I'm a Supporting Role in a Horror Game, Don't Kill Me

CHAPTER 016

“I don’t like rainy days, but there is a lot of work to do.”

At that moment, I heard an elegant but annoying tone that was not suitable for this situation.

‘Oh, I’m scared…’

I somehow managed to open my eyes again, controlling my trembling body at the strangely calm tone.

“Kyaaak!”

When it moved in front of me, Luke’s back was visible between the bizarre creature and me.

‘Strange… A monster and a murderer are just in front of me, but seeing this person’s back makes me feel a little reassured…’

As the creature took a step towards us, the grotesque shape became more visible. Eight black eyes the size of fists glinting in the light of a gas lamp, eight strangely thin and long legs, and a human face and upper body whose gender is difficult to determine attached as if transplanted where the face should be. The spider-like creature seemed to be targeting the Lakers and me, with its mouth wide open at us. In a way that humans could never do, the face was gigantic and wide open, as if it had been split in half and opened up and down. The sight of dripping saliva from there was truly terrifying. A creature with a bizarre shape is a staple in horror games.

‘There were definitely creatures in <Night of the Murderers>, but I never thought I would see them myself.’

The sensation of seeing it in front of my eyes was fear and shock that I couldn’t even imagine.

‘In modern times, at best, I’ve only had a safari experience!’

The moment I thought that the creature’s grotesque eyes were looking at me, I couldn’t control my beating heart and felt like I was going to faint at any moment. And in the next moment, the giant spider leaped away. It was incredibly fast for its massive size.

‘No!’

Almost at the same time as I was convinced I would die, a flash of light that did not match the darkness that filled the alley flashed in front of my eyes.

Patter. Thud. Thud.

The sound of something heavy falling to the floor. Something warm splashed on my body, a feeling different from the very cold rain. Even though it happened right in front of my nose, I couldn’t figure out what had happened, so I blinked for a long time. Nothing happened to me and Luke. Rather, instead…

“Are you okay?”

With the question, Luke even looked back at me.

In his hand was a huge sword the size of a man, from whom I could not tell where it had come from. It looked more like a very black, shiny scale than a sword. And the next moment, Luke captured the sword as if it were in their hand. When I blinked and looked at him again, the sword was gone. Then, stepping aside, over his shoulder, I saw the corpse of a spider, split in half and convulsing on the floor.

‘…oh my god. Did you catch that in one shot?’

Games have unspoken rules that apply to any game. If you could feel the bizarre beauty even at a glance, if it was meticulously designed and even large in size, it meant that it was a very powerful monster. No matter how skilled you were, you couldn’t catch it in one shot.
Rather, if you couldn’t avoid the attack range on the floor, the so-called ‘floor’, or if you didn’t know the creature’s attack pattern, or if you’re not careful, the player’s side would be hit with one shot. However, Luke defeated the monster in the short time I closed and opened my eyes.

‘I didn’t even get out of breath.’

“…How the hell.”

As I trembled and mumbled, he clicked his tongue and took a step closer to me. Even in the pouring rain, it was easy to see that Luke’s silver eyes didn’t show a shred of tension or relief.

‘What the hell is this person?’

There was something about him that couldn’t be explained by just being a murderer. It was too cold, I didn’t understand how everything worked, and I was exposed to uncontrollable fear. I was so exhausted that I couldn’t even think anymore. In an instant, my legs broke tired and my body staggered. Instead of falling to the floor, my body was confined to a firm embrace.

‘Why is Luke… me…’

But even knowing that he was hugging me, I didn’t have the slightest energy left to reject it.

“Tsk.”

Luke wrapped me completely in his arms, clicked his tongue, and wrapped me in something warm, like a blanket. Even though it was raining, I felt my body getting warmer.

“You seem very surprised.”

And the gentle voice that followed made my mind tangled up in a mess. I couldn’t understand more and more. Protecting me from monsters and talking to me as if to soothe me. If there’s a problem with ‘Choose the correct action for the killer to do among the following’. All sorts of examples such as murder, violence, and injury would be the correct answer, but this wasn’t it.’ It’s strange to think that it’s because he didn’t want to lose his prey. He had so much free time to kill me.

‘Do I need someone to make an alibi for me?’

