Episode 2.1
“Miss. Ye Ryun. Can I come in?”
It had been a long time since he was kicked out by me, and he had already returned to my office. I looked at Park Eun-woo with a subtle feeling as he closed the door with a clear smile.
The way Park Eun-woo treated Han Seo-ri just now, seems like Something must have gone wrong. Thinking about it, Park Eun-woo’s attitude towards me had also changed.
However, Park Eun-woo warned Han Seo-ri about Cha Ye Ryun’s evil deeds and solved the problem. He always had a crush on Han-seo-ri and was her best friend.
This was an absolute imperative that should never change in a drama, and Park Eun Woo never broke it.
Even though his attitude towards his fiancé Cha Ye-ryun has become a bit kinder, the drama hasn’t sanctioned him because he’s still in love with and devoted to Han Seo-ri.
So I was feeling safe, but today, this absolute statement about Park Eun Woo’s treatment of Han Seo Ri was subtly shaken.
There’s no way Park Eun-woo would actively help Han Seo Ri get married because he’s in love with her.
His help is always limited to stopping Cha ye ryun from bullying her or lending a hand when she’s struggling with what happened because of Cha.
So Park Eun-woo’s lines has always been those that emphasizes his support and that he’s behind her, like,
“I can’t see you suffering, come to me because I’m confident that I won’t make you suffer.”
Today’s line was supposed to be like that. But what’s with the way he’s pushing her away, and what’s with his attitude? Where did it go wrong?
“I thought you liked Han Seo-ri, Park Eun-woo.”
I couldn’t help but be sarcastic. I was confused because the drama was trying to go in a different direction than I have intended.
Maybe I should have corrected Park Eun Woo’s character when I noticed that he was trying to act like a fiancé when he became very kind to Cha Ye Ryun.
The original relationship between Cha Ye-ryun and Park Eun-woo was one that of mutual criticism and sarcasm.
I shouldn’t have let him get away with him saying that he was excited to see me with that handsome face, but I let my guard down and became complacent.
“Of course I like you, because I’m Miss. Ye’s fiancé, of course.”
“I don’t know when Mr. Park became so diligent about this kind of formal engagement, but it has to stop.”
I gently ran my fingers across my brow, which was furrowing in pain. I tried to act nonchalant, though I felt a twinge of guilt at the way Park’s expression hardened at my words.
“Business engagements are not uncommon, just like it’s not uncommon for my brother to make such a fuss about marrying Han Seo-ri.”
“But Ye-ryun.”
“I just want a formal relationship with Mr. Park, nothing more, nothing less.”
I stole a line that Park Eun-woo would one day say to Cha Ye-ryun. It’s a line that Park Eun-woo will say to Cha when she
approaches him with the fiancé line.
The way things are going now, there’s no way Park Eun-woo would use that line, so I should use it.
After hearing my words, Park Eun-woo seemed to think about something for a moment. His eyes narrowed as if trying to gauge my intentions.
A lazy smile, the first I’d ever seen, tugged at the corners of his mouth. As he crossed his arms and snapped his fingers, a hint of amusement seemed to radiate from him.
” you are smiling? Why?”
I asked, feeling very puzzled by his amusement at my line. I blinked, wondering if I hadn’t seen it right, and he grinned like a sunbeam.
“No.”
With a refreshing rejection, he carefully took my hand and intertwined our fingers together.
I stiffened, embarrassed by Park Eun-woo’s sudden behavior.
“The way I treat Miss. Ye Ryun will never be formal.”
I could feel the strength in his clasped hands.
It was true that Park Eun-woo had been warming up to Cha Ye Ryun like a ray of sunshine lately, but originally, our relationship was just a formal engagement, nothing more, nothing less.
The man in front of me, smiling down at me, is not the original Park Eun-woo, nor is he the Park Eun-woo whose demeanor has changed recently. I felt like I was looking at a man I had never seen before.
“Are you really Mr. Park Eun-woo……?”
“So please call me Eun-woo from now on.”
He smiled kindly, flipped his hair over his ear, and took a step back from me.
The hand that had been clasped on mine fell away gently, leaving behind a wistfulness.
Maybe it was just my imagination, but Park’s demeanor seemed like he was trying to hold me back from pushing him away.
I felt like a red light was beeping insistently in my head.
“Something’s wrong.”
