I'm a Supporting Role in a Horror Game, Don't Kill Me

CHAPTER 019

“…What did you say just now?”

Luke shrugged his eyebrows.

“I don’t think that if you ask if you are a criminal, the criminal will say, ‘I am a criminal.’ There are so many exceptional aspects to the amount of greenery.”

“…It’s amazing.”

‘Was he kidding me? Was he thinking about it? No, how nerve-racking and shameless do you have to be to say something like that?’

He took a quick look at my genuinely dumbfounded face and laughed.

“I’ll take the answer as I heard.”

As time goes on, I had no idea what he’s thinking, not even the grime on his fingernails.

“I guess I’ll just take the answer I heard… Is that even a question?”

“Instead, I’ll pretend I didn’t know you stole my gun, so why don’t you just move on?”

‘…this.’

I didn’t think he would know forever, but I didn’t expect him to find out this quickly.

‘All guns look similar, how on earth do you know?’

It’s so fast that it’s really unnecessary to notice anything. My cheeks got hot because I was embarrassed by this situation.

‘I thought I was a petty thief.’

I glanced at the silver revolver left on the sofa. A gun that was picked up and pointed at Luke twice in one night. I remembered what Hunt said before when the Lakers handed me the gun back.

‘Put this back safely. It’s good to have at least one self-defense device.’

It’s even weirder because I thought he gave me the gun back even though he knew that. He could have taken the gun away from me if he thought it was his, but he just gave it to me. To anyone, it would seem like a favor to help them protect themselves even just a little bit in such a bloody and scary space.

‘I’ve thought this over and over again, but trying to understand the thoughts of a psychopathic killer is impossible.’

I picked some ice in the glass and bit it on my left cheek. The cold sensation of ice freezing the inside of my cheeks helped me come to my senses a little.

‘Come to your senses, don’t be fooled by a handsome psychopath pretending to be nice to you.’

Anyway, we decided to exchange questions one by one. While I was choosing a new question, Lakers, who didn’t seem to know what a truth game was, were sipping on their own and refilling their empty glasses. I spoke to him with a cold face.

“Then it’s my turn.”

“Yes.”

“That monster I met earlier… I mean, a spider-shaped creature. Why… Why does such a scary being exist? In the city center… And how did you do it? Swipe it in one go…”

Luke shrugged his shoulders as if he was in trouble, went silent for a moment as if he was lost in thought, and then spoke.

“You have two questions. Why such creatures are created is a secret, and as for the question of how they become so good at killing them, let’s just say that doing the same thing too many times makes you good at it. Is this enough?”

‘He had done the same thing too many times… Does he mean killing them?’

A chill ran down my spine, and I closed my mouth without realizing it.

‘This question may have been absolutely disgusting.’

“If you have trouble answering, why don’t you drink?”

I shook my head as he smiled while saying that.

“This answer is enough. Do you have any more questions?”

“Sure.”

“…What is it?”

Luke asked as if he were truly curious, with their mysterious silver eyes sparkling.

“So in the end, why did Hunt go in front?”

That was actually a question I wanted to ask him.

‘It’s just a question whose position keeps changing. What is he thinking?’

I narrowed my eyes and glared at him, wondering if he was joking, but suddenly I heard the officers yelling through the silence.

“It’s a murder case! Hey, who blocked the road like this! Get out of the way! It’s a murder case!”

“It’s a murder case! Get out of the way!”

I just froze. While I was watching Luke with his calm and weak faces, I seemed to have expected in my heart, ‘Maybe that might not have happened’ without realizing it.

‘The police discovered Catherine Hunt’s body. Just like the original…’

I felt like I was doused with ice water. I stiffened and muttered.

“Oh, I… Please excuse me because I have urgent business to attend to.”

“At a time like this?”

“Yes.”

“But…”

It seemed like Luke was saying something more to my back, but I passed him by without saying anything more and left the living room. Then, I frantically ran down the stairs and passed the front door. Before I knew it, the rain had stopped. The dark clouds filled the sky to an eerie level, and the poorly lit carriage road was dark. When I went out, I saw all the family members standing in a huddle on the side of the road. The officers’ voices were so loud, and it was probably because they were all on edge about the recent murder case. Among them was Amber. As I approached her, she looked back at me with tears in her eyes.

