I'm a Supporting Role in a Horror Game, Don't Kill Me

CHAPTER 017

I lifted up my limp upper body in the steamy bathroom. Belatedly, I remembered again the reason why I went to that dark alley in the rain.

‘So what happened to Catherine Hunt?’

When I ran into Luke on the field, I ended up being unable to do anything. I brought a gun, but I couldn’t even use it.

‘I want to know what happened… I don’t even want to know…’

When I scooped up the warm water with both hands and looked at it, a very faint emerald color was reflected and shimmering. I knew it wasn’t the right time for that, but as I pumped water over and over to wash my face, tears started flowing without me even realizing it. With a sigh, I buried my face in my hands. No matter what reason causes tears, tears find another reason deep inside.

‘How long do I have to live in this horror game…?’

A feeling of indescribable frustration and despair. But I couldn’t just cry forever.

‘If what I heard was really Luke coming back, I need to meet him now.’

I quickly took a bath, came out, and changed into a dress. Then I stood close to the window and looked toward the stable.

‘So.’

The rain was still pouring down so visibility wasn’t that clear, but just by looking at the adult shadows, it looked like the horse Luke had ridden had returned.

‘I didn’t hear wrong.’

I took out the case notebook and looked through the information just in case, but the fate of ‘Arbice Green’ had not changed yet. The death was not planned suddenly, and the residence did not change. I caught my breath as I looked out the window at the rain.

‘First, let’s go visit Luke.’

If I didn’t attack him first, he would always try to interrogate me. Why did I go there and why did I have a gun? I was able to remain in this mansion for a long time, became a little closer to the employees, and even had my salary adjusted. Because now I don’t want to be kicked out or killed. An explanation was essential to maintain a stable current situation.

‘And now, Luke won’t kill me right away.’

If he was going to kill me right away, there was a better place to kill me. I didn’t know why he’s keeping me alive, but I thought I could get some information out of him without offending him. Some things I couldn’t help but wonder about.

‘What kind of work is he talking about, what is that spider, and why are the Lakers not at all surprised by that? …Things like that.’

And above all,

‘I don’t even know why he was there…’

As I was about to leave the room, I hesitated for a moment and then grabbed my gun. Now I was no longer confident that I could make good use of the item just because I have it, but I think it’s more reassuring than not having it. I put the gun in the empty pocket at the waistline of my dress and left the room. However, although the decision was quick, the steps to Luke’s room were very slow.

‘In theory, I know he won’t kill me right away, but what can I do when I’m scared to death?’

I crossed the hallway at very slow steps. When I arrived next to Luke’s door, I suddenly saw a large tapestry-shaped clock and thought, oh no.

‘It’s past 1 o’clock in the morning. It’s too late.’

I hesitated for a moment, but decided to go back without much effort.

‘First, go to your room and rest… Let’s think about it tomorrow.’

The moment I made that promise and took a step back.

Chang-! Clink!

A loud sound like something breaking or collapsing was heard from inside the room.

“…ha. Hmm…”

I could also hear something like a gasping moan somewhere. Come to think of it, Luke’s visit was a little more open than usual. It must have been a sound heard through the crack in the door.

‘Did he get hurt somewhere?’

No, it couldn’t be. His absolute strength was truly impressive. It looked like a skilled player who had defeated the same monsters over and over again, and a player who could easily attempt the so-called ‘Super King’, which means seeing the boss all at once after turning on the game. The moment I denied the words that came to mind and looked through the gap in the door, I saw the Lakers’ seal fall to the floor with a loud crashing sound.

‘What, did he collapse now?’

The hesitation was brief. When I opened the door, I saw a really long body lying on the floor. The Lakers were lying on the floor rug, not even on the sofa. It looked like he had fainted. Should I be concerned about the killer’s health? But before I knew it, the words came out first.

“Duke, Duke! Are you okay?”

There was no answer. As I was getting up to call someone, I paused for a moment. For a brief moment, a temptation was whispered. It’s tempting to think that if we leave him sick like this, we might be able to prevent future murders. At that moment, when I raised my hand to check his breathing, I felt damp clothes. Looking back, he gave me something.

‘Did he take off the coat he was wearing? Is that why he was so wet?’

A selfless murderer… I didn’t understand his actions.

‘If I just leave it like this?’

I barely managed to shake off the thoughts that came to me, perhaps as evil as the murderer, and got up to call someone. The moment I took a step towards the door, a chill hit me. As I turned around without realizing it, something that had been thrown towards where I was just a moment ago passed right by my cheek.

Wedge!

