I'm a Supporting Role in a Horror Game, Don't Kill Me

CHAPTER 022

“Thank you for your effort. Thank you for attending.”

“Yes? Ah yes… good bye.”

Unlike my mouth saying bye, my body was glued to the chair. But even though I hesitated for a while, I couldn’t say anything and got up. I couldn’t ask, ‘It looks like my employer has a case file. Can I have a look at it?’ Moreover, there was a police officer following me around inside the police station, so contrary to my expectations, I couldn’t move around as freely. I already know where to get the items within the police station, but I have no choice but to postpone it until another opportunity.

‘Still, I’m glad I got one.’

I had no choice but to put my regrets behind me and leave the police station with only minor achievements. When I came out and opened the item window, I saw a shiny silver whistle drawn in the newly created item slot next to the six-shot revolver.

[Whistle: When using it, you can receive help if there is an officer within a 30-meter radius.]

It’s not that great of an item, but it’s still much more reassuring than not having it at all.

“What is it that…” We shouldn’t expect assistance from the police when we come across the Creature, given the way the police officer handled the spider story like it was a dream.

There were distinct locations in the game where monsters may be found. Dungeons and blood-red woodlands encircled this “park.” You needed to visit the temple beforehand in order to get a unique weapon that could be used against races other than humans before embarking on a wildlife hunt. There’s no way I could handle them even if I had that. Nevertheless, I was very certain of the way to get supplies that would shield my body. Another secure location was the temple. It may be possible for you to test unknown substances.

But it seemed like it would be too much to go there. Inside the police station, I didn’t even notice that my physical condition had worsened because I was so focused on other things, but after I left the police station, my body suddenly became heavier. I walked unsteadily and went to the fountain in front of the police station where a lot of pigeons were sitting, and sat down.

“Ah, see you again.”

When I turned my head to the person speaking next to me, the police inspector sitting at the fountain first caught my eye.

‘I didn’t even know who was sitting there.’

I assumed that my illness was actually quite bad. The inspector gave me a very flamboyant greeting, removing his hat. Inspector Triver stuck out his hand, and I chuckled because I thought it was humorous.

I did owe you a lot the last time, though. I was able to gather evidence that I would have overlooked because of what you said. We’re also looking into other locations once more.

“It’s nothing.”

“I can’t give the Duke an official thank you because he stated he didn’t want to reveal this.”

I grinned clumsily, a cold perspiration trickling down my neck.

In any case, the next time you see or see something, please let us know. No, do let me know if the Duke has anything else to say. LOL.

“Sure.”

Inspector Triver must have completely believed that the duke and I were lovers, so he greeted me in a very polite manner and stood up. It was fortunate that there was progress in the investigation, but it was unclear how much information would be obtained.

‘If it seems like everything will be resolved through the police investigation, there will be no need for players in the game.’

The feeling of despair was not relieved. I took a deep breath and felt like my breath was hot, so I touched my forehead and heard the sound of pigeons flying into the sky all at once. And after some time, two feet stopped in front of me.

‘Who…?’

When I raised my head, I saw a familiar person standing there. A thin but tall man with curly silver hair.

Lambiel McRae.

“This… See you again.”

“Hello.”

Lambiel was also the duke’s precious son, so I didn’t know why he’s standing on the street like this without an attendant.

“Can we have a chat?”

My head throbbed, but I nodded.

‘I don’t want to see any more victims… Because this person is scheduled to become a victim… I want to do more when we can talk more.’

At my acceptance, narrow cat-like eyes smiled softly.

“Arbice Green. Did I remember the name correctly?”

She was only the daughter of a poor baron who works as a tutor, but was this a name that the Duke’s friend would remember after seeing her once? I still didn’t know how he got interested in me, so I nodded at him in a daze.

“Do you mind if I sit next to you for a moment?”

“Ah yes.”

If he’s a planned victim, at least he has the advantage of being trustworthy. We could also exchange information there. I nodded without difficulty.

“It’s an honor, Mr. McRae.”

[Lambiel McRae’s favorability has increased

Lv.1(40/198)]

Didn’t this person’s favorability rise too easily? I laughed softly, but Lambiel quickly opened his mouth.

