My impression of Ludwig’s dog-talk was simple.
‘Did he really turn into a dog because he drank too much?’
And I immediately reflected.
‘Ah, I apologize once again to the dogs who benefit the world with their cuteness.’
Comparing rotten food waste, no, nuclear waste-level stuff, to lovely, harmless balls of fur. No matter how blinded by anger he was, he shouldn’t forget his human duties.
In the meantime, Ludwig came down the stairs on a diagonal.
Fortunately, and regrettably, he didn’t roll down the stairs or fall.
With a flushed face, he smiled brightly and stretched out his arms to hug me.
“Hylia! I knew you’d come back!”
Two people reacted to Ludwig’s attempt to hug me.
The first was me, who quickly dodged to the side.
The second was Arpad, who had been at odds with me just a moment ago. He blocked the way faster than me, and very naturally tripped Ludwig’s leg. As a result, Ludwig rolled around on the floor like a drunkard.
The bottle fell to the floor, spilling the remaining alcohol.
The employees who followed Ludwig down, or the employees of the Archduke’s palace who had ignored me as if I didn’t exist, were startled and tried to support Ludwig.
“Your Highness!”
“Oh my! Come to your senses!”
“Lady Hylia is now…!”
He probably wanted to tell his master that I had done something unfair. However, Ludwig, who was struggling on the alcohol he had spilled, was in no condition to hear what his subordinates were saying.
How much did he drink?
‘I wish there was a device that could record a video. I want to take a picture and scatter it.’
Oh, by the way, I knew a wizard who could develop a magic tool that could record and save images, even though it’s not being made right now.
I shouldn’t forget to find that person in advance and make him mine. It would definitely be very helpful.
That person wasn’t someone Evangeline had obtained through information from the ‘original work’, but rather someone she had found out through information she had come across by chance.
‘Then it would be very easy for me to steal them away in advance. The current Evangeline wouldn’t know.’
It would be very dangerous to intercept all the talents Evangeline had obtained through information from the original work.
‘There’s a high chance that Evangeline will notice something strange.’
Until I had enough strength, I had to minimize the risk of Evangeline noticing my regression.
Anyway, that would be a long time later. The most important thing at hand was the banquet at Artanus Hall. The first thing to do was to get back the Delphine Duchy right now.
In the meantime, Ludwig, who had fallen down and was rolling on the floor, barely managed to get up. He used the Archduke’s employees as walking sticks to lean on.
He then started to pick a fight with Arpad, who tripped him up.
“You, you! How dare you, a lowly rascal! How dare you trip me up?! This is treason! I’ll throw you away!”
Ludwig’s tongue-twisting pronunciation was quite something to see. Even Evangeline would think he was picking a fight for nothing.
I smiled brightly and said to Ludwig.
“It’s useless for a noble royal to get drunk and harass innocent commoners. If this becomes known, the prestige of the royal family will fall to the ground.”
Ludwig looked at me half-asleep again. And muttered something stupid.
“Hylia, were you this… pretty?”
“Yes. Did you realize that now? Our lady, no, Her Highness, was always beautiful!”
Annie, who hated Ludwig more than a fly in a drink, snapped in a sharp voice.
Ludwig nodded absentmindedly, not even realizing that he was being scolded.
“Well, that’s true. You were always pretty. Actually, Hylia, you are more… than Eva…”
Now, the compliments and regrets he was expressing only made me feel more uncomfortable.
“Enough with the nonsense, let’s go.”
Fortunately, he seemed to understand.
“Go? Where? This is our home.”
He looked a little drunk.
I declared as coldly as I could.
“It’s not our home, it’s my home. And now you have no reason to be here.”
Ludwig looked up at me with a look that seemed to have been struck by lightning and asked blankly.
“No reason? Why? I’m your husband.”
“I’m already married to His Highness the Crown Prince. So we’re… No, now I’m your sister-in-law.”
“Sister… law?”
Ludwig’s expression distorted miserably.
And then he exploded and ran towards me.
“Don’t make me laugh! You’re mine!!!”
* * *
This time again, Arpad stopped Ludwig, who was about to rush at Hylia with a face distorted like a monster.
He had crossed his legs a moment ago without being noticeable, but now he was blatantly blocking Hylia’s path. Like a solid wall.