Park Eun Woo, who was supposed to be cold to Cha Ye Ryun, suddenly became kind, and the man who was supposed to be warm as sunshine to Han Seo Ri was coldly and firmly drawing the line at her.
I abandoned the arrogance of thinking that the drama was rolling in my favor. This is the flower of trials that I don’t know about. I had to admit it, even if I didn’t like it.
“Mr. Park Eun-woo. Are you interested in me?”
“Ypu are my fiancé, so of course.”
This man who was supposed to give unconditional love only to Han Seo-ri, this man who didn’t even look at Cha Ye-ryun, his fiancé, in the original drama.
It all went wrong when he showed his gentle smile that was only allowed for Han Seo-ri.
This was the flower of a trial that I didn’t recognize.
“I’m grateful for that.”
I have something to confirm.
I had to confirm that this man’s love still belonged to Han Seo-ri,
and I had to bring back Park Eun-woo’s hatred towards me.
That’s what Cha Ye-ryun had to do, and that’s what I had to do.
I calculated what I had to do. The progress chart in the secret room flashed in my head.
I had to keep his mind focused on Han Seo-ri as much as possible without affecting the progression of the drama.
For example, give him hope that he could have her.
The Flower of Trials will be pleased with my decision. She’ll love it even more if it makes the affection between two men with a frosty relationship even more fiery.
“Then, as my fiancé today, I want you to give me some time and go somewhere with me this evening.”
“What? Where to…….”
“Oh, you should invite Mr. Han Seo-ri too, we’re going to be a family, let’s get to know each other.”
Han Seo-ri, her brother’s lover, and Park Eun-woo, Cha Ye-ryun’s fiancé.
How did Cha Ye-ryun endure the miserable situation of her brother and fiancé loving the same woman, Han Seo-ri?
How could Han Seo-ri, who was never better than herself, be able to take away everything Cha Ye-ryeon had built for herself?
She knows Park Eun-woo’s heart, but she accepts all the help he gives her, and she doesn’t want to let go of him.
Cha Ye-ryun is an elite who has never been defeated in her life.
When I was preparing for the role, I was able to understand more than anyone else how she could be defeated by Han Seo-ri with only Cha Yebin and Park Eun-woo’s help, and how she came to hate her because of that defeat.
“Ms. Han Seo-ri as well as Mr. Park Eun-woo. I’d like you both to attend.”
Park Eun-woo, who didn’t know what I was planning, made a puzzled face but then nodded.
I am Cha Ye-ryun, but I am not Cha Ye-ryun. I can’t be miserable in this fake world, and will be hated harder than anyone else today.
I will give the protagonists of this drama a sense of victory and
accept their hatred. Then I will leave this damn fake world without regret.
Even if at the end of the story, I can’t return to reality and must live as a secondary character. If I can only escape this damn obligation, I will be able to leave.
I will leave to a place where no one would force me, where no one would harass me.
* * *
The restaurant, located in one of South Korea’s tallest skyscrapers, is famous for its private atmosphere and well-dressed clientele.
The restaurant is rented out to the public, and the tables that are always full are empty except for one table where an ethereal atmosphere pervades.
Only the clinking of silverware echoed through the stark silence.
Han Seo-ri fiddled with her fork, as her eyes were darting anxiously.
Next to her, was Cha Ye-ryun who was staring at Cha Ye-bin, while keeping her guard up.
Cha was happy to be alone in the silence, while he was slicing and eating steak.
Park Eun Woo quietly places a glass of water next to Cha Ye Ryun.
In the delicate combination of the four, Cha Ye-ryun was the only one who remained silent.
“So, Cha Ye-ryun. Why did you call us here?”
It was Cha Yebin who broke the silence and spoke first. His obvious wariness was comical. Regardless of what he said, I chewed and swallowed leisurely, savoring the meat as it melted in my mouth.
I could see his patience slowly wearing thin at my seeming disregard for his words, and his clear eyes widened and then narrowed as if trying to calm himself.
“I don’t remember calling for you, so why are you here?”
“You wouldn’t just call Ms. Han all alone without a reason, so what are you up to?”
“Don’t feel bad. You’re the one who told me to get along well with her since she is going to be my sister-in-law. Why are you making such a big deal about it?
I’m intrigued by the plot and I like this main character, but the writing is a bit repetitive. The author is making fun of campy soap operas but is simultaneously writing in circles…
