……
“Stay here. I’ll bring Mikhail back soon,” Killian suddenly stated, cutting her thoughts short.
“Okay, got it.”
“If anything happens…”
“Don’t worry. I’ll just touch the bracelet and call your name if there’s any danger!”
“…….”
At her words, a mischievous grin appeared on Killian’s face, and his eyes flickered dangerously.
Oops. I almost made him angry again. Let’s not forget that this guy is now going crazy because of the female lead’s death.
He could change his mind at any moment and if her guard down was down then, her entire plan would fail.
“Take care of yourself. Killian.”
“Sure.” He swiftly turned around and strode out of her room.
But …….
Wait, wasn’t he supposed to leave that light behind?
The light that had been illuminating the surroundings—did he just take it with him?
Elshnain pursed her lips in shock, and amusement.
“What the heck.”
Well, first, let’s light a candle.
After standing still for a while to allow her eyes to adjust to the darkness, Elshnain carefully used moved along the wall, stammering her way to the candlestick.
I distinctly remember having matches around here.
As she searched around the candlestick, her hand eventually felt on the matches.
“Alright then. Let’s start from here.”
Then, a strange sound reached her ears after she lit the first candle and leisurely moved around the room to ignite more.
Tak. Tak.
“……Huh?”
Did I just hear something?
Elshnain looked around curiously.
Tak. Tak. Tak.
“……?”
Yes. she definitely heard something.
Holding the candlestick tighter, Elshnain approached the window.
Thick raindrops were pouring down, hitting the window like hail.
“it’s a bit creepy…”
The sound of the rain echoed like thunder, and outside the window, where rainwater was streaming down, was shrouded in pitch-black darkness, creating a somewhat eerie atmosphere.
Certainly, just a while ago, the window revealed a splendid garden and majestic fountain.
Ugh. It’s scary.
Elshnain’s shoulders tensed up as she slightly clutched the window.
I’m sure I heard a noise coming from here . . . Huh?’
Swoosh….
Elshnain’s face, peering out of the window, stiffened.
“Wh-What was that just now.”
Something just whooshed past the window!
Impossible, this the third floor!
This was starting to feel like the ghost stories she had heard of in her first life.
“Uh, maybe I saw it wrong. Haha.” she joked, pretending not to notice the sweat running down her forehead as she tightly closed the already shut window.
Elshnain had always despised horror stories. Whether it was during a road trip, a college party, or even late at night when someone would try to create a creepy atmosphere by bringing up stupid ghost stories…….
She was the person who would cover that someone’s mouth with both hands and shove the narrative down their throat until they almost fainted, all while sobbing about how terrified she was, even though the story hadn’t even been told yet.
So, for someone like her, entertaining the mere thought of opening the window right now might be the ultimate brave act of a lifetime.
[The fact that the barrier didn’t waver at all even when I’m controlling the weather means that my skills are at least on the same level as Asherai’s.] Killian’s voice echoed in her head.
Because of his words, she was now thinking that Asherai might be on the other side of that window.
And the moment she gave in to those intrusive thoughts, and slightly opened the damn window….
Whoops!
“Ugh!”
A gust of wind fiercely blew through the small opening.
Elshnain, who was right in front of the window, was hit full force by it, and staggered back while waving her hands frantically.
“Ugh. What the?..”
Then……she froze in place at the sight of the figure that appeared next, feeling shivers running down her spine.
A person with long hair covering their face, was creeping up the window.
But in a way that made them look like a spider, crawling backward.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Not a ghost!!
I’m dying over here! xD