Ludwig waved his hand at Hylia, who was out of reach, and lashed out.
“Get out of the way!!! She’s my woman! She’s mine!”
Arpad considered his status as the mercenary king Gerald quite important. Except for a few special circumstances, he tried not to reveal himself as the crown prince when he was working as a mercenary. If he acted as the crown prince without any reason, the reason for creating the identity of mercenary Gerald would disappear. But at this moment, he felt the urge to throw away his mask and cut down Ludwig.
He seriously thought this.
‘Why don’t I kill him and then say that I challenged him to a duel for the honor of my wife?’
It was a ridiculous thought.
It was also something that Arpad, in his normal state, would never have thought of. But Arpad had felt this way quite often recently.
He would suddenly feel the urge to do things that he normally would not do. It always happened when it came to just one person.
It shouldn’t have been the case, but a voice that seemed to be filled with the sweet scent of flowers called his fake name.
“Gerald.”
Only then did Arpad realize that he had let go of his reason for a moment and had shown his desire to live.
Just by that, the surroundings were almost scorched earth.
“Hee, heeeek—!”
“Please save me! Please save me!”
“Aww!!”
Some people were foaming at the mouth and rolling their eyes, while others collapsed with their legs giving out. And Ludwig…
“This is it.”
Hylia frowned and turned her head.
“The smell…”
That’s right. Ludwig, who was momentarily unable to control Arpad’s murderous intent, ended up leaking. Shocked gasps and mutterings echoed from all directions.
“Th, my goodness!”
“What the hell!”
“Hurry up and cover me up!”
This did not discriminate between Delphine and Kielnzer’s employees or mercenaries. It was such a shocking thing. The Archduke’s employees, who were somewhat savage, covered Ludwig’s lower body with their coats.
Hylia didn’t care at all about that. She just turned around coldly and ordered the black mercenaries.
“Let’s see the guest off safely.”
There was no one who didn’t understand who this guest was talking about. It was to kick Ludwig out.
Unable to bear this, one of the Archduke’s employees shouted.
“This is too much! How could you do this!”
Hylia slowly turned her head at those words.
Her sharp purple gaze glared at Ludwig’s attendant who had said, “This is too much.”
The attendant trembled in fear for a moment. And then he was surprised at himself.
“Why should I be afraid of that woman? No matter what, I am the Archduke’s confidant!”
For the past three years, as Ludwig’s confidant, she had not been able to shake off the habit of looking down on Hylia and everyone in the Delphine family as inferiors.
He mustered up his courage and shouted.
“Even so, if you are a human being, you should not throw out His Highness the Archduke who has been so deeply hurt like this, like a thief! His Highness has been so kind to you!”
The servant’s words were strange. It was as if Ludwig had done Hylia a favor.
Hylia tilted her head and approached the servant who was talking nonsense.
“What did I do too much?”
“To throw out His Highness the Archduke so coldly…!”
“I have already become a couple with His Highness the Crown Prince in front of the Lord and the Mother Goddess. Is there anyone who does not know this fact? So Ludwig and I are no longer related. Isn’t it rude and excessive for Ludwig to sit in my house like the master?”
“T-That…!”
“The court ladies who were sent to bring my entourage were kicked out before they could even enter the mansion, saying that Ludwig was upset. Isn’t this outrageous?”
The attendant was speechless.
All this time, he had been going along with Ludwig and Evangeline’s wild ways in Delfine, so he had lost all sense of common sense and common courtesy. However, hearing these words so bluntly from Hylia, he realized once again that what was happening in Delfinger was not normal.
While the attendant was unable to answer properly and was stuttering,
Hylia asked in a cold voice.
“How should we deal with the crime of insulting the royal family?”
“Anyone who insults the noble royal family will have the body that caused the insult cut off.”
Gerald (Alpad) answered quickly. It was a law that actually worked in the early days of the founding of the country, but now it is almost a dead letter. However, it was enough to drive the attendant into fear.
Gerald (Alpad) added in a tone that could not hold back a laugh.
“The author dared to insult His Majesty with his tongue, so he should be punished by cutting off his tongue.”
“Eek!”
A terrifying reaction spread all around.
