I'm a Supporting Role in a Horror Game, Don't Kill Me

CHAPTER 037

I was so shocked that my heart stopped, I covered my mouth as if I was going to scream and quickly turned around. I forced my feet, which were getting stiff, to quickly climb up the stairs again.

Squeak-.

‘…no!’

Even though I thought I was taking very careful steps, the old stairs screamed. But the sound of those footsteps got closer before I turned back.

Squeak-.Squeak-.Squeak-.

Someone I had unknowingly gotten close to touched my shoulder.

“… Kyaaaa!”

A scream that could not be swallowed came out from between the closed mouth. Just before I almost reflexively picked up the revolver from my inventory, a soft, low-pitched sound fell from above my head.

“What on earth are you doing here?”

The owner of the delicate voice was Luke. In the light I was holding, he had a somewhat stiff and uncomfortable expression instead of his usual smiling expression.

‘…You’re back. Well, I won’t be out all this time.’

I sat down and looked at him, hesitating for a long time whether to take out my revolver or not.

‘…Are you trying to kill me? Even if I took out a gun, I wouldn’t be able to fight back, but it would still be better to die than to try to resist…? Or should I use the pretext of favorability?

They say a flash of light passes by before you die, but all that passed through my mind was regret.

‘I wasn’t coming here. No… Even if I came, I should have come when it was clear that the Lakers were not there. Or maybe I should have asked Officer Amanta to help me.’

As all kinds of thoughts were passing through my head, a hand suddenly came in front of my eyes.

“…Hike!”

As I tightened my grip around his head, I heard a small sigh from Luke.

“Wake up.”

“…yes?”

“It’s dangerous here. The stairs are narrow too. wake up.”

Instead of threatening me, the hand squeezed my hand. Then he firmly supported me and lifted me up. As I stood up in a daze, he looked at me with gloomy and callous eyes that I had never seen before.

“Didn’t you hear that?”

“…yes?”

“I told you not to come down to the basement. I am sure you heard it on your first day of work. “Why have you come here?”

Those eyes held a stern warning. I had no idea why the wariness in his gray eyes appeared so gloomy. The person who was told not to come down was most likely ‘Arbice Green’, not me. I did not know. Even if I hadn’t heard that, it didn’t look like a door that could be opened. I made up a weak excuse that I had prepared without realizing it.

“…Well, I lost my earring. I took a wrong turn while looking.”

“…Earring?”

In front of his gray eyes that stared at me as if telling me to tell an obvious lie, I made up a series of ridiculous excuses.

“A moment ago… No, not before, I was looking for my earring because I lost it while playing hide and seek yesterday during the day. Sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you.”

Luke looked at me for a while as if he was dumbfounded, and then slowly unheld my body. Just because his gaze softened a little, I felt like I could breathe easier.

“I hope you will be careful from now on. As a member of the Rearmond family.”

“…Yes, I will be careful.”

‘…I lived.’

I internally swallowed a sigh of relief that could not be expressed outwardly. And in the midst of that, that thought came to me first.

‘Seeing as he says I’m a member of the Rearmond family, it looks like I’m not being fired.’

His hand, which had not let go of my hand even after setting me up, gently squeezed and released my wrist as if to check my pulse. He probably knew that my heart was still beating like crazy. I was startled and threw his hand away, wondering what he was thinking. Surprisingly, he obediently removed his hand and nodded his head.

“Let’s talk.”

‘Now? At this late hour? What on earth are you talking about so late at night, past twelve at night?’

But the place where we met was too… It’s a secluded place. I was staring at him, not knowing what to say, but Luke passed me by and walked leisurely up the stairs, as if he had said everything he wanted to say. His back was towards me, but I fully understood the command to turn around and leave the basement immediately. I turned my head and looked briefly toward the basement, which was still filled with deep darkness, and turned away regretfully, unable to find out any secrets that the terrible darkness held. He asked me to talk, so I thought I would go to his room like last time. But Luke continued to climb the stairs in silence. Even though he walked with great strides, he sometimes walked at a slow pace, as if he was waiting for me. As I continued to climb the stairs after him, I passed the second floor where Shine and Luna were and the third floor where Luke’s room was.