“I thought you were talking to the inspector earlier… Do you know anything about the recent Catherine Hunt incident?”

“Yes?”

“I saw something.”

His eyes are strangely sparkling a little… Maybe it’s my mistake that it feels awkward? Because he was the one who would become the victim. Because he was someone you could absolutely trust. I scratched my cheek and shook my head.

“It’s not like that.”

“But the inspector greeted me that way.”

“No way… You just did it.”

“Hmm.”

With a grin and a roll of his eyes, Lambiel seemed to think my response was hilarious. Lambiel smiled and carried on talking long after that exchange. Although our initial conversation seemed a little awkward, I enjoyed talking to him because of his eloquence. Sitting by the fountain allowed us to have a lengthy conversation. I was able to listen to Lambiel in an unbiased manner because he spoke more than I had anticipated. There was a rumor that Lambiel and Luke were related to each other’s families and that they were close, almost like brothers. They were also said to have known each other for a considerable amount of time. They were inevitably competitive with each other, so Luke growled when they saw each other, but in reality, they were good friends. There was so much Luke-related content mixed into Lambiel’s story that it felt like I was listening to Luke’s story.

I hesitated for a while while listening to his story, and then suddenly opened my mouth.

“Mr. Lambiel, do you know that story?”

“Hmm…? Which?”

“The story is that there is a threat letter going around with a raven on it.”

I relayed the identical story to Catherine Hunt, and she told me she had to rush back and turn away. That threat must have reached her. Lambiel shook his head as if this was the first time, which made me question if he would be in the same predicament. Well, he hasn’t experienced anything similar yet. Threats could come in a death-oriented sequence.

“Well, I’m happy that… What’s going on in your immediate surroundings?

“What sort of work?”

“A thing… No, it’s just that there are a lot of unpleasant events happening these days.

With a dismissive shake of his head, Lambiel seemed unconcerned.
“If that’s the case, you don’t have to worry at all, right? I also have an escort.”

“…Ah, yes, but… There’s nothing wrong with worrying. Mr. Lambiel is a close friend of our Duke.”

In the strange pause before the answer came back, I turned my head towards Lambiel, and found Lambiel looking at me with an amused grin. Was it my imagination that his smile, momentarily reflected in the sunset, looked somewhat creepy?

“…why? Do you have anything in mind?”

He chuckled.

“No, I don’t remember anything… I wondered why Luke was so obsessed with Miss Green, but the more I looked at her, the more I thought she was a fun person.”

“…yes?”

“By any chance, you’re in an official relationship with Luke or something?”

At Lambiel’s words, I hastily shook my head. What did I have to do with a murderer? Such horrible words were not even a joke.

“Never. Absolutely not.”

He smiled broadly, making an arc with his lips as if he liked my answer.

“Then that means I still have a chance.”

“…yes?”

“Is it okay if I ask you out on a date?”

“…A date?”

I didn’t have any peace of mind to do that.

‘Do you know how much work there is to do every day? It looks like even ten bodies are missing.’

And to begin with, I wasn’t interested in things like dating. But before I could say no, Lambiel whispered softly.

“They don’t say it’s good right away. This again… It’s a rare story.”

I looked at him in shock.

‘Luke is like that, and Lambiel is like that too. Are there only guys in this game who think they’re so good? What is that reaction that says it is absurd to be rejected?’

“…sorry.”

“No, I’m sorry.”

[Lambiel McRae’s favorability has increased.

Lv.2(10/297)]

I thought he would be angry or disappointed this time. He was truly an incomprehensible person. At that time, a large drop of water suddenly fell from the sky next to me. Lambiel handed me the large black umbrella that was in his hand.

“Ah… Is it okay if you give it to me?”

“Sure.”

“…but.”

“I mean, make sure to ask me out on a date next time.”

‘It’s more burdensome.’

While I was hesitating, Lambiel smiled brightly, opened the umbrella, and placed it in my hand.

Shoot-.

In an instant, his whispers were heard through the heavy rain.

“Please, return safely. To Rearmond Manor.”

It must have been my mistake that those gentle words of concern felt gloomy somewhere. When I blinked and opened my eyes, Lambiel was already running in the rain to the other side of the street. I stood up shakily, looking at his wet silver hair.