“Arbice, how nice!”

I looked at her dumbfounded, not knowing what to make of her face. Knowing what was going on, she asked.

“…What happened?”

“I guess Catherine Hunt has suffered a misfortune, I don’t know.”

The words spoken in a trembling voice hit me like a blunt weapon. That’s exactly what happened. I guess so. All the characters I’ve seen so far are here, and the events I’ve seen have happened one after another against the background of the buildings I’ve seen. How has this not changed?

The shadow of a tall man standing in the pouring rain in front of Hunt’s mansion kept flashing in my eyes. Along with that, there was also the appearance of a creature with a strange shape that was difficult to describe.

I only heard a few words, but it was a much more devastating feeling than when I first entered the game and witnessed someone’s death.

When the player was notified of Catherine’s case, all she had to do was look up her letter from the detective’s office.

I had never talked to her like this before. I wanted to just sit there and cry. I clearly remembered the face of a woman with red hair and a beautiful smile.

The Hunt Mansion, which I visited a few hours ago, was surrounded by a lot of people in that short period of time. It was the same as the last incident scene.

But this time I didn’t hang myself. I died from a fall. The fallen body fell into the garden near the carriage, landing exactly on top of several huge marble stones, showing a great contrast between the white floor and the red blood.

What was even more strange was that her body was as desiccated as she had been on Day 1, like a mummy that had been dried for a very long time. There was a pool of blood around the desiccated corpse.

There were stern-looking police officers standing guard around the body, which was covered with a white cloth, and it looked like Hunt was conducting a simple survey of the people. I already knew what condition the cloth-covered corpse was in. There was a knife stuck in his back. And everyone would testify that no one went into Catherine’s room.

“Oh, they say it’s the same culprit this time?”

“I don’t know. Didn’t you say that the last criminal was caught?”

“No. You haven’t caught it yet? The newspaper delivery man is definitely the culprit.”

“But I heard no one entered the room this time.”

“That’s what ghosts cry about.”

As I stood there while people were talking, my head started to hurt. At that time, a pitch black carriage came through the crowd of people. It was a carriage with very large wheels and no decoration. Two police officers guided people to get out of the way, and I also took a step back and looked at the carriage passing in front of me.

“Get out of the way, out of the way!”

‘Ah.’

At that moment, I remembered what that carriage was. I saw it so often in the game that it didn’t really impress me, but it was a carriage transporting corpses. I felt like I was coming to my senses.

No, were they really going to move the body right now?

No. The evidence left on the body will disappear, and if it rains, the evidence left here in the garden will be over.

In fact, we live in an era where there is no such thing as scientific investigation. Would you like to do a luminol reaction test or fingerprints? It wouldn’t take long to gather circumstantial evidence. There was an event called ‘Autopsy’ where you can look at the memories of a deceased character, but since it is an event that only opens after a long time, it was as if it did not exist at this point.

I quickly rolled my eyes and looked for Inspector Triver. At that moment, not far away, I saw a Santa-like man with a bright red nose staring at the scene with his back to me. I didn’t like attracting too much attention, but I couldn’t stand to see Cather Hunt’s death pass in vain like this.

“Hello, Inspector!”

When I approached him first, he nodded as if he remembered my face.

“Ah, you are the young lady. Did you deliver the notebook safely?”

“…sure!”

The inspector narrowed his eyes and leaned slightly towards me. My heart was pounding, wondering if he was doubting me, but he whispered in a low voice.

“I had no idea you two were so close. I will keep what I saw a secret from others.”

I was shocked to see him wrinkling his nose and giving me signals as if he knew everything. Seeing that he was out in the rain in a dark alley with Luke, it was clear that whatever misunderstanding he had, he had made up his mind. It wasn’t a secret affair or anything like that! My face turned bright red and I threw up my hand.

“That’s not important right now.”

“Hmm?”

“Where Catherine Hunt’s body lies… I wanted you to take a closer look.”

The inspector raised his eyebrows in displeasure when I, a mere ordinary person, pretended to interfere with the investigation, and then grunted and asked.

“Is this what the Duke asked you to do?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

Why did it not work if I told a lie? I tried to steady my stuttering voice and nodded at him.