‘…Where on earth are you taking me?’

As far as I knew, there was no living room on the fourth floor or higher where Luke I could talk. My heart, which had calmed down, began to beat quickly again.

‘Still, I thought I was able to get through this incident without getting killed… Wasn’t it?

While I was walking up the stairs looking at his back, I kept trying to estimate what my chances of defeating him would be if I suddenly took out a revolver and aimed it at his back. But for some reason, even as I looked at my back, I couldn’t think that I would win. I kept thinking of the Lakers holding my gun back as easily as taking a toy out of a child’s hand.

“We’re all here.”

“…yes?”

When I came to my senses, I saw Luke holding the doorknob and looking back at me.

“Beyond here is a secret space where I use it.”

“…that… is it so?”

The door he pointed to was a heavy-looking wooden door located at the end of the stairs. Since the lock was on the stairs, it looked like a door leading to the rooftop. What was this space doing?

‘I really don’t want to know about the killer’s secret space…’

Scenes from all kinds of horror movies flashed by. The most brutal scene definitely came from the killer’s ‘secret space’. Whether it’s collecting something, setting a goal, or watching a video that only you can see… Was it really a good thing to be invited there? The moment I continued my bad imagination, the Lakers opened the door.

“It’s a sudden invitation at a late hour, but I don’t think you’ll be sleeping anyway, so it’ll be okay.”

With those words, he took a step to the side.

“…and.”

I was amazed without even realizing it. In this place where it rains gloomily all day long, all month long, the roofs, instead of being pointed, are gently curved or even flat in some places, as if it doesn’t snow often. On the largest rooftop of them all, more than ten lanterns were twinkling. In the space surrounded by the lanterns, a small wooden table and two chairs were comfortably placed, and each had a pretty, colorful tablecloth and blanket, making it look warm. There was a glass of wine and things like cheese, crackers, and dried meat arranged neatly to eat.

‘…What, were you partying alone?’

As I glanced at him, Luke smiled and made up his place. Perhaps it was a space he usually used alone, but instead of calling an attendant, he searched around and took out another glass and a plate.

“Please come.”

And above all, what shines the most in this space is… It was Luke. He was so beautiful that I couldn’t believe I was so scared of him until now. The person, who shined brightly only in the moonlight, showed off his secret beauty when surrounded by elegant lanterns. As the lamp swayed, the shadows of adults appeared and disappeared, and the clearly curved faces had a strange decadence that made you want to stare at them forever. Even though there was only enough light to faintly distinguish the colors of objects, his eyes, which gradually changed color from silver to gray, glowed in a very mysterious way.

Sweet.

I suddenly came to my senses when I heard the sound made by the ice in the basket slightly melting. Belated realization flooded me with embarrassment. Not only am I watching him, but Luke, with his strange smile on his face, was also looking at me with interest. Also, I was making eye contact with him the whole time.

‘…Are you crazy? Again, I lost my mind again. Is now the time?’

Since I had been thinking about the image of a cruel killer just looking at his back, just seeing Luke assimilated into a gentle atmosphere seemed to have relieved my tension.

So, without realizing it, I let go of my guard and ended up admiring that handsome face.

‘How long are you going to just admire that handsome face? Is this why you want to see the true ending? Do you want to die just admiring your handsome face? Will you come to your senses only if you have one heart?

As I pinched both my cheeks with my fingers to come to my senses, I heard a small sound.

“…Phew hehe.”

…Laughter? I was so shocked that I glared at him, and he even rolled his eyes… No, what was so funny was that I saw Luke smiling with tears in his eyes. After seeing that tired, cold expression I saw in the basement, seeing that expression made me feel so bright that I felt like they had added another light to the entire space.

‘…Damn, he’s really handsome.’

Feeling like I was being possessed again, I pinched my cheek harder and sat in front of him, glaring at Luke.

“What’s so funny?”

“…Haha. Ha, I’m so glad.”

“Are you glad?”

“You don’t look depressed.”

Luke made an inexplicable sound, grinned, and pulled out a chair so I could sit down.