‘What did you just see? Fist? Was it a fist? I think I saw something like black scales.’

Looking back, I was frozen. What I turned to face was Luke standing staggeringly.

‘No, is it Luke?’

There were black scales sticking out on his face, and big shark scale-like things sticking out here and there on his hands. Moreover, his eyes were wide open, and instead of the calm and beautiful silver eyes he always saw, there were dark-black eyes that looked like they had eaten food. Even though we were facing each other so closely, the emptiness in those eyes seemed to be looking nowhere.

“…what the hell is this?”

Without answering, he suddenly stretched out his hand and pushed my body against the wall. My back, which had been roughly thrown against a bookshelf, hurt terribly.

“…Kut.”

For a moment, I felt something like the shell of a crustacean on his left arm as he grabbed it to push me away, but I soon forgot about it as his black eyes found me. A chill of fear ran down my spine.

‘Damn, I wasn’t coming to his room.’

For some reason, he let me live in front of Caterine Hunt’s house, but I didn’t know he was going to kill me here. I didn’t know if someone would come if I screamed for help, but I would die before then.

‘What do we do?’

With the adrenaline rushing through her body, she didn’t know how the thought came to her.

‘It would be nice if I was holding a gun right now.’

As soon as she thought that, an item window opened in front of her.

[Item: 6-shot pistol. 6 exclusive bullets. You can look up how to use it.]

When I stretched out my hand to the gun shape that appeared next to the description, I immediately felt a cold touch. That was so nice and annoying at the same time.

‘You can put items in your inventory and carry them around. Please let me know about this in advance.’

As soon as I adjusted the handle of the revolver, I unlocked it and held it out to him. I was able to pull off that action much more quickly than I thought. Just in time, Luke grabbed my neck. With a strong grip that felt like it would break his neck at any moment, I raised the gun to his temple and shouted softly.

“If you don’t want to get hurt, back off, Luke. Even if I die, I will blow a hole in your head.”

I honestly didn’t know if he understood. But there was no doubt that his spirit, which had been acting as if he was going to kill me at any moment, had waned. His hand around my neck loosened slightly. Moreover, it seemed as if the black film in his previously black eyes was slightly lifted.

‘Now, it seems like your eyes have returned a little bit?’

But he still held my neck and didn’t seem to have completely come to his senses.

‘What should I do? I can’t just kill him like this when I haven’t secured all the evidence.’

If I did that, it would definitely lead to a terrible ending where I would end up in prison. I raised my trembling left hand and hit him hard on the cheek.

Match!

His head turned halfway along with the sound. His movement stopped. One cheek of his handsome face turned bright red. After a moment of silence, I was paying close attention to what will happen.

[Luke’s favorability has increased.

Lv.2(170/297)]

A system message appeared with a small beeping sound. Now? At this moment?

‘Hey, they held a gun to your head and slapped you?’

“Ha…”

With a quiet sigh, he stumbled. Then he shook his head gently from side to side, like a wet dog, and ran his large hand over his face again and again, blinking his eyes continuously. I was watching him do it, his hand holding the gun shaking. What suddenly caught my eye was his arms and hands, which, unlike before, were very clean. I thought it looked black. I guess it looked that way because I was really crazy.

“This… I would have died if you had fiddled.”

That’s what he said while smiling and in a languid, pleasant voice. Was it okay to say such a thing? Or was he saying to kill me from now on? Luke seemed to have calmed down a bit, straightened his back and looked at me. It was a completely different look from the crazy look he had shown earlier. It was the captivating gray eyes that Arbice was familiar with. He very slowly ran his hand through his disheveled hair. He was really handsome. The face is white and sad, and the lips are bleeding, making it look sensual. Even in the midst of this very urgent situation, I was unconsciously watching, but when I realized that his eyes were looking down at me, I stiffened. He, who was standing just a breath away from me, took a step back and grabbed my hand, trying to pull the gun out of his hand.

“What are you doing?”

“It’s okay now. I was rude, but it won’t happen again for a while.”

‘I would be an idiot if I believed that.’

As I was just glaring at him, Luke smiled and gently grabbed my hand.

“This… It would be better to forget it.”

He grinned and opened his mouth with a somewhat tired look on his face.

[Memory erased.]

It was a strange statement, as if I heard it directly in my head rather than my ears. At that moment, messages appeared one after another in the notification window at the bottom left, where messages such as likeability usually appear.

To be honest, I didn’t expect such a story when I started reading this novel. It is so much fun! I like the flow. It seems that the characters are not shallow and that everything has a reason.
