Episode 4.3
He wants to hide it from his daughter, but he doesn’t know why he was hiding something she was going to find out anyway.
“What did one of the representatives said?”
“Nothing…….”
“Did she say that she was your daughter?”
“……You were!”
“Or did she say that she has her father’s blood running through her, so you should accept her as a member of the Group? Or did she say that she doesn’t even want you to be her father?”
“You knew that.”
“I am sorry, but I was the one who figured it out.”
“How did you?”
“I didn’t want her to marry my brother, so I did some background research.”
“Then you must have known, too. What a lapse and mistake this father made.”
My father’s eyes became cloudy as he recalled the past. It was probably at this moment that he remembered his past and how his illegitimate child, Han Seo Ri, was born.
Han Seo-ri’s biological mother is the sister of my father’s former secretary. She had been stalking my father, who was then a vice president, for his money and power, and was furious when she hears that he and my mother were engaged.
She asks her brother to bring my father to the house where her parents were not present, and Chairman Cha’s secretary invites him to the house using my father’s innocence, who has always treated him like a friend.
There, the two collude to drug my father to sleep with her.
That night, she finds herself unexpectedly pregnant.
When he wakes up, a naked woman lies next to him, while his secretary looks on at him in shock.
My father tried to break off his engagement to my mother, saying he would take responsibility for everything, but Cha’s grandfather, who was the chairman of the company at the time, raged against it.
He insisted that his son should take responsibility and began to
investigate the woman he had brought along.
Han Seo-ri’s biological mother was a convicted fraudster. Their collusion was quickly exposed when her father’s secretary foolishly used a corporate card to order medication for his sister in my father’s watch.
Fearing that the story would go to the press, Grandpa used his money, power, and everything else he had to lead the two siblings down a path of destruction.
When my grand father learned about this secretary’s sister’s pregnancy, the secretary broke the news to their grandfather himself and appealed to him for leniency.
His offer to them at that time was two fold.
“First, if you took the child and leave, I will give you money to live and play abroad for the rest of your life. But you can’t come back to Korea.”
“Second, if you can leave the child behind but know that you will not be able to get a single cent and that they will never escape his grasp in this country.”
They chose the former, and the mother who gave birth to Han Seo-ri was fed up and left her at the orphanage.
My grandfather covered it all up by giving the orphanage a hefty donation, claiming that the child will be happier there.
For the sake of the Jecheon Group’s image.
“I saw him in her eyes…”
My father’s eyes lit up. I looked at him puzzled and asked.
“Why? What did she say?”
“She asked me to accept her as a member of the Jecheon Group.”
“She didn’t mean that you should think about being her father?”
“Ha! You should have seen the greed in her eyes, the way she shouted that she needed money and power to fuel her evil needs, that she was my blood and she had a right to it.”
Ah.
I realized today why this scene was changed.
How the father in the original, who felt vaguely guilty for Han Seo-ri and tried to do anything for her, has changed.
And why did the original Han Seo-ri, who hated the blood that made her brother and sister with her beloved Cha Yebin, refuse to accept anything from her father?
‘It was because of me.’
She was the reason for the change that occurred with the greatest perversion in the Flower of Trials.
I walked over to my father, who was probably reminiscing, and pulled him close, burying my head in his wide arms.
“Ye Ryun, are you hugging your dad to cheer me up?”
“It’s okay, it is not your fault.”
Even if Han Seo Ri was your biological child, how could it be your fault?
I didn’t realize that the gentle father was suffering to the point of losing his mind.
The drama only mentioned it lightly and moved on.
While the drama glosses over his anguish and pain in less than five minutes, he has been suffering here all along.
The memories of that day, the scars it left behind, the shock of not knowing that she existed, and then finally finding out. All of that must have been painful for him.
How could this damn drama make light of it, and how could Han Seo-ri be loved by her father in the end.
My actions changed him.
By stirring up her father’s guilt, she should have become a member of the Jecheon Group and gotten his active support, but instead, she provoked his anger.
“Dad, what do you think you were going to do with her?”
“Money and power? that is ridiculous. She’s just like her mother, and she’s just as shallow. She doesn’t belong in our group, nor is she needed here.”
My father’s eyes glowed sharply. Looking up from his embrace, I shook my head and pulled away from him.
“No.”
“Ye Ryun.”
“As long as Dad’s blood runs through her, she won’t leave us
alone, and I don’t know what she will do to us now that she is corrupted.”
“It doesn’t matter what she does.”
“You could get hurt, you know?”
My father’s face hardened in surprise. Maybe he didn’t know I knew. Maybe he wanted to keep it from me until the end.