As I was thinking about everything, I saw a light approaching.

‘Who is it?’

When I turned around frowning in my eyes, the officers appeared with the heavy sound of boots. Standing in the midst of the officers in raincoats, Inspector Triver Ruak came up to us.

“Who is this?”

“You are patrolling even late at night. You are suffering a lot.”

‘It’s really heartwarming to see the inspector and the killer exchanging greetings.’

While contemplating it, Inspector Triver looked back and forth between me and the Duke and smiled shyly.

“I didn’t know you two were so close. To the point where they go on dates until it rains.”

Date…?

‘You say that even after seeing the corpse of the spider that just attacked us?’

Tired of the absurd sound, I looked around the floor, but there was nothing left on the floor of the narrow alley. The corpse of the eight-eyed, disgustingly grotesque spider disappeared without a trace.

‘…Now I really don’t know what’s what.’

Blinking slowly, Luke glanced up at the still raining sky and said.

“If possible, would you escort Miss Green home? She doesn’t seem to be feeling well.”

“Oh, then wouldn’t it be better to take her to the hospital?”

“No. Because it just seems like a surprise. I can’t go with her because I have urgent business, so please.”

“Heh heh, it’s not difficult, so what are you asking for?”

My new recruit was easily delivered to the officers just like that. In a corner of my blurred vision, I saw one of the officers encircle me and Luke soon walked away talking to the captain about something. When the tension was suddenly relieved, sleep came to a strange extent.

‘I came all the way to Catherine Hunt’s house… I have to do something…’

However, it was a night in which I experienced a series of fears of a kind I had never experienced before. The sudden encounter with Luke and the encounter with a huge creature were not things I could easily endure, and my mind quickly became helplessly distant. The last thing I remember was hearing the faint voices of Luke talking seriously with the Inspector. When I opened my eyes, I had arrived at the Duchy of Rearmond. I came to my senses after vaguely hearing the voice of the policeman carrying me on my back in front of the front door of the duke’s residence explaining the situation to Mrs. Blier.

“… How about Mrs. Catherine?”

The words that came out of my mouth first without even realizing it made Ms. Blier blink.

“Yes?”

“…no.”

“Oh my God, what a pity. How far did you go out on a rainy day like this?”

Mrs. Blier must have thought that I was talking nonsense in a fever. After clicking his tongue, he ordered the maids to bring bath water and asked the servant to carry me to the room on his back. When I took off my raincoat, I felt a chill that made my teeth crackle. Even while waiting for the warm water to be prepared wrapped in a warm blanket, even at the moment of soaking in the warm water, my head kept pounding. Even though it’s in the game, I never thought I’d meet it in person, and the horror of meeting that bizarre creature that had never appeared in the city was indescribable.

‘How many such creatures are there in this game? Am I just walking around the city like before?’

It would be an unthinkable idea to deal with such a bizarre creature with a pistol or something. I didn’t know how to deal with such a being again, and I didn’t know if I could run away.

‘In the original story, there was an event like a creature appearing only in the very second half. We met only when we went on a trip.’

It wasn’t something you’d suddenly encounter in a city like this. What’s even more strange was Luke, who wasn’t surprised at all when they met the creature. He even hunted the creature casually, as if it was a daily occurrence.

‘I don’t know a thing about Luke anymore.’

To be honest, I was more shocked that Luke protected me than the existence of the creatures.

‘I hate that I keep feeling grateful to the Lakers, and I hate that I relied on him even for a moment.’

Why the hell did he do that? If you look at the testimonies of the people around the criminal, they always say that the criminal was not that kind of person. It would just be like that.

‘It would be impossible to understand a psychopath or a murderer anyway… I don’t even have to understand.’

Even if he showed up at every meal and acted like a person who cared about the children, even if he talked to me at tea parties, even if he saved me from creatures. It wouldn’t mean much.

‘Therefore… It’s okay to just not give meaning to it. It’s okay to not think about anything.’

But even after taking a deep breath and soaking in warm water, I couldn’t shake the fear and questions that ran through my mind.

Clack.

Then, out of nowhere, I heard a faint sound like the sound of horses hooves.

‘Late night like this…? Is Luke back?’

I felt my heart beat quicker.
